Your saddest "Failure is the Only Option" moment?

*This is not a "sadistic choice" question, but rather it is a scenario where you just can't win, and you know it.

As The Walking Dead is so quick to remind us, every decision you make comes with consequences. Sometimes good, often not, and all of it comes full circle sooner or later. Sometimes though, no matter how hard you try, failure is the only option. What is your saddest "Failure is the Only Option" moment from The Walking Dead

Mine is from Episode 4, just before the end. When Clem asked if they could try to look for her parents again before leaving on the boat, that was the first time I EVER considered lying to her, because at the time I actually did want to at least find the bodies (harsher in hindsight, I know). If you do lie (I chose "there might not be time" instead), she sees right through it.

Regardless of the choice made, Clementine still breaks down crying. I felt like the biggest piece of shit, despite knowing there was no way around it. We all know what came next...

  • Convincing Kenny to put down Duck, or doing it for him. I actually replayed to see if I could get a different result from Kenny, but no, he still kicks himself around for it in the mansion.

  • Lee getting bit. It gets HARDER to pick up the damn radio second tome around, you know if he doesn't pick it up he won't get bit.

  • There's just no right answer in that moment.

  • And moving the wood/object/thing out of the way first only changes the timing of Lee being bit.

  • Choosing whether to have Clementine shoot Lee or leave him to turn, either way is a no win scenario

Asking to see Mark condition,I knew something was wrong when that fat cow doesn't let me see him. It's very tragic to see him like that, and seeing him helping even after his death is really depressing.

  • When Christa walked off angrily to look for more wood, I thought "Wow, this is gonna be the last time I'm ever going to see her"

  • At least he got some kind of revenge.

  • Going to the St. Johns Dairy. Pretty much the entirety of episode 2 was "This is a terrible idea and there's nothing I can do about it."

  • Deciding whether to let the woman kill herself or not. There's no happy ending and Glenn chastises Lee no matter what choice he makes.

Picking up the gun in All That Remains.

Seriously, Telltale, that was really low and lazy... You could have written an alternate way for the things to happen, like Michelle somehow tricking the gun out of Clementine's hand if the player was clever enough to pick the gun up...

    Eugh... Poor Omid...

  • Trying to get up after falling down in Savannah. LEEEEEEEEEEEE NOOooooo

  • HEY! Don't blame Maybelle :(

  • It made sense to me, Clementine is a young kid, she just put the gun down for a second, and didn't think anything would happen. But we all know things do happen in the ZA, it was a tough lesson for Clementine to learn.

  • Telltale shoud have given us the choice to hide or try to grab the gun when Michelle entered.
