PS4 vs. PS3 version of the game - any advantages?

edited October 2014 in The Walking Dead

Hey folks, I've been going back and forth thinking about getting the next gen version of my favorite game. It's a shame there's no discount for those who purchased both games already, but oh well... Both seasons are super laggy on ps3 and don't run smoothly at all.

Is someone out there who had the chance to compare both versions? Couldn't find a proper review on the internet, yet. Does buying it again pay off, in the end?

  • Runs really smooth, 60 frames per second, other than that the only other two things i've noticed is you can use the R2 button to do actions and in the Starved For Help preview they actually have the characters wear the right clothes.

  • Oh and the shadows aren't so fuzzy, character models and textures in general look better.

  • Loading times are much better, less glitches, fast, looks better too.

I have it for PS4 so take my word.

It is so much better on PS4

  • Thank you, guys :)
I wish there were screenshots, though. What about the textures?

  • PS3 sucks. Its slowdown makes the game less fun. PC or PS4.

  • It's great on the next-gen consoles.

Runs much more smoothly on PS4 (Don't get me started on the 360, I played the demo and it LAAAGGGSSS so much)

  • Okay, my friend just sent me this link:

I don't see a huge improvement to be honest, though I reckon YT is to blame

  • I bought it for PS3, and got so sick of the frame skips/drops i went insane, and repurchased it during season 2 on steam. I had to replay the whole game on PC to get back, but it was worth it not having to deal with the annoying PS3 failures.

  • PS3 runs a bit smoother than the Xbone, but I do agree that there were frame rate drops (especially on the scavenger event in Episode 1).

  • Well, since it's a console, frame drops are expected.

  • I was done with it, i don't see why we have to buy the same game on both systems. A little greedy telltale. Same reason why i won't buy TLOU for PS4.

When they could of easily made PS3/4 Backwards compatible like they did with the PS2. The only reason they didn't is because they wanted to make money by selling their PS now subscriptions. So now we are forced to have another console on display and suffer with horrible frame loss.

I have a PS4 and i turned it on maybe 10 times since i bought it last november. It just sits here like a black little box gathering dust. Now its grey.

Why is Sony still making games for the PS3.

  • They wouldn't want to drop the chance in earning more money. lol.
But still, Telltale is better than EA.

I recently went to a games store days ago, and the shelves for Xbox One and PS4 have about 10 games on stock.
And everyone there are just checking on the 360 and PS3 shelves.

Why is Sony still making games for the PS3

They've always done that since the PS1 era. The very last PS2 game to come out was last year in November called PES2014: Pro Evolution Soccer. Also, it's not Sony that makes the games, it's the game companies. And it's they that decide what consoles they want their games on.

And the reason why many game companies still develop games on older consoles is because the install base of the newer systems don't usually grow huge (especially in Japan) until close to half the new console's lifespan. With a huge install base of the previous gen systems, game companies can still profit on making games for those consoles until more consumers move on.

And no, Sony could not make the PS4 easily backwards compatible with PS3 games. Technological hardware doesn't work like that. The reason the PS4 isn't backwards compatible with PS3 games is because the PS4 hardware uses an entirely different architectural structure (X86-64 Architecture) than the PS3 (Cell Architecture).

  • So what if you have twd S1, S2, 400 days and michoone all on your PS3 but want to play S3 on ps4? I don't want to rebuy all those games.

  • They have hinted that they are working towards a new and updated save system for Season 3 to accommodate people in situations like yours, but they have not yet elaborated on that heavily. Check back for more details closer to Season 3.

  • Please make sure to check post dates and to not post in old threads from long ago unless something new in particular comes up to discuss. Thanks.
