Russian Conversation Translation
Hello all! I'd like to start off by saying that the Russian that was used in this conversation was grammatically incorrect at times which made it hard to translate. On top of that, the voice actors had terrible Russian accents; and since certain Russain words are similar that added to the difficulty of trying to figure out what the hell they were talking about.
- !!!Clem!!! - means that there was a dialogue choice, so you get to see what I chose during my playthrough for this conversation.
- Italics are actions
- ??? - means I couldn't make out what they were saying
- I did my best to Latinize the Russian; although that pretty much is a lost cause as it is insanely difficult. Beware, I used the European latin (J makes a Y sound, Y makes an "ee" sound, sh - ch - zh are compounded together and not meant to be pronounced separately)
- BG - stands for 'background' as in that was in the background conversation. You'll see the letters next to a character's name.
Arvo: Hello?
Mike: What is this?
Arvo: Miene shlyshna? (Do you hear me?)
Clem: Arvo?
Bonnie: Arvo?
Clem: Jane and I met him on the observation deck. Before everyone else came.
Luke: That's the guy?
Kenny: You know this sonuvabitch? What's he want?
Bonnie: He doesn't look like much.
Kenny: That ain't the point.
Arvo: Hello! Please?
!!Clem!!: I don't trust him. Also, he might be mad at us.
Luke: Everybody keep your eyes open!
Arvo: Hello! You are Clementine.
Kenny: What’s goin' on here, friend? You got people with you? Where are they?
Luke: You're not out here on your own, are you?
---PEOPLE COME OUT FROM BEHIND BUSHES---
Arvo: These are my friends. We stay hidden for safety, but you we know. You're Clementine.
Female: Eta a nie? (This them?)
Arvo: Da, eta a nie. (Yes, this is them.)
Thug: Laughs
Burich: Laughs Skazhy im shtob anie pasavli ich aruzhuja napol y shtob yzabirai fsio shto nie imiem. (Tell them to put their guns on the ground and we're taking everything they have.)
Arvo: shto ty hochys ja vzal? (What do you want that I take from them?)
Burich: Atkuda jaznaju? Shtobo unich niebala, bozhyt--. (How should I know? Anything they have. God--)
!!Clem!!: We don't want any trouble.
Arvo: I told them you are the ones who robbed me. They think it's funny that you're just a little girl...
Kenny: "Robbed?"
Arvo: ...and they want you and your friends to put down the guns so we can take your things
Female BG: ??? shto ??? I ti znajesh, I ti znajesh ??? (??? what ??? and you know, and you know ???)
Luke: Whoa, whoa, hang on now?
Thug BG: ??? dielys shto ??? (??? dividing what ???) <-- They might be discussing how to divide the provisions.
Kenny: What the hell?
Burich BG: Apustili! (Lower them!) <-- Them = Guns
Mike: Nobody get excited
Kenny: Clementine, you robbed this guy?
!!Clem!!: No, you aren't taking anything from us.
Arvo: They are not telling me to ask...
Burich: Chyvo ti zhdzhios? (What are you waiting for?)
Arvo: I wish we could have met differently, Clementine. But this is how it has to be.
---EVERYONE RAISES GUNS---
Arvo: This can be easy for you.
Burich: Arvo, skazhy shtob a nie apustili aruzhuja. (Arvo, tell them to lower their guns.)
Arvo: All of you just put your guns down. This will be fine.
Kenny: Fine my ass.
Burich: Paslushy, Arvo. Pachimo annini slushats (Listen, Arvo. Why aren't they Obeying?)
Thug BG: Burich, Ataidie (Burich, move aside.)
Arvo: Ja pytajus! (I'm trying!)
Female: Ty pastaraise sylneje! (Try Harder!)
!!!Clem!!!: If you put your guns down, we will too.
Burich: Ja to znayu shto gavariu dle tibja. Apusti aruzhya seichias. (I know what I am telling you. Drop your guns now.)
Arvo: I... I--
Burich BG: Shto takoja? (What's going on [with you]?)
Thug BG: Ich shlyshkam mnoga, Buricho ataidie. (There are too many of them. Burich, back down.)
Female: Arvo, shto praishhodyt zdies? (Arvo, what's happening here?)
