What does everyone do for a living?

I was just thinking about occupation dispertion in various forums and stuff, and was curious about what you guys' jobs are!

Personally, I work in construction , although that's not my end aim. I'm using my evening to write, as I hope of becoming a novelist at some point :)

What about you?

  • Last year of middle school coming, but for now I'm still in holiday :)

  • I'm currently working at Publix. Americans know what that is.

However, I'm halfway through the process of becoming a lawyer. I also attend college, by the way. Finishing some legal stuff there.

  • I'm a part-qualified accountant. :)

  • I'm a software developer. I write the programs that make the ... whole ... 'Net ... run!

  • Wow, you sound extremely busy!

I'm not an american, so, the question you were expecting, what is 'Publix'? :p

Basically, it's this huge supermarket that sells everything. You get from fruits and meats, to flowers and medicine. It's divided into pharmacy, bakery, deli, etc. Did that help a little?

Of course, you can always google "Publix" for a better look.

  • That's exactly what it is. (;

Woah, so the name is written similarly in Spanish, English, and French?

    Spanish: "Supermercado"

    English: "Supermarket"

    French: "Hypermarche"

Ah, in english a 'supermarket' is different to a french 'hypermarche' though :

The french have 'supermarche' and 'hypermarche', hypermarche just has much more, like what you descrbied.

But yeah, the word is similar in english, french and spanish. And italian for that instance (supermercato).

This is because they originally all come from Latin in part, particularly French, Italian and Spanish.

Super means 'above' or colloquially 'better' in Latin, and 'market' originally comes from 'mercator' meaning merchant :)

All of the words are different slightly, but all similar because of that root. Cool stuff like this is why I love linguistics :D

Don't take my word for it, but Portuguese is said to be similar to Spanish, too. I don't know, though. I only speak English, Spanish, and a little bit of Italian.

We seem to get along too well. You do realize I'm a Kenny fan, right? :p

    Not fanboy, though.

  • Well I would like that but what if me and you could make a clan? All Kenny Fans Clan Make a account on this forum and side with each other. You being the Leader and all.

Ah, but the difference between fanboy and fan is crucial :)

People who don't like Kenny get on fine with people who do like it as long as neither of them rub this fact in each others faces by accusing Kenny of attempted murder or spamming racist slurs, boat jokes and comments on facial hair :)

I personally don't give a damn whether people like him or not. I love his character and what he brings to the table. I could be the only one who likes him for all I care. I mean, it's not like everything is lovely about him. The fact that he's a bit of a hypocrite is one of his main flaws. So, no, I don't let a person's preferences ruin my opinion on him or her.

Haven't honed in on a particular career yet, but I'm switching my major from Int'l Relations to "Converged Communications." I'm taking a semester off to help my parents move down to Florida (and transfer there for the in-state tuition), so in the short term, I'm gonna to find some kind of day-laborer job and try to throw freelance writing at anyone who might publish it or pay me.

Long term, I'm not sure. Best case, I'll break into something like journalism, translation or editing. Worst case, I'll teach English in the mid-east or join the peace corp til' I figure out what I'm doing. :/

  • Ha true but you also get fucking soaking and the winters are not fun :)
