Character death opinions.

Now I figured this would be an interesting discussion on people's opinions of characters who have died in Season 1 and so far in Season 2 (including the detrimental ones). Quite a bit just had me shrugging it off and with some I was even like "Oh well" because there wasn't too much into the character in my eyes to make me care for them one way or the other but at least a couple made me upset and at least one made me cheer. I marked this as spoiler for those who haven't of course beaten Season 2 Episode 3 as well. Below is a list of character deaths and how I felt about them, feel free to share your own.

  • Shawn - A little upset, especially when I actually tried to save him and was like "What the heck? My choice meant nothing...."
  • Doug - Kind of 'meh' about him. Nice guy but even if I saved him I never really cared for him.
  • Carly - Shocked (when I chose to save her instead of Doug) as she and Lee seemed to be getting close and I was thinking: "Hey Lee's got a girlfriend..." However when I chose to save Doug the first time I just shrugged it off.
  • Larry - Well I chose to help Kenny...so...yeah that should be proof enough that I just didn't care for him.
  • Mark - While I didn't know him too much it was upsetting to see how he ended up going.
  • Brenda - I laughed when she got bitten even thinking: "Hah, that's what you get."
  • Charles "Chuck" - Another one I was just 'meh' about, in fact I was surprised he was even in the sewers and thus surprised he made it that far.
  • Ben - A little upset mainly cause I saved him and then he died anyway, another thing that made me feel my choice just didn't matter.
  • Lee - The whole game hoping he got to it in time in the last episode only to have him go anyway. However I didn't cry, I was just more angry that he died than anything else as it made me feel kind of ripped off.
  • Omid - Totally shocked, didn't expect that and was a little sad because he had sort of taken over in a position like Lee was by the sound of it, with teaching Clementine.
  • Sam - I cried a little, I don't know what it is but animal deaths always got me a little more than human deaths, guess I'm weird that way. I mostly felt sorry for it as it was obviously very starved and just wanted to eat.
  • Peter - For the most part shrugged it off, cause after Lee I figured he was doomed anyway.
  • Matthew - Of course I didn't know who he was at the time but then I pieced it together even before the picture was shown as Clementine seemed to be doing as well and was like. "Oh sh*t...."
  • Walter - A little sad, he seemed like such a nice guy only to be taken out like that.
  • Reggie - Another 'meh' as I only just met him and well...he seemed kind of whiny to me.
  • Alvin - Kind of felt sorry for this one too, cause he seemed decent enough but then again barely really knew him.
  • Carver - Well, I had Clementine watch cause I wanted to, I wanted to see what I felt he deserved and honestly clapped as I watched it and internally picturing Clementine as a cheerleader cheering Kenny on.

So yeah...sorry for any spoilers.

Both of Ben's deaths were sad for me. :( I really sympathized for him.

The only deaths I can truly say affected me were Ben and Omid's death. Alvin's final moments were heroic, as well. It's tragic that he'll never get to see his daughter/son.

    Edit: Also Katjaa's.

  • The one that affected me was DEFINITELY Lee's death, I pretty much bawled for 15 minutes. I cried a little at Kenny's "death", and Ben's death. I teared up when Omid died. I felt bad when Walter, Pete, Katjaa, Duck, Carley, and Alvin died. I don't know, maybe I'm over emotional. I just thought some of the deaths were sad.

  • Carley and Omid's death are the only one in the whole series so far i didn't see coming. But the only one i really felt bad for was Lee. The other deaths just seemed like a natural progression of the story to me.

    • Shawn - I was confused how the walkers were able to sneak up on him. I was a little sad, since he was really friendly and he helped Clem and Lee out.
    • Doug - I didn't have that much of a reaction.
    • Carley - My jaw dropped. It was totally unexpected for me.
    • Larry - I felt kind of sick, and I felt bad for Lily.
    • Mark - I was pretty upset, he just didn't deserve that.
    • Brenda - Relieved, because that meant I could save Katjaa.
    • Charles "Chuck" - Very sad, I liked his character and I felt bad that none of the other characters really cared about what happened to him.
    • Ben - I teared up a little (He was impaled by the balcony rod on my play through). I don't care about the general opinion of his character, Ben was a realistic portrayal of how many teenagers would react in the apocalypse and he didn't deserve to die.
    • Lee - I was bawling.
    • Omid - Shock, and then a lot of sadness.
    • Sam - I teared up at his death scene.
    • Peter- I was pretty upset, I really liked him.
    • Matthew - Somewhat shocked.
    • Walter - Somewhat saddened.
    • Reggie - I didn't really feel much for him, my emotions were more directed at Carver.
    • Alvin - He died in episode 3 for me, and I think he had a pretty honorable death. I was a little sad.
    • Carver - Disappointed mostly, I thought his character was killed off too soon.
  • I hated Carlos' death.

Disregarding the fact that it was pretty much just for Sarah's character development or to create a problem with the baby delivery next episode, we didn't have any time to mourn for his character. After Pete died, we had time to mourn with Nick after finding his nearly mangled body. We had time to mourn for Alvin as he thought his child was going to be a girl. When Carlos died, I was expected to keep Sarah in check as well as pulling off all these QTE's.

    I wish it was different.

  • l hated Nick's death. "lets develop a character and then kill him off in the stupidest fucking way" It didn't leave any impact because no one mentions what haapens and Nick does fuckall in episode 3 if alive.

  • For me I was a little sad when alot of characters died in the group as even if I wasn't a fan of them, chances are they didn't deserve to die like they did and quite a few are leaving loved ones behind so that helps you sympathize with them. Even Larry who I hated. He was still human just doing his best to look after his daughter at the end of the day. Ofcourse for the likes of the Brenda and the St. Johns. It's hard to have sympathy for them.

The biggest shocks/upset for me was Carly and Omid. I really liked both of them and didn't expect either of their deaths.
Lee ofcourse was the only one I shed tears for though because it was so Emotional. And I really disliked Sam's death because as an animal lover, I really dislike animal deaths and I have a dog of my own. I would rather have not come across Sam so that could have been avoided altogether.

I also do agree about Carver being killed off too soon. He had to die ofcourse, but I did think he'd be around for another episode.

  • You are right, good sir Waluigi.

  • I see two people felt Carver was killed off too soon, I thought it was just right considering he was introduced pretty early as it was and with the in-game time that passed, it seemed to fit in my opinion. However I can see how it some consider it too early mostly due to lack of game play before he's killed. I mostly see it like the comics, many of the villains don't last that long as it is so I guess that's why it didn't bother me.

I forgot to mention in my above list with the obvious death of Carlos was a bit shocking since they seemed to be making it through the herd and he was protecting his daughter, everything seemed fine albeit a little suspenseful since Sarah was freaking out already.

I wonder who will be next though. I predict that Sarah and Sarita are next, as Sarah running off just reminds me of Sophie (from the show, not the comic) and what ended up happening to her.

  • Carley and Omid were the hardest. They pissed me off.

Lee's death didn't piss me off as i hated the whole episode. Including its ending.

Yeah, I mean couldn't Nick have just pushed the walker away from him?
