Back on topic, how would Doctor Who translate into an adventure?
He's not exactly prone to collecting the items he comes across as the characters of other games might be unless its a plot device.
To add a system like that would be a huge break from any of the characters of the doctors on screen. (Unless one of them was something of a kleptomaniac. The only Doctor I'm old enough to remember was Sylvester McCoy and I'm his only fan in the role).
I think a clue system can be put in place that doesn't rely on inventory all the time but I don't think we can really have a 'note book' similar to that of Lewton on DW Noir.
it could explore the time period between the classic and new series. aka the time war and what caused his regeneration there. on the inventory, look at indiana jones. did he ever go around picking up all kinds of things? didnt think so.
Actually, i'm pretty sure the inventory could work, since the Doctor does collect all kinds of junk, we just never see him do it. In one Tom Baker story he gets shot by a Sontaran, but survives...due to him having one bit of junk he got from the previous story blocking the shot! Fact is, Doctor Who is FULL of cheeky moments like that: another reason why it's so great, and another reason why Telltale NEEDS to make games based on it asap!
EDIT: btw, you can tell i'm a doctor who fan, can't ya?

Time War's a bit touchy
best say a whole new story either classic or new. Plus like Guybrush, the Doctor could fit heaps in his pockets as he says in the Runaway Bride that his pockets are bigger on the inside.
Rather than having an inventory of items that our klepto characters acquire, I think more adventures should have inventories of 'clues'. This is what was done in Discworld Noir; you used the character's notebook to list clues. These could be combined with other clues, objects and people for you to reach conclusions in Lewton's cases.
Such an 'inventory' wouldn't have to take the form of an item that corresponds with the character (hence why I'm referring to it as an inventory of clues).
(I'm a little sad to see that more adventure games didn't take on this system but, then again, the genre was already on the verge of collapse when DW Noir was released, so it's not too surprising).
Such a system would probably work very well for the doctor.
The idea of TTG doing a Doctor Who game has been sitting in the back of my mind for ages and I had this idea for it....
Assuming such a game could run for 2 seasons; why not have 1 Doctor per episode? The premise could be that a something occurs within each of his incarnations that he slowly begins to realise are not just connected but are all part of a very long game that somebody is playing with him.
Naturally the actors who portrayed the first three doctors have passed away (including all 3 of the actors who played the first doctor) and would, therefore, have to be played by voice doubles.
Shit, I just remembered how the zealous history the BBC has had with copy protection; they've even tried lobbying to make it law that they get a fraction of all ISP subscription fees paid in the UK because (for some reason I can't fathom) they believe that the majority of all internet users here use BBCi.
(What does it mean when a company that is already the biggest in its country still has delusions of grandeur?)
TellTale, on the other hand, is known for having the least painful DRM on its games around. (At least this is the consensus among other users on the TTG forums but we could be biased).
It's one of the SyFy channel's biggest shows when it's on. Not saying much considering most of their big shows have been cancelled or wrapped up. It's also pretty huge on BBCAmerica, which is actually getting to be a fairly popular channel over here (gotta love Top Gear).
Speaking from my circle of friends, most of them watch it from time to time and all of them have heard of it.
Personally, it's my favorite show and i own the entire revised series on dvd as well as a good deal of the original stuff.
Off topic: I despise Jeremey Clarkson. He is a despicable man who gets paid vast amounts of money and all he does is act like a xenophobic (among other things) idiot which people think is 'cool'. Basically: anyone can do his job as long as they can badmouth someone. Ahem. Oh and I'm English.
On topic: A Doctor Who game by TellTale would be awesome. As would a Red Dwarf game. If TellTale are trying to get hold of the IP I say good luck to them!
I can't ever imagine them scoring the intellectual property without heaping over HUGE sums of money (and I mean of ridiculous proportions) as it's been owned by the BBC for 46 years. A change in hands (especially to a foreign company) would be asking for trouble.
I think, at best, we're talking gaming rights with the final say in creative control of BBC Wales.
Telltale should partner up with the BBC to license Hitchhiker's Guide and Dr. Who, and make a mashup/crossover series that takes place in a combined universe. It would be the most fantastic thing in the world.
Depending on how you read *certain* lines, it can be argued that HHGTTG and Doctor Who already take place in the same universe. It helps, of course, that Douglas Adams worked on both!
Given the mentions of the HHGTTG game from Infocom: It's less well-known that Douglas Adams worked on a second Infocom title, Bureaucracy. It's similarly lunatic, if (for me) a poorer game.

