What is your opinion of the Xbox 1, and PS4?

edited November 2014 in General Chat

Even if you don't have either one, what do you think of them?
I personally have neither one.
I'm perfectly content with my Xbox 360, and my PS3, even though I only play them on occasion.

And my opinion of the PS4 and Xbox 1: They're a waste of time and money.
The way I see it, since I don't use either of the gaming consoles I've now very much, what am I gonna do with another one?
More than likely it would just sit in a box, gathering dust.

And also, both the Xbox 1 and PS4; last time I checked, sell for over 400 dollars, and the games sell for over 60 dollars.
The companies who made them, want me to spend over 400 dollars, just so I can play a game that will cost me an additional 60-something bucks.
What sense does that make?

Now I know there are some who'll say: "Just wait, and the prices will come down, and then go ahead and buy them."
Well, before Xbox 1 was ever even in the process of being developed, I went to a gaming store, and to get an idea of what the then current value of Xbox 360 was; and mind you were talking only a few years ago, I asked for a price-quote, and the man working their showed me that new Xbox 360 was still selling for over 200 dollars, and for a used Xbox 360: around 120 dollars.
Now even at that price, what sense does it make to pay 200 dollars, or even 120 dollars, just to play a game that will end up costing an additional 10-70 dollars, that you'll probably end playing maybe once or twice?

As far as I'm concerned, that's just a waste of both time and money.
I'll save my money for important things, like food, clothing, rent, the power bill, fuel for my truck, etc.
And as far as wasting time, in my opinion: Videogames are ok, as long as you are playing them only on occasion.
It when you start playing them all-day-every-day, that it causes you to miss out on socializing with others; is when there is a problem.

While I'm alive, I'm gonna try to learn as much as possible, and do as much as possible.
In fact, according to the latest medical report I've heard, research shows that people who are constantly learning new things, and learning new ways to do things, are at less risk for developing Alzheimer's disease in their old age.

Benjamin Franklin, in regards to life and time, put it this way: "If you love life, don't waste time, as that's the stuff life is made of."

  • I have just about every system from the NES to the PS4. The only current console I don't own at the moment is an Xbox1. I don't believe owning a PS4, Xbox1, or any new console for that matter, is a waste of time and money. You may think so, but that certainly isn't the case for me and many other video gamers. You have to accept that fact that as the PS3 and 360 become more and more outdated in the coming years many game developing companies will move on making games strictly for the PS4 and X1, just like a lot of companies did with the PS3 when the PS2 became outdated, and every system by Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft before that. Also, the main reason I got a PS4 was because I want to play games like Kingdom Hearts 3, and many other JRPGs that are coming out exclusively for that system, so I fail to see how I'm wasting money if those games I want to play in particular aren't even going to be developed for PS3.

PS4 costing $400 isn't that expensive. Did you forget that when the original fat PS3s came out, they were $600? And games have always been around the price range of $40, $50 and $60, even going as far back to the original Nintendo systems. You also seem to have no idea how much effort as well as the costs and resources it takes to develop a game. Video game designing isn't free, and depending on the game in particular being made; the company, manpower, and the resources needed, the budget costs can easily be around a million or more dollars. That is one of the reasons why video games are expensive to purchase, simply because of all the hard work that goes into developing them in the first place.

I'm not really sure what you're arguing about in your next paragraph. Are you saying video game consoles should be free or at the very least not cost more than a $100? Because again, the reason why game consoles are priced in the mid or high hundreds to begin with is the simple fact that those systems cost a crapload of money and resources to manufacture. When a company spends a plethora of money and resources to develop something, you have to expect the product on the sales floor to be expensive as well, so that the companies can make a profit (in other words, receive their money back along with more) in the product they have developed. And the reason consoles become cheaper over time is because the resources and cost needed to buy and manufacture the parts become cheaper and easier to build, thus reducing the costs on the final product.

I don't know why you're comparing playing video games to things like food, clothing, rent, and bills. Those thing are necessities and vital to live, whereas playing video games are a luxury and aren't necessary to live. That's like saying reading a book, drawing, listening to music, or watching movies are a waste of time and money compared to buying food, clothing, rent, bills etc. You just can't compare luxuries to necessities like that. Many people play video games purely to kill the time or for entertainment purposes similar to how people read books, listen to music, draw, or watch movies. They are entertaining and people enjoy them.

I'm constantly learning new things too during my spare time, as well as going to work and college, and I can still find the time to play video games for a few hours (3, 4 or more) everyday while staying on top of all that stuff.

  • I do understand the concept of being in business, no worries there.
My point was, that in these tough economic times, people need to spend their money wisely.

I'm glad to hear, that while even though you love videogames, you still are taking the time to better yourself.
    So many do not.
It's like once they start playing videogames, nothing else matters to them.
And thus they miss out on so many different opportunities that would otherwise come their way.

Things like reading and drawing are great because not only do they have the ability to entertain, but they also stimulate your brain.
Watching movies is fine, but they need to be kept in their place, same as videogames, and same as everything else in life.

  • Well i just bought a xbox 1 for my nephew for xmas this year. A few hours ago... He got ps4 last year.

I have a PS4, never got into the Xbox games not since original. I don't really play it anymore being an adult.

  • Don't have either but in general iv'e heard the PS4 is "Better" but there isn't a lot off games for it.

  • I don't have either, so I can't give an actual real-life opinion on it. I am happy with my Xbox 360 and PC.

That being said, I think that the Xbox One is highly underrated. I looked at some of the features it has, and looking past just its ability to play games it has a lot of awesome things. PS4 offers more in general when it comes to games though, considering all the exclusive Playstation games that have been really good, ex. Infamous Second Son and if you wanna date back farther Last of Us

All of that being said, I don't care about "which one is better" and all that console war crap. If it can play my games well, thats all I really need.

I recently bought an Xbox one and I gotta say it is one of the best purchases I ever made and a great deal it came with the Xbox and assassins creed black flag and AC: Unity. The games for it are awesome too and I'm glad I bought it now with tomb raider(Xbox exclusive),the witcher 3 and Batman arkham knight coming out for it soon. And it's good I got it now since the next mass effect will most likely be Xbox1 and ps4 exclusive. Also the graphics are flat out amazing, makes me feel like I'm really there when playing a game.

  • I upgraded a few month back and have both in my house now.. ps4 is my son's while xb1 is mine..

The whole next gen gamjng thing hasn't really kicked of yet tbh, yes games look better but its not mind blowing yet...

I was all against xb1 after there shambles of a release, but on spending weeks reviewing both systems on the net I decided to go with xb1 with kinetic, I can honestly say its the best thing i have purchased in quite a while, I love it, the whole family loves it, its transformed our household..

Ps4 is good, but it doesn't do half the things the xb1 can, if your just in it for the games then ps4 is probably the way to go I guess, but I wouldn't be without my xb1.. love it to bits

  • I don't think its a waste of money if you plan on using it. Even with your X360, you purchase for $X then to use it you have to buy games for $60 or more at launch. I don't have the resources to buy one and still considering if using a Steam account is sufficient in the type of play I plan on using. As far as I know, Steam has most of the games I'd be interested in playing on consoles so all I need is a laptop/computer to play on. I'm interested on several games now, some exclusives I can't get on my 360. I don't know which way I'll go. My opinion is it won't be necessary until more developers stop coding games for the ps3/360.
