I enjoyed it thoroughly, seeing everything come full circle was very very satisfying. We didn't get everything spoon fed to us, but we got enough and we got to see what became of the characters we grew to love over the years
Personally, I was rather disappointed with the finale for several different reasons.
"Everything will be explained." Nothing was explained. It just raised more questions.
And the fact that they made it as simple as pulling a plug was just sloppy writing.
To be honest, it seemed like after a while, they were just making stuff up as they went along, just for the sake of having something to show their audience. I kept watching for as long as I did because I thought they were going to answer some of my questions.
But they didn't. And I would have preferred a finale that was just a screen with big letters saying "they all die" instead of what they gave us.
Son, I am disappoint.
I think you missed some of the points and how it all comes together. I'm surprised at how satisfied I am in the end.
You don't have to spell out every meaning, and not explaining everything was quite alright, since it wasn't relevant. Man, I was caught by surprise at how well not explaining stuff worked out.
I cant say much, for me Lost was going downhill since season 3, so im not mad about the ending (neither in a good or a bad way)
I think its a case of "We know how this starts, and we know with wich image it will end, but we dont have the slightest idea of what to put in between" and although it gives the impression of a circular ending, there isnt really a coherent line of action between the first image and the last one.
I watched the series pretty much all at once, I watched seasons 1 through 5 in a couple months and dove right into season 6 from there, and I never noticed any decline in quality, so I am pretty certain it's just one of those things where fans make stuff up in their head to rage about.
Nah, I remember watching that episode in Season 3 where Sawyer and Hurley go looking for a frog and calling shenannigans and stalling. Season 3 was a low point for me, besides that I think it's been pretty damned consistent. I think it was during Season 3 they got a confirmed end date so Lindelof and Cuse knew exactly how to pace the show from there on also Season 3 was hampered by a massive hiatus in the middle, it came back with six cracking episodes, but it was pretty damned annoying at the time
I've been defending Lost for years against people who called bullshit on it, i'm just glad to see that it was all worth it

I'm with you. I enjoyed the finale until Jack said, "OH YAH! I'M DEAD!"
Plus, the writers repeatedly said the island was not some kind of purgatory. Okay. Fine. So then what is it? "We're not going to tell you, but hey!! Guess what!? We're going to go ahead and use that purgatory idea later to ruin the show." What an awful, awful ending. So many loose ends and plot holes.
Unanswered questions from the last episode ALONE: What was the light? Why was it so terrible for the light to go out if it can be turned on again? What was so bad about Jacob's brother leaving the island if he can't even change into a smoke monster? Why didn't Jack turn into a smoke monster? What was the point of the little "prayer" Jack neglected to recite when he passed the responsibility of protecting the island to Hurley? Why does Hurley even need to protect the island and the light anyway? Does Aaron have to be a baby forever? For that matter where was baby Charlie?
Good lord. Every question does lead to more questions. Lost is the worst.

... the ending goes way out of its way to point out that everything that happened on the island was real and happened in their real lives, so I have no clue how you could have missed that.
I didn't miss it. Read what I wrote again. They used the purgatory idea. I know the island wasn't purgatory.
I don't understand how the flash-sideways being revealed to be the characters in the afterlife has caused you to rage so hard, because everyone I know thought it was awesome.
I don't understand what people are mad about. Sure, we don't find out what resurrected Charlotte Malkin or why Smokey hates Pilots so much, but that would be so boring if the finale was just "Hey... remember this..." and Flocke would tell them. Personally, the finale was very satisfying. My favorite moment from it, which no one mentions, is when

Exactly. While I, also, would like more answers, I did not feel that the finale was the appropriate time for them. I have a feeling we'll be finding out at least some answers on the DVD set, and most likely there will be TV specials, interviews, possibly even novels, that reveal more of the mysteries.

Ha, that's funny. Everyone I know thought it was absolute crap.

Let me guess, their reasoning was that Jacob didn't show up and give a powerpoint presentation on every mystery that has ever occurred on the island? Anyone who actually enjoyed the show and cared about the characters liked the ending.
I'm 90% sure most of the people whining about it were only watching the show so that they could act all pretentious and whiny when the ending "sucked", which it didn't.

Couldn't agree more. The mystery leaves it open to intepretation, and direct answers just lack any flair. They did direct answers in several times in the last five/six episodes, and each time it was "wait, could you have made any more anticlimactic?". Look no further than the abrupt explanations given for Christian Shephard on the island and the whispers.
The ending was good. It answered enough, and still managed to keep things nicely open to the mystery of time.

Yeah, I remember when It was explained just going "oh, makes sense" the fun in Lost is the speculation and debating with the clues and nuggets the writers throw the viewers every once in a while. Sure we all want answers, but not everything needs an answer, Lost'll be debated for a hell of a long time, and that's what'll keep it alive.
Only thing that peeved me was the complete whitewashing of Walt wondering about the jungle and all his freaky antics, when I sit down to rewatch it hopefully some stuff will click and i'll be able to suss it out

Oh, but he was close. That scene where Jacob gathers the characters around the fire and they start making questions...god..for a minute i thought they were going to put on their glasses and take out their script pages.
The finale was great, though in my opinion Jack's father shouldn't have needed to talk at the very end. Would've been better had he just been in some corner of the church-thing, smiling. It didn't fit in that well that he was in there practically mingling with the survivors.

Didn't that moment happen back in early season three? Not that it made any difference to quality in my view.
To be honest, I was a little disappointed with the Jack vs Man in Black fight. It should have lasted longer, and not ultimately be decided by

Seriously they suck at storytelling.
Is that love, or utter hate?
Side Post: I haven't watched Lost yet, but it's interesting and looks fun to watch so I think I'll buy the DVD. Unless people protest about that.
