Why was Bluebeard even in TWAU?

He didn't really have a purpose, besides for antagonizing Snow. He was a waste of space.

He was there because he's a major money contributor for Fabletown's government, and he doesn't leave the Woodlands a whole lot.

I know that. But even in Fables he was kinda useless. he was only there for Prince Charming to slaughter.

I heard he comes back way later after that. I could have heard wrong though.

  • You didn't hear wrong.

  • Awesome, I admit that I did find his character to be really badass, honestly!

I'm thinking he had a more important role in the story prior to the rewrite that occurred during the second episode. More specifically him taking the deputy mayor position instead of Snow. It definitely wouldn't be out of character for him and the episode three preview alongside episode four slide does seem to support this.

  • You hit it right on the Glamour, the way B-beard looked at Bigby (before he went into the business office in episode 5) seems to support what you said too. There's a chance they might somehow bring that storyline into season 2!

  • I wouldn't call him useless. He was there to explain where the bulk of the government's money came from.

  • He was also there to encourage Bigby to be ruthless.

  • I don't care if he's useless. Dave Fennoy voices him. So he can be the protagonist for season 2 for all I care. It's LEE

  • I think he was supposed to show how the Fabletown system is flawed. Bluebeard funds the office and demands special treatment in return - and he gets it. Meanwhile, impoverished Fables are left on their own, so they turn to Crooked Man who can at least pretend he cares about them, unlike Crane. The fact that selfish, brutal and arrogant Bluebeard is most staunch supporter of current regime is reason enough to realise that Bigby is not necessary on moral high ground here.

  • I think this is a really good point and I agree with you. Bluebeard definitely has a purpose in the story. He's the perfect example of how messed up Fabletown's system is.

To get on Snow and Bigby's nerves like he does in the comic and to give us Dave Fennoy's glorious baritone. Also, I agree with everyone else's reasoning for including him. Sometimes, a character's motivation is more subtle as it is here.

Without him, Bigby and Snow might never have gotten together and had their family so, yes, he was important.

I think he was added because, for one reason, you could assume who the criminal is and all to be yours truly. While whores were being decapitated, it was told that Bluebeard had a history of decapitating brides.

  • Do you feel fancy when you're typing in italics?

No. Do you feel fancy pointing this out? It's not illegal to type like this. I have the option to type in italics. So.

  • Ah, alright. Sorry for the misunderstanding then.

  • Because Dave Fennoy. Done.

  • He was going to have a bigger but things change.

  • He should have been reborn as a cyborg with many times the strength he had before.

  • His Book of Fables entry from Episode 1 states that he regulary visits Crooked Lane.

But, of course, that was prior to the rewrite, so this is never mentioned again. However, him burning evidence in Crane's apartment/taking files from Tweedles office is at least suspicious. I guess that he was supposed to have some interest in Crooked Man's business, but this storyline was scrapped.

Bluebeard definitely knows something about The Crooked Man. There was a Box with his name on Sheppard Metalworks. The strange part is that in was in the debts section, and I'm sure Bluebeard would never take a loan from TCM. The box was probably put in the wrong section.

  • I would of loved to tell him to get to the back of the line in episode 5
