Hubs! Hubs! Hubs for everyone!

Hubs, hubs, hubs. One does not leave the forums without seeing the word ''hub''. It's a common complaint here. The lack of major hubs in Season 2 caused anger over the forums, as they were a great place to take a break, chat with Carley or figure out a puzzle. These things were an important part of the emotional side of the game. Without hubs, you don't simply care about the other characters as much as Season 1 made you care. Well, let's get to the point.

Season 2 didn't have major hubs. This thing has been done to death. A hub in the cabin? Yes. A hub during the five-day walk? Yes. A larger hub in Carver's camp? Yes. What about Amid the Ruins? Did it bring anything to the table to stop this madness? Yes!

  1. Getting to Luke and Sarah. A minor hub, a small puzzle. Nothing really special.
  2. The observation deck. It was an exploration hub. I enjoyed it.

  3. The meeting place. This was the best one. Chat with your friends before they die. The music in here feels depressing, and that's what it should be.
You can chat with them all, except Jane. How's Sarah doing? How's Rebecca feeling?

  4. The museum. I enjoyed it, exploring the history itself. You could talk to Bonnie and Mike, too.

And that's about it. The addition of hubs really improved the episode, and I loved Amid the Ruins.

  • I literally couldn't disagree with you anymore imho lol ( sorry ! :P )

I thought the hubs in this episode were some of the worst from TWD series so far ( except for maybe the museum )
The Hub for getting to Luke and Sarah was so so so so so obvious.
Before the cut scene even ended it was blatantly obvious you needed to use the car in some way. There was no choice to explore or any other things to do or incorrect ways to approach it ( except the horrendously lazy TV knocking interaction ) . In season 1, a hub would have had a variety of things to look at that wouldn't work, other aspects to just observe and possibly even a choice between two different routes or two different ways to distract the zombies, or a compelx puzzle.
But nope, one choice, no thought needed, no choice of things to interact with and a blindingly obvious puzzle.

The same problems were in the observation deck and the meeting place. Little to do, nothing to see, and the only options possibly to persue where those that lead on to the next seen.

Remember the trailer park hub in season 1, that hub was incredible. You could literally walk round and interact with so many different things. Each conversation with each person was tailored so that it had repercussions that mattered. There were countless things to inspect that didn't do anything, they just added to the detail of the environment and help build the incredible atmosphere, you could make different choices, do we do it this way or that way.
There were some maps and telescopes on the observation deck but everything about the inspection of them seemed lazy and pointless.

I really hope series 3 takes a much more considered approach to hubs so that they can recapture the immersion that that first season had. This season has seemed lazy and rushed from the standpoint of the hubs.
Take longer on series 3 even if its a year or two. Make the episodes longer and the hubs diverse, like season 1 !

Sorry for the rant, this latest episode disappointed me

  • You're right, I get it, but comparing these hubs to the other hubs in Season 2, not bad. Well, the ski lodge was good, too.

  • I liked the hubs for Amid the Ruins XD it was nice being able to WALK again after not being able to much in Carver's camp.

  • Ski Lodge was the best hub in this season, imho.
The hub where you had to break into the groups house was okay too, although very linear.
I just found the hubs in this episode, (this season as well) to be reaaaallly lazy.

I think in general the hubs this season just don't compare to season one. That's why I had to disagree, I don't believe having these 4 hubs in this episode comes even close to making up for the lack of quality in the hubs. I think if their going to do something, it should be done right :)!
