Kenny's Past

Okay, so i was wondering about Kenny his past. When i saw the trailer i got kinda inspired, Clem used to be the young cute girl and is now holding a gun. But what about Kenny? Did he ever think he was gonna trow a salt lick and explode a head, shot his son (determent) and beat a guy his head in with a crowbar? How was Kenny before all this happened? We know a few things: He used to be an commercial fisherman. He drove a pick-up truck and is from Florida. His behavior during the apocalypse may show signs he used to be a redneck, because of his mullet and the way he drinks and pick up. So lets get to the point, would the old Kenny ever be able to kill somebody? What i surely believe is that Kenny was the kind of father that would threaten a child that would bully Duck. He was very caring about Katjaa too, that is what we all know for sure. What are you thoughts about his prior life? I believe he was a hard working family man doing everything to be happy with them. You?

  • I also think Kenny before the apocalypse, was a hardworking family man.

I think Kenny used to be a nice, loving person.

But then, everything changed when the zombie nation attacked.

  • I think Kenny used to be a good man who would only show his dark side when his family was in danger. Unfortunately, when the ZA started, his family was in danger 24/7, which resulted in him showing his dark side 24/7.

  • Character transformation is what i love the most about The Walking Dead and is why Carol Peletier is my favorite character in the T.V show.

Who would have thought that back then he would go from this

or even what that little girl would become.

  • And ended up in him showing his dark side even when his family weren't in danger.

  • Yeah, it was kind of disturbing to me as character growth.

Like, I feel he used to have his humanity, then season 2 struck and....

Well, that's why I like season 1 kenny and not season 2 kenny.

  • Kenny was an imperfect man. He really cared for his family a lot, he was hardworking man to support his family and clearly he had some more patience given that duck was a, how he puts it, "strange kid". (Duck was clearly almost like Sarah). But he had(still has) his flaws. Hothead, could become loud. Fights with his wife(not physically), but always apologizing her because he felt bad of what he probably said out of anger. And if when stressed he would, abd other few things, get drunk. Overall Kenny has always been a good guy, but just an imperfect man. Now the ZA has harden him more, affected him and clearly out of pure instinct become more hotheaded.

Hell yeah, he used to be awesome

I didn't agree with everything he did in season one - leaving lee to die under a door and refusing to save a little girl were particular highlights - but he was overall likable.

Now he's just gone bat shit crazy.

    You actually liked Kenny? LOL!

  • I thought you was this Die-hard lilly fan tough? Not that i dont like Lilly btw, im really hoping she returns in Ep 5

  • Absolutely not.

I mean, I did like Lilly more than Kenny, but that doesn't mean I have to hate Kenny.

  • Oh, because killing Larry wasn't right as he was revivable and could have said goodbye to his daughter.

But just because on one specific instance I believe that Kenny was wrong and Lilly was right does not mean I hate either of them.

  • Yes but Larry was dead and You and me both if our family was out there we wouldnt hesitate trowing the salt lick

  • Well, like others have said, Kenny was a good hearted family man and would do anything to protect his family. I believe that's still true, even now that he has the baby and Clem.

  • Larry wasn't dead.

If you push on his chest enough times, he breathes. Pushing on someones chest doesn't make them turn into a walker faster, so he did breathe and wasn't turning into a walker.

He was dying, yes. But if Kenny had had more self restraint, he could have said goodbye to his daughter, which would have made Lilly go less crazy and well....the storyline of Long Road Ahead may have been quite different.

  • Yes but Kenny his family was in danger so he did what he had too i think we will both do the same, i cant speak for you but i right up admit i would kill him too

  • His family were in danger sure, and he acted rashly because of that, sure, but that doesn't make what he did objectively right :p

I would take precautions to kill him, but Kenny acted too quickly: they did have some time before he would reanimate.

When my daughters are born next year maybe my answer will be different,. but I like to think as a person that I would be able to keep my head screwed on in matters of life and death. :)

  • He worked on boats.

  • Kenny was a captain, which explains his ease at playing the leader.

I like to imagine that Nick represents who Kenny was in his twenties - a kind-hearted, insecure, hot-blooded man who screwed up a fair amount of times.

A determinant line from Kenny gives a pretty good idea of what he was like before the apocalypse.

If you side with Lilly and then talk to him after he smashes Larry, he says something like this:

"Jesus, man! I was the guy who couldn't bear to watch the family dog get put down! You think I enjoyed doing this shit? It needed to be done and you know it!"

    Here, found it:

  • Which only strengthens the parallel between him and Nick further. Nick, who couldn't bear to shoot a deer, grows up to become a man who almost blows a child's face off and shoots a man in the throat. Kenny, who was too sensitive to see his pet die, later bashes a man's skull open.

  • I didn't like lots of his actions but that doesn't mean I didn't like him.

And when I came to the forums around 400 days era te way people worshipped him made me very uncomfortable.
