How to escape Crawford?

Does anybody know how to escape Crawford? Every time it tells me to hit the S button to back away I keep fucking dying when I try to shoot the Walkers.

    Are you holding s and shooting at the same time? if that doesn't work it's probably a glitch.

    Either a glitch, maybe you could restart that specific chapter?
