The Conjuring, Why do they need approval from Vatican?

In the movie The Conjuring, Why do they need approval from Vatican to perform an exorcism? and also, why is it difficult to get approval if the children were not baptized and non-churchgoers?

Comments

  • Because...Religion?

I guess the Church allows non baptized kids to be taken over by demons.

The Church actually does do exorcisms. It's a special procedure, and in order for it be done, the Vatican has to approve of it to make sure it is done right, at least in the Roman Catholic Church for exorcisms.

Why do they need approval from Vatican to perform an exorcism?

They don't have to, its just part of the storyline. They could of contacted a Native American Shaman, and he or she could of fixed it right as rain.

  • For the sake of the plot. (And to make it harder for the protagonists to live happily ever after)
