i'm really enjoying season two so far
I love season one, I completed a fourth play through before I even started this with a new set of events. Even playing through 400 days for the first time ever. I'm glad that this season has totally shifted from the first game and as much as I hold the first season close to me I'm glad to have something which isn't a copy in another location with different characters.
I've seen a lot of people's complaints but after actually playing the three chapters they don't really hold up with me. Firstly the character interaction is top notch considering the situations Clem is thrown into. She's had a short time with this group of people and if you take the time to speak to people a lot of back story and connections can develop. If you choose to remain distant and closed off then you won't feel connections. I took the options of opening up, honesty and giving people a chance of their reactions to an outsider coming in with the conditions Clem arrived in. Despite the initial confrontations, re-acting in a pro-active manner gained a lot more in terms of growing as a group. Like with season one I'll replay this season several times in different ways to experience the differences in choices made.
The chapter lengths seem like how they were in the first season. In the three chapters so far the quickest I've completed any of them is around an hour and forty five minutes. Like with an adventure game I've wanted to explore every option, speak to any character I could and interact with the environment in any way I can. I've seen people rejoicing that episode four will be over an hour long. If you're completing the chapters in under an hour then how are you even playing this game? If you're trying to speed-run an adventure game then expect to be disappointed as the main strengths are through the storyline and interactions with characters, which kinda goes back to the previous paragraph. If you're going to speed through the game with the least amount of options then adventure games aren't for you. So far I've felt that each episode hasn't been either rushed or dragged out.
One thing I'm really liking is the change of pace which is forcing your decisions in different ways. In the first season there was a lot of down time, which is no bad thing at all as it did develop bonds even further. Season two so far has been a lot about quick decisions and throwing a spanner into the works with loyalties about ideas. Another thing I'm glad about with season two is that it's totally taking things out of the comfort zone from the first season, there's only small opportunities to bond with people and you have to make decisions based on what you get to know.
Season two seems a lot more fast paced with more gut decisions. Even like with series one where the storyline carried on regardless there seems to be a lot more choices in dialogue and people's reactions to you that focuses more on the relationships between rather than the main character and two others. It focuses more on the group as a whole. Even early on in season one it was clear there'd be a tug of war between Lilly and Kenny. Season two is very unclear on where it's going and who will still be there at the end.
Even after my forth play through of season one the ending still gets to me, I'm not expecting season two to end on such an emotive level but however it end's it I'm still excited to see it through to it's conclusion. I only bought the season pass to season two on Steam a few days ago and haven't regretted it. I've not encountered any graphics glitches or bugs. I will admit it was weird playing through as Clem at first but I'm enjoying it. I'm definitely going to replay the season in different ways like I have with the first.
I registered here just to give praise to this season and I'm no Telltale virgin. I've played all the Sam n Max games, Back To Future, Monkey Island and a few more. I just wanted to lend my support in The Walking Dead series. I gave it a chance after my last play through and not regretting it. I had no expectations of it like I don't with the TV series. I really hope this develops into a third series.
Also, I'd love a second Monkey Island season!
