does anyone know how to get a icon

    What do you mean by icon? Do you mean avatar?

    Near the top of the page you have a box to navigate the forums. At the bottom left of that box there is "User CP". Click on that to reach the user control panel. There you can click in the left column on "Edit Avatar".

    There you will be able to select an avatar, upload your own or link to somewhere on internet for one.

    You can also change other things in the control panel like your signature, location and things like that.
