What's happening with Kenny?

edited July 2014 in The Walking Dead

For those of you who have not played the 4th episode, DO NOT CONTINUE READING THIS.
If you do, and it spoils it for you, that's on you.
I don't wanna read comments that tell me to edit the title or something.
Especially when I've already given more than fair warning.
What you do with said warning, is entirely up to you.

Now on to business.

After having seen Kenny's actions in episode 4, I am concerned about him.
Now some of you might be thinking of when the walkers started to attack, and Kenny began beating one a lot more than was necessary.
However, considering that these things killed Duck, Katja (indirectly), and now Sarita, I find Kenny's anger towards them, and his taking it out on them understandable.

After all, look how Molly reacted when she found that doctor, whom she was having an affair with to get medicine for her sister, who had reanimated as a walker.
She beat the crap out of him!

And with how he responded with Rebecca's baby, I can understand Kenny's feelings toward it, wanting to protect him and all.
After all, life, whether human or animal, is a precious thing.
And since Kenny has been a father before, I think it to be natural for his feelings to look after the kid's interests, to be stronger than the average person's.
His being a bit possessive of it, I did find a bit strange, though.
However, given everything Kenny has been through, it's kind of hard to hold it against him.
Though, that doesn't mean his behavior in that respect still doesn't warrant some concern.

When Luke confronted him about it, I had Clementine keep silent.
Especially since it wasn't her conversation!
There's a time to step in, and a time to back off.
Step in where/when you're not wanted, you'll get your ass chewed out!

My real concern is how irrational his behavior has become.
Particularly when it came to discussing what to do next, where to go.
And when!

Like wanting to move at first light, right after Rebecca had the kid.
She was obviously weak, and yet he still wanted to push forward.
It's one thing to push yourself when you're weak physically.
It's quite another to push someone else.

I'm starting to wonder if perhaps, even though Kenny is strong willed, is still perhaps gradually growing insane.
And with what everything that's happened to him, that's a reasonable thing to feel.
What do you think?

Even if you had Clementine defend him relentlessly to the group, like I did, what were you thinking to yourself?

I had a hard time deciding between the two since I already figured that both would turn out bad. Rebecca was already ill and exhausted so they should look for supplies, but she shouldn't have to exert energy that she doesn't even have. There was an initial plan of Luke going forward with someone to scavenge for supplies while everyone stayed back to rest. I don't know what happened to that plan. But yeah, Kenny was being too hard on everyone during the walk even after Rebecca was barely able to keep moving.

As for the rest, Kenny's pretty much hanging by a thread. The baby's keeping him motivated, but he's clearly losing it. I knew they wouldn't have Kenny shoot her, but the fact that the characters were scared of that happening is a sign of Kenny being unpredictable and a loose cannon. So even though he has the baby now (which surely reminds him of Duck and made his paternal instincts kick in as he tries to do things over), it makes you question how he would react if he were to ever lose him.

  • He is losing his sanity. If he ever loses Clementine or the baby, he's done.

I will always defend him because I trust him the most and I know him from last season. I don't trust Jane, and I'm borderline on the rest of the group.

  • Well Jane already abandoned everyone.
So I think it's safe to say she's not reliable.
    Not a team player.

  • Kenny is fucking losing it. By the end of Episode 5 he'll either be dead or insane. The guy really shouldn't be in a leadership position. The baby brought him back from the brink, but if anything happens to that kid Kenny will probably lose it completely. The guy is broken, just like Luke said.
