Random question re multiple cds

edited January 2009 in General Chat
This stems from a conversation earlier as I installed NWN on it's 4 disks and mused "you don't get massive 7 cd games anymore" while fondly gazing up at the copy of Phantasmagoria I bought for £2 on Thursday from A charity shop.

Anyway, this got me thinking... what game has a dubious honour of being shipped with the MOST cds? Phantasmagoria is the highest I can think of at 7 cds... Gabriel Knight 2 at 6...
Now adventure gamer geeks, can you think of any more?

I think Phantasmagoria holds the record (at least, it does in my collection).

Floppy disks, now that's another story. The King's Quest games were getting up to like ten or fifteen floppies before they switched over to CDs.

Phantasmagoria holds the most that I know of as well. Probably because they stretched it out to seven just to fit the "one week" thing.

Second place: Half Life 2 CD-ROM version weighs in at five discs.

Riven had 5. Beautifully illustrated cases, but still a pain to swap every time you moved around to a different island. My hard drive wasn't big enough to hold all of the game's content back when I played through it originally!

The game with the most disks that I played was, sadly, Final Fantasy 9. I really haven't played any computer games on floppy disk or CD-ROM, It's DVD-ROM for me!

There was a Japanese version of Phantasmagoria?

Aye, for the Sega Saturn. Probably extremely rare by now, what with Japan's views on game violence.

Didn't know it was 8 CDs, though.

Though not necessarily a game (to some it is) and not CDs, quoting from Wikipedia:
Windows 95 has been released on both floppy disks and on CD-ROM, as some computer systems at the time did not include a CD-ROM drive. The retail floppy disk version of Windows 95 came on 13 DMF formatted floppy disks, while its OEM Service Release 2.1 doubled the floppy count to 26. Both versions exclude additional software that CD-ROM might have featured.

The saddest thing: I remember installing that 26-disc-version of Win95 on my PC... it was a long day.
