New "King Wenceslas" theory for No Going Back

edited August 2014 in The Walking Dead

Some people were saying the "Good King Wenceslas" song Sarita was singing from episode 2 could be foreshadowing of something in the future. I haven't seen any threads on this since before ep 4 was released, so I thought I'd bring it up. Here's the dialogue, and the scene's below it:

Sarah: What's that song you're humming?

Sarita: Good King Wenceslas. It's my favorite Christmas song.

Sarah: What's it about?

Sarita: Well. It's about a king that brings food to a poor man. The king and his servant march all night through a cold winter storm to reach the man. The storm is very strong. After a long time, it gets so cold that the servant can't go on. But the king tells the servant to just step in his tracks. "Mark my footsteps, good my page. Tread thou in them boldly. Thou shalt find the winter's rage, freeze thy blood less coldly."

Sarah: I don't get it.

Sarita: It means that doing good things for people can be good for you, too.

Sarah: But the servant wouldn't have been out there in the first place if the king hadn't made him.

Sarita: (laughs) Good point.

If you want 'em, here are the full lyrics.

So there's three main characters in the song: the King, the King's servant, and the poor man. Here's my theory:

Clem does make a pizza/ice cream choice to go with either Kenny or Luke, though it was really hard for her. But then after she made said choice and we have two separated groups, she and her fellow (let's say for simplicity's sake she chooses Luke) feel bad and go back to find Kenny and the baby, maybe because Clem and Luke have found a great shelter, and a big snowstorm starts with Kenny still out there. I imagine Clem to be the least injured of the three (Luke, Clem, and Kenny) after the gunfight and she really wants to help Kenny, so I think Clem encourages the injured Luke to continue on, making Clem King Wenceslas and Luke the servant, while Kenny is the poor man. Then they all hopefully find each other again. Later more things could happen, but I'm not talking about that here.

The same scenario could happen if she chose Kenny instead of Luke.

Sarah brings up an interesting point: "But the servant wouldn't have been out there in the first place if the king hadn't made him." Another reason why I'm guessing Clem is the King, as neither Luke nor Kenny might not be as likely go back for each other.

Sarita summarizes by saying, "[The song] means that doing good things for people can be good for you, too." So hopefully this means that Clem could overpower her survival instinct to not go back into a storm, and instead try to do the "good thing" by helping her friend?

This is only one theory. Who do you guys think represents each of the people from the song? Could it be three characters other than Clem, Luke, and Kenny? Am I being too optimistic in thinking they would go back after the pizza/ice cream decision? Do you think TT will only use a scenario with two people, like one character trying to find another character in a storm, or one character encouraging another to go on? Did TT already use this analogy somewhere else in the season, and I totally missed it? Or am I just overthinking it waaaay too much? Give me your theories and what you think! :)
