I'm bored. Here are some of my favorite LIS 2 fanarts:

  • Happy Birthday Sean. ☺🎉🎈🎂🐺

  • So I watched a let's play this game for the first time overall the last three days and finally saw what people felt the need to compare to Telltale--for better or for worse.

I'll start off by reposting these brief documentations and hopefully come back with fuller thoughts and a pseudo review/impression

So I'm watching Life is Strange for the first time and I gotta say, these graphics are--whoo! Seeing that Max's notebook listed 2013 is really saying something cause man, some of these seniors and teachers look like lower res GTA IV characters. And that's if they're lucky--above the middle is an ascot guy with a Fortnite haircut and just above the lower tier is a round girl with fuckin frosting for hair.

Plus, the lipsynching, if you can call it that, wasn't much better than a nutcracker with lockjaw on the teacher and Daniel weirds me out for a number of reasons despite his model actually looking alright.

Some of this subject matter is also a bit offbeat, even knowing about the rewind mechanic and the tense relationship at the apparent center of the story's conflict. That note thanking a girl for a porn video is one thing already, but how is there a drug deal gone bad in the first fifteen minutes?

P.S. How can you know Prism?

    Update 2
Oh geez, that questionable bong image is actually in the game!! Wtf

    Update 3
I just finished episode 4 of Life of Strange...wtf
EDIT: Powering to the ending halfway through episode 5. Can anyone link me to any relevant threads?

    Update 4
Wow, must've just been a slow day. Anyway, I'm finished and don't know if I'm following up on the series. I'll give it an 7.5, leave this here for now, and call it.

  • This is what I was leaving earlier.

  • So one of the only things I understood about this game for the longest time, aside from being about lesbian hipster girls and apparently the potential destruction of a beach, is that it was compared Telltale's The Walking Dead Game. Which was an interesting parallel to draw, as it implies that the two game share enough of a storytelling style and gameplay framework to be equivocal. And boy are they, with Life is Strange sporting a clearer plotline that is generally told through sets of determinant conversations with it's cast that are similarly relaxed if choppy in flow at times, not to mention the major choices that you are given percentages for at the end of the episode.

Overall, I think this is a good game with an okay quality to it in that I'm sure the full product is enjoyable, but the way it comes together can be... lax a chunk of the time. I'm sure this is down to a combination of the staggering down to earth dialogue exchanges, not being able to play it for myself, and the mistake of potentially blending it. For context I originally wasn't going to give, I watched this game on YouTube via GTlive playthrough and thus 80% of my takeaway is going to be from my three day binge of that; I had actually looked into getting the game myself, for what its worth, but the nearest Gamestop simply didn't have a lot of games I was interested in for much of this year. I have skimmed a bit of other information from the wiki and two small reviews, but otherwise have not looked further into it.

I mostly stand by what I said about the presentation when I first started the game, albeit with arguably more reason to complain since I learned this isn't a questionably polished indie game from 2013, but rather one from 2015 that had Square Enix involved. How the hell did they let this game with GTA IV(a 2008 game, for the record) tier models out the door? Like, I realize there's stylization and its own aging to contend with, but the Walking Dead Game came out in 2012 with a more consistent quality despite the other shit it had to texture; hell, Batman Arkham Asylum is a 2907 action game about wax mannequins and it still might have a more pleasing look. I am aware Remember Me was a far more ambitious production that forced Dontnod onto a budget with it's low sales, but I don't think maintaining some more elegance across more than six models(one of which you barely get to see, mind) would've killed em.

Anyway, yeah, the character models in this can feel like a more grounded game of "spot the main characters" with how well made these character models are. Make no mistake, main characters like Max, Chloe, and Warren(F) do look really good with or without the washed out texturing(does it count as that), as they practically look like real "boney assed" people. It's a little before we get to the edge of who might count that this begins downgrading in finesse and the animations in this are slow and vaguely robotic to start. I can't go into detail for a few reasons, but let's just say there is a scene in the game where several characters are together and in hindsight, I probably could have predicted a certain twist just by noting what character easily has the second best character model.

If you have not experienced the game up to this point and are interesting in doing so, this paragraph is where to get out as I go into detail about my experience with the game. A quick synopsis in order to help contextualize what's going on with this story drive game: Maxine Caulfield is a now legal private student with an interest in photography. One day in the middle of a boring lecture from her famed teacher Mr Jefferson, she has a prophetic dream about a tornado that threatens Arcadia Bay. Upon waking up and almost failing to dodge turning in her project, she ends up bearing witness to a literal drug deal gone bad between delinquent punk Chloe Price and prestigious silver spoon Nathan Prescott when she discovers that she has time travel powers. After saving her and barely getting away thanks to her science goober Warren, she catches up with her troubled childhood friend and come to realize just how strange life is in. With knowledge of both of her new powers and understanding the imminent threat of the storm, Max spends the week trying to solve every problem she can in Arcadia Bay, including the mystery of Rachel Amber's disappearance.

This plot is conceptually sound, with a clear set of overarching goals and an intriguing power set with which to have it unfold. But to get the first criticism out of the way, how these storylines are progressed can feel like a game of pick up sticks with a player that can be a little forgetful. Characters that are supposed to be the main sources of conflict can disappear for 60% of an episode, while others end up looking like little more than supporting characters with how little they're allowed to do. The last two episodes are pretty laughable in this regard since, on top of certain events that dominate portions of their individually long runtime, they have to bring back a lot of characters who varyingly asserted themselves in the early game back when you quite possibly forgot about or flat out missed them. The reveal at the end of episode 4 sorta pissed me off in part because of this issue making it easy to go, "Where the fuck did this come from?"

