My Opinion On Our Choices.....

So one common complaint this season is that our decisions we make as Clem don't really have an impact. One can see this as bad writing. I see it as great writing. Think about it, the character we play as is a 11/12 year old girl. 11 year old girls don't exactly hold the highest authority in any scenarios.

Clementine is a little girl, in many eyes in this game JUST a little girl. She's capable of more, but as for now her age and small size doesn't grant her much power. I feel this is intentional by the people at TellTale.

  • I think it's alright for choices not to matter so long as the journey and narrative is powerful. But it hasn't felt as powerful (to be fair, it's kind of hard to follow up a sort of father/daughter journey in the last season).

What I want to ask is does choosing to check in on Bonnie and Mike first over Jane give you different cutscenes? Do you get to choose to take shelter in the Civil War museum instead of the deck? That would be a good example of having some choice and a different cutscene play. I don't mind if the end destination is the same if you can make some choices that change scenes, dialog, and what happens in between. Season 1 had a bit of that but it's less apparent in Season 2.

  • What do you mean?

  • Honestly all the choices this season really just decide how independent and hardened you want Clementine to appear to others. You can make her extremely polite and caring, or really cold towards others, harboring the "lone wolf" type of personality.

The story of season two and such is still great though so I don't really mind, but I do feel Lee shaped the story a lot more than you can do with Clem.

  • That's funny since everytime there's a major decision to be made by the "Adults" everybody eye fucks Clementine to make the decision. If telltale was trying to capture realism then (Warning: I do enjoy playing as Clem) they shouldn't of had made Clem the Protagonist as kids don't get to make a Decision mostly during a time of crisis.

People need to understand the decisions can only change the plot so much. For example, Obviously you can't just leave with Jane or else they would have to make 2 different games. Your decisions basically only effect character relationships. I learned that in the 1st season. Just enjoy the story for what it is, A story.
