Why do people want to keep playing as a child?

  • That's exactly what I wanted to mark out.

I'd say most of you who can't immerse into season 2 is because you still see (or would like to see) Clem as a normal little girl. That's in fact what she was in season one and also in the first scene of season two, but not anymore. She is still a kid physically, and of course you can still realize she is just naive about many things, but she doesn't need more protection than, say, Nick, or Doug. She can shoot, scavenge, confront walkers... etc.

Aside from pshysical limitations and the lack of experience she is just another productive member of the group and they just realize this and treat her accordingly. That's only natural, because if you are trying to survive on the edge of starvation, you would use every asset you have, and Clem's certainly one. If you pay attention, the only ones treating Clem as a kid are Mike and Bonnie, and just until they get to know a little about her.

That's the entire point of the game. Lee succeded where Carlos failed. I think most of the people who doesn't like season 2 would rather having his little girl back to protect her yet again, but, by doing so, Telltale would be telling us that all we did in season one was for nothing.

  • Clem doesn't want to grow up....

  • I second this. This season has been slacking, there has been no major decisions in this season.

  • And in the tv show is doing Rick, Daryl, Carl ..... things. Is this anything different?

  • Yes, because the TV show isn't just the perspective of Carl.

  • Video games and TV Shows are two different things,

Yes, because the TV show isn't just the perspective of Carl.

  • Lee was an adult and Clementine is young.

When it comes to siding with people, it's easier on Lee because it's easier to make your own decision, but with someone allot younger, Clementine, the adults of the group kind of force her to pick sides.

When an adult character is being yelled at, allot of people just get angry at the character, but if it's a younger character being yelled at, we feel bad for the younger character more than we do for the older character.

Each age has their own perspective, with someone like Clementine, she has allot of responsibilities for a child, people depend on her and it wasn't too long ago that she couldn't take care of herself alone.

Ok so how does playing as clementine or her role affect major decisions or the season over all? That doesn't make sense, it's telltales fault they didn't put much effort this season.

  • I don't understand the love for him either. None of the 400 days character were with us for long. You played a bit of each character. I personally can't like a character until i have played with or as them for a while.

Why do people still want Nate? He was only in 400 days DLC and yet only in Russel's story and for a while he looks like a ''badas'' and nowy

Most of them really do want her as a protagonist, others succumb to peer pressure.

  • You gotta consider her a living person. That’s it. You’re either living or you’re not. You ain’t little, you ain’t a girl, you ain’t a boy, you ain’t strong or smart. You’re alive.

Where did he say making out? He's 12. Let it be innocent.

Girlfriend? I don't know about you, but Clem hasn't even gone trough puberty, and I couldn't imagine 11 year old clem making out... It's just... Undespeakable... Plus... TWD isn't actually passed on our current time, so she could be... 15?

"Why do people want to keep playing as a child?"

Because, why not? If it's part of the narrative, then I don't see what the problem is. And many games have had you play with a child protagonists in the past [Ico, Clock Tower 3, Fatal Frame 2, Kingdom Hearts.] The thing that probably stands out for Clem is that we've not played as someone so young before in donkey years [Ellie was 13 in The Last of Us] and it's within a setting that really isn't kid friendly. That's probably the interesting take on it, there's never been game that I know of where you're in a zombie apocalypse and the whole time you follow a child's perspective who isn't an adult. The only time it's come close to that in the past is the brief time you can play as Sherry in Resident Evil 2.

Really it comes down to it, it's just personal opinions and tastes on what kind of games gamers like playing. For me, if the game had us play as Clementine in a Season 3 only a couple months older, it wouldn't bother me. Games in the past have shown age isn't an issue.

Besides, Clementine kicks serious ass! And that's not bad for an 11 year old :D

  • Got that right!

  • You can call Kenny an asshole in the tent ya know. Also I really want to play as a 15-16 year old Clem.

Play as a child is different. but interesting. of course I also miss kick some ass too, like when I was Lee Everett. but Clem offers other forms of gameplay, is another perspective. is a bit passive in some ways, but it's still a really cool experience! and well.. we are Lee's legacy now. xD

  • Agree!

  • I give you answer you want:

Quote from The Walking Dead Season 2 FAQ:

The apocalypse doesn’t care who you are or what you can do; you just have to survive. Playing as Clementine will present you with some unique challenges and if you cared about her in Season One, you’ll care about her – perhaps more - in Season Two.

  • I like playing as Clem more than i liked playing as Lee. There's not many games where you can play as a child. Seriously, 99% of all games are adults or something else. And when we finally get to play as a child, people don't want to. The Walking Dead WOULDN'T be the same without Clem. Season 1 was Lee's story, now we're playing Clem's story in Season 2 and HOPEFULLY Season 3 too. It has to be Clem in Season 3, IT HAS TO!

  • Make sense for me, for others but not all of them. I think that I really care about her even more after this 4 episodes and I don't know what to expect after finale.

It didn't make sense to me the way Carver reacted to her on first encountering her. I don't think that scene would have made a lot of sense even if she were an adult. It was like they were observing social convention that would no longer exist and especially not between a grown man and a child in that kind of situation.

Other than that, I think Clem's a weaker character than Lee but it feels to me like she's the Tell Tale equivalent of the silent protagonist. For that reason a greater range of choices feels more normal. I don't feel like I have to be faithful to an established character's traits or values. E.G. Playing Jane as a badass, or Kenny as a hot-headed.

  • I've done a straw poll a few days back regarding this topic, got about 65 votes. I kinda wanted to see how gender and age would affect the choice.

  • This season sucks big time but it's not because of Clem it's because the story sucks.

  • Me, too :(

    i miss LEE

  • How does the seasons story suck? If anything it's great, but I think you're mixing up "awful story" with "a story that could be better"

Ok maybe not awful, just inconsistent.

There doesn't seem to be a real plot or anything, we hear Wellington every now and then but they don't talk about it much, the episodes have been good but on the whole it just seems mixed up and rushed through.

Check out Among The Sleep and then tell me something about playing as a kid XD And it's (at least it is supposed to be) horror game, too. :D

  • i can't believe i am saying this but i think i would have prefered to play as lily rather than clementine (team kenny) in season two, because at least the game would have been more believable