As a trip the TV tropes page highlighted, this game has a lot of characters for the overall story it tells and the way it comes together. In addition to my usual reasons for visiting the site, I had the secondary objective of just remembering the names of half of these people. Outside of the main ten, you have almost twice as many side characters plus a handful of unnamed bit characters filling out the cast. As I'll get into with each of the characters I want to talk about, this game might have benefited from just combining some of its characters to make them a little easier to remember.

(To be continued; ask questions if you're curious)

Ok I have recently finished LIS 1 and before the storm and I have a question. I was wondering if it's possible for square enix to make season three of this game following Max or Max and Chloe (based on the first season's last choice), with the greatness of the original game I'm sure there are many people who would like to see what happened to Max and Chloe after leaving Arcadia Bay. And if there's gonna be a season 3 what would the story be? I personally want to see what happened to Max after leaving. So please tell me anything you know:)

  • You could always look at the comic that follows the Max and Chloe destroy the town ending.

  • Kinda forgot about this, ngl. And this was before the year ended, too.

Say, how should spoilers for the first game be handled at this point?

  • Theres been a few rumors about LIS and it seems LIS3 is probably going to be announced in March at an Xbox event. Contains a new cast like LIS2.

But apparently there has been rumors of an actual Chloe and Max sequel game but not nearly as much as what the LIS3 rumors are.

  • Okay, I made sure not to veer backward specifically in the event I decide to look into the sequel, for whatever reason.

I did later see Before the Storm, incidentally, and it's kinda better if awkward in some ways. How long was that planned, considering one of the characters involved?

  • Okay, that makes a good amount of sense considering a chunk of the content, but not so much considering Rachel clearly had a high quality model prepared for her photo in the original.

  • Yeah, my smallest gripe is the way it's written as a prequel, but it acts like it's developing the characters as if this was a sequel, which leads to some weird inconsistencies if you try to think about it. My biggest gripe, though, is how it's so close to being good at times and then throws in dumb curveballs, my most hated being the twist with Rachel's dad, they set up a nice morally grey complex situation between him and his previous wife... and then they smash it by having him hire a drug dealer to murder her... it's fucking weird and bad, I was so disappointed by this that I have actually been constantly making my own original story that borrows elements of that plot idea in my head for the past few years. I've debated on whether or not I want to actually write it down. But yeah, basically I was so disappointed by the story I made my own original creation, lmao (I do want to stress that it is not fan fiction, though).

  • Yeah, that's what I thought you meant and it really showed. The previously mentioned Fortnite dude and Nathan plus his Hinata are the biggest offenders of that.

Also, I thought it was mentioned that Mr. Amber explicitly didn't want Sera hurt, just convinced to stop her pursuit, but Damon betrayed him with the intention of making her appear to suddenly overdose?

  • Huh. They must've had another conversation or something off screen then, cause the recent text messages seemed pretty clear

That and the junkyard went so bad explicitly because Damon was full on "Fuck Amber," so it didn't seem that hard to believe from a guy who can apparently break Mikey's arm for the sake of it

Man now that this thread was bumped it reminded me I finished LIS2 last March. Time sure went by fast. I still really liked that game and if anyone else is even a bit interested I would really recommend you play it. It isnt a perfect game and it has a bit of a slow burn especially in eps 1 and 2, but I found myself very attached to Sean and Daniel's story and its a game I find myself thinking about a lot more than I ever thought I would.

I do hope LIS3 is closer to the quality of LIS2 and even LIS1 as I found myself pretty disappointed with Dontnods Tell Me Why. TMW kinda gave me "direct to DVD" vibes which I guess it kinda was. I think the saddest thing about TMW is that it had a really cool location and characters that could def be in a great story, but the actual narrative was pretty flat, so it was a bit of a bummer to be playing a game with so much potential but doesn't really do that much but tell a stake-less story. (I mean really looking back at TMW, there are literally 0 stakes in the plot.) It seems likely that LIS3 is going to be made by Deck 9 though, so I hope they can make something similar to LIS2 and I hope Dontnod (if its true are working on LIS4 staring Max and Chloe) can make another really solid game.

    Anyway, weird ramble. tl;dr lis2 = good

Oh right, I hope the sequel to Max and Chloe story be made after the LIS 3 like Before The Storm after LIS 1. I think the sequel to their story would be more interesting than the LIS 3 and new characters.

Well I've been immensely disappointed in the first 3 games in the series, but maybe this time it will be different.

Despite my feelings on this series, for those that do enjoy it, hope it's good, for your sake.

  • Welp, they did mention how they weren't done with LiS a few months ago... (I'm honestly surprised, I didn't think the sequel was too financially successful. Maybe Squeenix still had faith in the IP.)

I'm not expecting anything too groundbreaking in the French-adults-write American-teens saga... Unless the new one is set in France. But I've heard the second game at least had a great ending for the choices/consequences aspect... That I have yet to check out.

Hopefully this time they won't bungle their ideas. Tell Me Why gives me a bit of hope in that regard. Though the rumors are saying Deck Nine might be making it which... uh, I have several bones to pick with Before the Storm.

  • It will be lilkely a Deck Nine game not Dontnod. So I doubt they have that problem.

  • I think it's called True Colors? And has an asian american protag. That's cool.