Kenny: The fuck is she saying?
Burich BG (To Thug): Ich buryshkai shlyshkam noga. ( )
Mike: Nobody get excited.
Burich BG: Paslushai. (Listen.)
Kenny: I will not let them touch that baby.
Burich BG: Apustili. (Drop 'em.)
---BABY WHINES---
Arvo: You have a baby with you?
Arvo: u nich karanishkovyi rebionok (They have a baby.)
---BURICH TAKES A CLOSER LOOK AT REBECCA---
Burich: Jesli ti znajesh shto harasho dlia tibje. (If you know what's good for you.)
Kenny: Yeah. So back the FUCK off.
Burich: Apustili aruzhuya zie chias! (Drop your guns now!)
Thug BG: Ich shlyshkam mnoga. (there are too many of them.)
Arvo: Buricho ataidie. (Burich, move aside.)
Kenny: Drop that now or I'm gonna fucking sho--
Arvo: Please! Oh no!
Bonnie: You! Don't even try it motherfucker! I guarantee I'm a better shot than you are! I'll drop you both
Burich: Ti hochys umariet? Ti hochys umariet? Nie zly mienia. Ty dumayiesh shto ya haroshyi muzhik? (Do you want to die? Do you want to die? Don't make me angry. You think I am a good guy?)
Mike: Everybody be cool! This doesn't have to go down like this! Don't shoot! J-
Luke: Kenny, don't!
Burich: Ty dumajesh shto ya haroshy muzhik? (You think I am a good guy?)
Arvo: Buricho Buricho astanavys. Apustili aruzuya. Te bie niezachem etava delat. Nie streleite. Ja nie hachiu umiret! (Burich, Burich stop. Lower your gun. You don't have to do this. Don't shoot. I don't want to die!)
Mike: Don't shoot! Just wait!
Arvo: Oh shit!
Mike: I don’t want to have to do this, but I will if you make me. Don’t make me do it.
Burich: Nu haraso (That's fine with me!)
Mike: Look at me! Do you hear me?
Burich BG: Nie zdrazhysh (Don't be a coward.)
Mike: I will kill you if I have to!
!!!Clem!!!: Shoot Rebecca
Luke: No!
Translating this was pretty amusing. The "Russians" said things like:
"Put the guns on the floor." <- Anyone see any hardwood floors in the scene?
"I, you no tremble." <- I can't tell if they wanted to say "I'm not afraid" or "You, don't be afraid." Either way it ended in a terrible mash up.
"Me hearing?" <- Supposed to be Arvo asking if the group could hear him.
Definitely seems like something that was pulled out of google translate.
I did the best with what I was given to work with. Interpret this as you will. Based on what the Russian characters said and how they acted, I almost feel like it might be possible that whatever is left of their groups would join up together out of necessity. The only aggro one on the Russians side would be Burich so.. maybe if he dies it might happen? I doubt that would be a scenario for Episode 5. Personally I amused myself with the thought that the groups would get split up by walkers and Clem would end up with Burich, the big ball of sunshine. It'd be a hilariously, awkward, dysfunctional team.

Not an advertisement, just wanted to share.
Whoa,so Arvo actually is trying to STOP his own group ! I knew he wasn't approving that.
EDIT : Double Post
I guess this'll change people's views, hopefully.
Sounds like he's doing it to save himself
I can't give an excuse for the cringe-worthy voice acting but here is what puzzlebox (Telltale staff) said in this thread regarding the russian subtitles.
Thanks for translating this, Stunning! I know only a few words of Russian (mostly swear words), but even so I could tell the accents were terrible! So I guess I'm not surprised that the grammar is also terrible. You did a great job with what you had anyway!
Thanks for translating. Well...damn I don't know. Perhaps I should let Arvo into the group if I can.
Thank you! I made a thread asking for Russian translations before. A helpful user directed me to this. Just do Ctrl+F and search for "Speaking Russian". I think this:
was supposed to be Maud (the female) saying, "I don't know. I only know as much as you do," in response to Vitali (the thug) saying, "What did they say?"
Can't figure out what the "provisions" or "divisions" lines might refer to, though.![:) :)](https://community.telltalegames.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I used the script before to try to figure out who would survive the gunfight at the end, if you were interested.
