Telltale games: Never on sale on iOS

I hope not to sound overly whiny, but I'm curious what the reason might be that episodic Telltale games never seem to go on sale at the iOS app store. These games lend themselves very well to touchscreens, but it's hard to justify $20 on one platform for something that is sometimes discounted to $6.99 (or less) on PC or Mac.

People take advantage of discounts for a number of reasons — obviously there are many prospective customers who want the game less than people willing to pay full price, but also those who already own it on another platform, want to buy it for a friend as a gift, etc. For outlets other than iOS, Telltale clearly sees the benefit of eventually discounting its products to harvest the dollars of the less-discriminating, unwashed masses. But games that have been out for years on iOS still cost $15 or $20 (for all episodes), seemingly all the time. Wherefore this strategy?

  • Actually, they used to have a lot of iOS sales at various points through 2011-2013 from what I off-handedly. I don't know if there have been any recent sales as I have not paid attention, but I do recall Telltale releasing free Episodes of their newer series at various points in the Summer earlier this year. If I am not mistaken, Telltale usually participates in Holiday sales towards the end of the year as well so I'd guess you can look forward to that.

Of course, Moderators are volunteers from the community and not Telltale staff so take that guess with a grain of salt.

  • At least you get your episodes released in a timely manner on IOS. I had to wait 3 weeks to play episode 4 and 5 on Android whilst everyone left, right and Centre left spoilers.. Not to metion the 3 month late release.
