Worth it?

I've never seen 30 seconds of a single Game of Thrones episode. Is it worth it to dive into the Telltale spinoff? Will I be missing important references to the show?

  • As a fan of the show, I enjoyed the first episode a lot and it stayed true to the source material. But it is recommended to catch up with the show or else you will be missing a lot of key elements. Right from the start, the game spoils a huge event from the show. Telltale does try to familiarize newcomers with the lore, but it's not enough.

My advice: Try and watch the show to see if you like it(or the books), and if you do, chances are you will enjoy the game as well.

  • I've only watched the first episode of the show, yet I loved this. Maybe it's different between people but I'd say give it a shot ^_^

  • It's not necessary, but you'll get more out of the game, definitely.

  • Know of anywhere the series is available to watch?

  • Yes. This episode was amazing, I even liked it more than Zer0 Sum.

I would still recommend on diving into the books or show. The books are amazing and I just started the show and it's pretty good too. Other than them being amazing series, you will also get more of the nods toward them that happen in the game.

  • I've never watched the show or read the books and I enjoyed it. You'll need to learn how the universe works, but after that you'll be fine. Like all of Telltale's games, the story is contained in a bubble kept separate.

I'd watch it or read it up to book 4 or season 4, the show is what its based off so I'd recommend that, in fact season 3 if you want it to actuallly continue where season 3 ended though I think the game will spoil season 4

  • One could probably enjoy the game without knowing the book or show, but the overall context of the characters and their conflict will make a lot more sense if you know the source material.

  • If you watch the show up to the 4th season I think you would definitely find it more enjoyable.

  • Might be cool to see the characters from this angle before you see them on the show or in the books. Do it... Lol.

  • It was for me. Ramsay was clearly a head case before he met Ethan, but it completely shocked me when he just brutally murdered him like that.

  • I don't really have much interest in TV shows. I prefer playing games or watching a movie personally.

Once you've learnt the basis of this universe and how it works, I was fine personally. I mean, look at Ramsay for example. Your first encounter with him tells you he's insane.

  • Yeah I've already got one such site. The lead times, though, are tedious. I was hoping there was a site run by whichever company produced the series where the episodes were hosted. At least the first season or something. Guess not though :p

  • If you want that option, you'll have to wait until HBO Go starts offering their sub service.