Thanks again for the translation. I wasn't sure of the order of the lines or which lines were actually used in the ep, so your post helped cement my conclusions about the dialogue.
Thanks! I was wondering if anyone is gonna translate it. I'm from Poland so I could understand some of this but as you said - it's not exactly grammatically correct. Good to know what they were talking about.
I'm not russian but I did understand most of it and the frist thing that stroke me was that weird accent. If TTG wants to continue with more "dialogs" with russians, they should do better job, because we ppl from slavic countries can hear the difference between lousy russian and proper.
As for Arvo, he's russian version of Ben. Enough said.
Thanks for translating this (or I will be curious for the rest of my life....)
Yeah, maybe the Russian they used was incorrect and voice actors may have a terrible accent, but I think that's just because Telltale didn't want to focus too much to make them appear perfect Russians since not all the players aren't (Michael Ark, Arvo's voice actor, is Russian but maybe the others weren't)
The bad Russian accents are noticeable, I'm not Russian myself but I understood most of it (no guns & is that them? part)
thanks this was pretty cool
So we know their names.
So that just means that Clem/ The Group is captured and taken into the city/ forest camp
I didn't realize there was any kind of Russian population in the Blue Ridge area of North Carolina?? Seems like an odd meeting to me....
I live on the west coast so I don't really know where exactly on the east coast Russians tend to immigrate to; however, I think it's safe to say that it's been a couple of years since the zombie apocalypse began and just like Clem and other groups have done, it's very likely that the Russian group turned into nomads; so they don't necessarily have to be from North Carolina.
Wow now i really hate arvo.
I don't really know where the pastebin script was pulled from. There is either the possibility that the script was altered, or like I mentioned before that TTG used google translate to translate the speech which would explain why there were random/incorrect words in the lines that the characters spoke.
I did check out the script though and that line that you mention Maud saying happens after Arvo says "Please! Oh no!" which is the 16th line from the end. There was a lot of talking at that point and I knew that Maud and Vitali were speaking but I couldn't hear what they were saying so I guess that must've been it:
The line that I couldn't make out was said a bit earlier before; and even if TTG used google translate I can't imagine that the translation would be that terrible. The word "shto" means "what"; the word "i" [pronounced "ee"] means "and"; the word "ti" [pronounced "tee"] means "you"; and the word "znajesh" [pronounced "znah-yesh"] means "know." I guess those couple lines will just have to remain a mystery..
I'm from Czech Republic. I understand something, but thanks for translation, tho!
Ain't the "thugs" name Vitali
Don't mess with her, she has the ability to shoot someone a few feet in front of her!
#Don'tFuckWithJunkies
That is true, and really, anything is possible, it just felt totally random to me. I get that the whole trigger of the scene is to not be able to understand the Russians and be confused like "our" group is, but it would have been much more natural to run into some mountain folk ect.
I lived in A-Ville for a couple of years but I still wouldn't be aware of the various ethnic groups living in the area, other than First Nation'ers and Hippies!! LOL!!
I'm not from Russia, but understand russian language (and there was no drama for me about not-understanding-the-situation :c). I totally agree with you, the accent was really weird.
I don't get why people consider this as Bonnie being bad ass. She's pointing a gun at a person who is crippled and has no gun (Arvo) and at another person who has a similar pistol as her (Maud). It's not like she's trying to take on AK guy (Burich) and shotgun guy (Vitali). Now if she said that to them when they have the kind of guns that they have then I would think she's a bad ass.
Otherwise, it just makes me think that she's just robbed a one too many people when she was a junkie and that she's pretty delusional about how strong she actually is. Congrats Bonnie, you can take out an unarmed cripple and a woman who isn't even being aggressive or threatening you. You're so tough.
They're in Virginia, I think? And there are plenty of Russian immigrants all over the US, not just Alyeska and the West Coast.
I'm not Russian either and I'm from the US, but I worked at a place with a lot of Russians and I heard them talking all day. When I heard the dialogue, I was like, "Is that supposed to be Russian? Maybe it's some dialect I never heard before?"
There are a lot of Russians in this country; you would think there would be at least a few Russian voice actors?
Tennessee. That's where parkers cross(parkers run) is irl
Thanks for this translation!
