The Boxtrolls

Anybody see this movie yet? http://www.avclub.com/review/makers-coraline-return-another-morbid-marvel-boxtr-209655

I had no interest in seeing it, because despite my fondness for stop-motion animation, the character designs looked very unappealing.

But the fairly-positive review, the reminder that it's from the folks who made Coraline, and the surprising reveal that it's co-directed by Telltale friend Graham Annable has me more intrigued. In fact, somehow seeing Annable's name attached makes both the art style and the odd premise snap into focus.

What do you think?

I absolutely love stop-motion movies! It's not out in my country yet but I hope I'll watch it soon.

EDIT: I convinced my mom to go and watch The Boxtrolls with me next weekend. Yay!

  • Sorry, but The Boxtrolls doesn't appeal to me at all. I agree with you. The models look very unappealing.

I'm not a very big fan of stop-motion animations, but one that does stand out to me greatly is: Mary and Max. It's an Australian stop-motion pic, and HOLY SHIT is it dark. It goes into themes of depression, death, sickness, and even suicide! For a G rated movie, those are some pretty hectic themes to have.

  • I just saw it today with my friend and I thought it was really cute and funny. I liked it :)
