Was it okay for Chuck to tell Clementine that she was going to end up dead?

...Or end up like Duck?

In my opinion, I felt it was wrong.

Clementine just witnessed her friend being carried into the woods to be put out of his misery. She didn't deserve to have any more crap put on her back to worry about. The timing was absolutely horrible, and she's a little girl.

Yes, Chuck did end up doing it for Clementine's sake, and he did make a very, very good point. But the way he did it was very wrong.

Chuck is not Clem's father. He just met her, and taking her into his own hands and telling her she was going to die was wrong of him to do. He could have put it a bit more nicely.

Now, I don't support those stupid soccer moms who spoil their kids and lie to them for their own sake and treat them like they're perfect and let them do whatever they want and sugarcoat stuff, but Chuck went over the line.

Clementine became Lee's responsibility when he found her alone in the house. Clem's parents were obviously dead and if anyone was going to look after her, it was going to be Lee. Chuck should've gone to Lee about this, not the eight year old who just saw her friend die.

What do you guys think?

**NOTE I don't hate Chuck. He did his best and he died for Clementine. Love him!

He made a good point, but I feel like he could have just talked to Lee there was no need to go up to her and say "You know your pal Duck? Won't be long till you end up like that."

I was still a bit annoyed at him afterwards but then I remembered, he's a homeless drunk lol
  • I thought that was wrong too. But I think Chuck knew what he was doing; using Clem to convince Lee to teach her some basic skills. I get the feeling Lee would've denied it and put it off longer if it was brought directly to his attention only.
  • Yeah I agree. Chuck shouldn't have said anything to Clem and he should have just gone to Lee. He had good intentions and gave Lee the idea to teach Clem how to teach a gun and cut her hair but there was no point in scaring Clem without explaining himself to her.
  • You're right, he didn't even bother to explain what he meant!

Yeah I agree. Chuck shouldn't have said anything to Clem and he should have just gone to Lee. He had good intentions and gave Lee the idea t

  • Well, it was the simple truth, but the way he just said it was kinda rash
  • It was a necessary thing to do. You can't sugar coat things these days or she may end up not taking it seriously.
  • I think him being on his own for so long made him completely forget how to even use tact in a conversation. Then again, he may have been that way all his life... his family wanted nothing to do with him. Could this have been one of the reasons?

He should have said those things to Lee, not to Clementine.
  • I agree, he probably should have gone to Lee first, but in the end, it was the swift kick that Lee needed to understand what he needed to do to protect her, so I'm inclined to think that Chuck purposefully went about it that way to achieve a strong reaction and spur Lee into motion.
  • We all die in the end.
  • Not really. Everytime she dies up til now its only for like 10 seconds then her life goes on like it never happened.
  • Chuck ended up dead instead, yay karma :)
  • True Chuck could've been more tactful about the subject
  • Agree, never understood why he would go up to a 9 year old and say YOUR GONNA DIE to get his point across. he could of just spoken to lee directly.
  • Yeah, considering everyone dies. It's the truth that Clementine can die along with Kenny, Luke, and Nick.

I don't see it happening anytime soon, but it can happen.
  • It was okay, IMO.
  • yea he could have gone to lee and not scare a sad child
  • It depends on how you look at it.
  • The most appropriate thing to do, would've been to talk with Lee first.
  • You raise an interesting question. I do agree that the way he began approaching this situation might have been a bit wrong. However, since his words ultimately wound up making Lee teach Clem how to survive, I think that justifies it. Heck, Clem might not even be alive anymore if Chuck hadn't said that. So, I guess we can all thank Chuck for Clementine being around in Season Two.

  • "I don't know much about you folks, but you keep going like this and that girl ain't gonna make it. You gotta consider her a living person, that's it! You're either living or you're not. You ain't little, you ain't a girl, you ain't a boy, you ain't strong or smart, YOU'RE ALIVE." -Chuck

This pretty much sums up the whole reason why he said what he said and i agree with him.
