Clarification about registration keys (you don't need them!)

HeatherleeHeatherlee Telltale Alumni
Hi all...

I think some other posts on here have given people the misconception that they cannot play the game unless they have a registration key code. This is NOT the case.

If you follow the following instructions (and they all go smoothly), the system will unlock the game for you, without you needing to put in any key:
To download your software, please follow these instructions:
Step 1: Go to http://www.findmyorder.com. Enter you order number and password and click submit.

Step 2: Right click on the "Begin Download" button. OR click the "finish" button.
***Note that if you have a finish button instead it is because you have already downloaded the game, the game should now be unlocked. (Go ahead and play!)

Step 3: Choose "Save Target As"

Step 4: Choose where you would like to save your download. We recommend saving it to your Desktop. Click "Save". Your Software will begin downloading at this time.

Step 5: Once your download is complete, you must install it. To easily install your software, go to where you saved the download and double click on the software icon. This will begin your installation process

You ONLY need a key if something fouls up with this process. In which case, feel free to email support@telltalegames.com.

Enjoy all!

Clicking on the "Finish" button didn't work for me, no matter how many times I tried it. It closed the window but didn't unlock the game.

I just now got it to work, though, by clicking on the red "Customer Service " text on the startup/demo/splash screen and entering my order ID and password and clicking "Reissue key". That worked.

Apparently something got fouled up before hand, but I have no idea what I could have done wrong to make the "finish" button not work. Things seem to be alright now though.

After you clicked the "Finish" button, did you try running the game? Did the buy now screen come up or did it go straight to the menu of the game?

Just trying to sort out all the issues so we can get them figured out...

    Thanks!

    Yes.

The "Buy now/Continue free trial" screen came up.

Sorry, I guess I wasn't as clear as I thought. :D Hope that helps you all figure out what's up! As I said, though, I got it working by reissuing the key from the customer service link at the top of the "buy now" screen.

Ok, there is a new version available and these problems should be cleared up now.

Thanks to everyone who helped us narrow down the problem!

" Ok, there is a new version available and these problems should be cleared up now." cannot download the new version so these problems are just as rife now...

Hi, I would like to clarify something.

At the moment I can run the game, but must be connected to the Internet. Is there a way of running the game without being connected to the Internet.

This is the message I get if I try to run it without being connected to the Internet:

Hey Seed! You should be able to play the game without being connected to the internet. Would you please email support@telltalegames.com with your order ID, and we will try to figure out what is going on.

    Thanks!

Would that be the bit that shows up as "Order Number" uner the Order Information section?
  • edited September 2005
Correct - Just the Order# and the name on the order, You can email either Heather or I directly with it.

    Cheers.

OK, thanks for the help guys.

Huh? I don't understand.... can you copy this game to other machines without getting a new code? In that case, what is the point of that code? Please clarify someone, I'm dying to buy this game but I will not do so if I need to get new keys every time I upgrade.

I can't play when disconnected from the net either, I get the same error message as that guy some posts above me!
What the hell is this.. internet is not listed in the system requirements even. I could legally demand my money back, but I like the game too much. Please fix this ASAP!

    Bump.

Could we have an official answer to this? It's annoying that the game does not work when I'm not connected to the net.

Laffer, please email me directly with your OrderID, hardware fingerprint and full name. We'll resend a code to you that should rectify your situation.

    Thanks

I got my problem sorted out all right. I think the problem was that I didn't actually receive the email containing my original security key. To be fair though the Digital River guys were really helpful at getting it fixed, which is encouraging. Support all round has been great.

There still seems to be problems. I downloaded Bone for the first time today, purchased, and the 'Finish' button only closes the browser :(

I'd like to be able to play more than the first part of the game.

Is this the 55mb or 75 mb version? Get the 55mb 1.0.1 version if not...

I'm pretty sure its the 1.0.1 version that I downloaded. Like I said, I just downloaded it today off the site. Shouldn't it be downloading the latest version?

HAve you tried entering your info manually intro the game? Go to the splash screen of the game, and press the "activate previous purchase" or whatnot, and enter your orderid and password. If that doesn't work, email support@telltalegames.com

actually did that a couple days ago, and proceeded to complete the game. Thanks for your help :)

Now I'm just trying to get that red dragon card for the bone cards!

Question: Are keys swappable between the Mac and Windows versions? So that, if I bought a Windows CD copy, I could still unlock the download on my Mac with the same key? That would seem to make sense, with Telltale's "you buy it, it's yours to keep" policy.

As of right now they aren't, because the Mac version is being handled by Vanbrio, and uses a different activation system than the one Telltale uses. (I'm not even sure if the system we use works with Mac products.)
