How did they not get killed?

Jane told Everyone to Walk slowly and not run, but Sarah runs out of the herd, Luke and Nick run after her, and Sarita, Kenny, and Mike also run out of the herd. Did the walkers not notice six people running at full speed out of the herd? Or was that just made by design so Clem can be stuck with Rebecca in the herd.

  • Well just look at lee, he randomly stomps through a herd, cutting down walkers left and right, and by the end when he's covered in walker guts, they all just forget he's human, and that he killed a bunch of them. None of them follow him into the building and they all stop trying to attack him as he enters as well. What, do walkers have the memory span of a goldfish or something?

  • Yeah but he really didn't RUN and he already had the infection in him and smelled like Walker guts. He also had and weapon in his hand that Luke, Nick, Sarah, and Sarita don't seem to have.

  • Well, they pretty much don't have a brain. If you watched episode 5 of season 1 in the tv series, you will see why

  • The walkers did notice Sarah when she started running because they tried to grab her and she ducked. You didn't notice that? Also majority of them were distracted by the gun noises. On top of all that they're zombies so i'm sure their vision isn'lt all that good meaning they mostly rely on smell. I'm sure that's the case otherwise it wouldn't be so easy to fool them simply by smearing yourself with their insides.

  • if your fast and strong you can force your way through walkers fall over more so with old walkers kenny did it in the alley

  • There is no way a walker couldn't "even bother catching them" the one thing walkers really have is dogged perseverance. If they can follow a train that quickly past by them once before racing away, all the way to savannah. I'm pretty sure they can follow the much closer, tastier, and slower human that just ran past, even if it takes them awhile to catch up.

Which now that I think about it, explains that seemingly random large group of walkers that showed up for Rebecca's baby shower unexpectedly.

I know but they would sense a human running past them or are they running to fast for the walker to even bother catching them

  • You have a point there. Then again you can make an argument that maybe since they were in a herd of hundreds of other walkers, it's harder from them to sense human? Especially if they smell like one too.

P.S. How the fuck did I get a dislike in my last post for clarifying something?

Well they're supposed to have the brain capacity of rocks, so yeah

  • Well with the train it was a straight shot. Humans running through a forest is a completely different case.

  • Damn the dislike trolls in this thread XD

Anyways, I think they were still covered in the walker guts at that time, so the walkers just automatically assumed that they were walkers as well.

After all, besides chewing and walking and groaning, walkers are really freaking dumb.

  • Trolls man. They are everwhere and they dislike everyone. Don't pay it any attention bro. The more we achnowleddge the more they will continue.

  • It's really not an easy question to anwer, because we do not fully know how the Walkers work. I mean, some of them are much more aggressive and aware of their surroundings while some are quite the opposite. But it looks like (by some evidence in the comics and series), while they are in a large group (a herd), they tend to behave like they are in a state of hive-mind, watch (or simply become more aware of) what others do and kind of copy it. So if the herd is attracked by a noise or movement, most of the walkers stop acting individually and prefer to follow the herd instead. However sometimes (rarely) one of them suddenly realizes another noise, movement, or smell etc, they immediately return to their original state of behaviour and attack. If there are other Walkers around, they start to do the same.
My point is, they got lucky, Carlos and Sarita on the other hand weren't so lucky. Makes sense?

  • Really? Out of everything we are discussing we are know talking about minor plot holes like this? First off, they were still covered in guts so there is perfectly plausible reason they escaped. Second, as others have mentioned, Sarah has legs. Def ran track in middle school. just kidding, but zombies are slow as ... well. . . Ben mentally. People die because they get scared/ cornered. I don't think there has been a death in the show or game where someone is running full speed and gets bitten. The strategy of "just running"almost always works. That wasn't the outright plan here because of the sheer volume of the herd BUT because they were covered in guts + running fast it is very likely if not realistic they all escaped.

  • I just mean there's like A thousand zombies in the herd but I get your point
