Does anyone know a good digital video recorder?

I'm looking to replace my KiSS DP-558 hard disk recorder/dvd-player* with something a bit more modern but I'm finding it hard to search the internet for the kind of device I want. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm looking for something with at least the following features:
  • Network/internet capability. Not-wireless is fine, as I've already got a cable there anyway.
  • EPG
  • Some easy way to transfer files to and from my pc. Streaming might be an acceptable alternative, if it's very good.
  • Plays various standard media file formats, including XviD
  • Timeshift
  • HDMI-out
I don't need the ability to record to dvd's, and while blu-ray would be nice if it doesn't bump the price too much I can do without. I'm looking for something fairly classical, but if you think a media pc or even some this-gen console is the best pick, I might try that. A remote is a must though and it'd better "just work".

*I've had a love-hate relationship with the thing, and while it has some distinct upsides I don't recommend it to anyone.

Personally I'd advise yo just build a Multimedia PC, add a TV tuner card, massive HD, remote, and a program like Beyond Media (lots of others I dont remember, that one ships with the Firefly remote is only reason I know it) and you can add a internet conenction and you got a hella lot better DVR than any consumer electronic you'd buy.

Hm, so it's as rare a combination of features as I feared. I'll think about a multimedia pc, but it looks a bit daunting (and frankly, expensive, unless I'm looking in the wrong places) so I'll probably just wait a while. Thanks all the same.

Go on [H]ardForum and ask around, they're more than glad to help you out and point you in the right direction. It's not nearly as expensive as you'd think. Most of the basic systems from TigerDirect will work, just add TV card and Remote ($50 and $20 respectivly) to a $300 system.

Another place to look for hardware that's good is NEwegg. Also for a remote, since it's cheep, I'd suggest Ebay, my Firefly I use is like $20. Some of hte stuff you can pick up at geeks for cheep too.