i never said they had to do the whole thing...just one aspect or something...nothing earthshattering...and there could be a stipulation where bbc has to approve the storyline

Good to know! Now that I think of it, I read somewhere that Adams's basic storyline for the third Hitchhiker's Guide novel was originally written to be a Dr. Who film, but as he wrote it, he found it felt more like a Guide story.
So yes, very close ties there. If they don't make the game in the next few years, I'll make it my own goal

Also even though Tom Baker is alive and is doing alot of voice work, he may or may not do it but still is a chance. Plus the first 2 doctors in Doctor Who: Destiny of the Doctors were the only ones dubbed. Plus 3rd Doctor were just voice clips from the show.
Also Peter Davison said to me wasn't him but voice clips from the show or maybe he just can't remember
If I had to choose, I'd say it's a tie between the 1st, 3rd or 4th doctor for me. They could do so much with the idea--having the doctor meet previous incarnations, etc.

Yeah but there has been already too many Doctor cross-over stories which icluding the expanded uinverse.

Didn't the Doctor put a coffee mug in his pockets in The Power of Krall?
Also, there's a world (or, many worlds) of possibility with Dr. Who & TTG. It wouldn't be difficult to supplant the horrible Doctor releases of the past. The first five episodes: Daleks, Cybermen, the Master, Saurons, and, well, I forget any other recurring enemies, not that new ones would be bad.
Off Topic; how do you guys feel about Jeremy Clarkson?
Off Topic: Speaking for my circle of friends, we like him okay. We sorta look at the whole Top Gear crew as sort of one entity (they each play off of each other, sort of thing).
Granted, Top Gear is the only thing we know him from (a few of us recall Richard from Brainiac which was broadcast over here for a little while) and the constant American's-are-all-fat-hillbillies thing does get a bit vexing. But we (my friends and I) love the show too much to really mind.
Is he really that bad and we just don't see it?
On Topic: Not sure if i mentioned it in my last post, but i imagine a Doctor Who adventure game doing moderately well over here. There's been a bit of a resurgence in adventure games' popularity as of late in the States. Not only are old time Schafer fans excited about Brutal Legend but the mainstream is really tuning in as well. Also, Steam just dropped a bunch of old Lucasarts games this morning, including The Fate of Atlantis, which was also an unlockable in the latest Indiana Jones game. And i know plenty of people buzzing about the XBLA Monkey Island release.
I can't ever imagine them scoring the intellectual property without heaping over HUGE sums of money (and I mean of ridiculous proportions) as it's been owned by the BBC for 46 years. A change in hands (especially to a foreign company) would be asking for trouble.

How come? They licensed the damn thing out for a rubbishy Top Trumps game after all!
Seriously, since it became big news again the Beeb has had not worries about defiling the property. Fans don't care either because they hide behind the fact that nothing that wasn't filmed for TV is considered canon to the main universe, ergo anything Telltale do will fit in nicely.
Finally, it would almost certainly have to feature David Tennant unless any theoretical game is more than a year away, because he's still the Doctor - nobody is going to see Matt Smith till Spring next year.
Good to know! Now that I think of it, I read somewhere that Adams's basic storyline for the third Hitchhiker's Guide novel was originally written to be a Dr. Who film, but as he wrote it, he found it felt more like a Guide story.
There's also a fair bit of crossover between Shada (Planned but never finished Tom Baker Who story, eventually made into an audio with McGann) and Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. Douglas Adams did have a bit of a tendency to be a bit freewheeling with his plotlines!

I was, once again, commenting on the exact language of the person I was quoting. (I have a tendency to take things completely literally). I've always looked at IPs as entire the entire rights 'bundle' to something.
But you are right and, taking the guy literally I went off on a tangent that not even I agree with; the BBC have licensed the 'Doctor Who' name to all kinds of things; at least 2 card games, a spin-off kids show, a crappy adult spin-off (although Children of Earth hasn't exactly been terrible, so far) and numerous books which nobody seems certain of their place in the Doctor Who Canon.
I don't see a problem with the BBC licensing this product, but I still think they'll have a real problem with TTG's cool attitude towards DRM.
Didn't the Doctor put a coffee mug in his pockets in The Power of Krall?

Invasion of Time is probably my favorite episode.
He even had a robot santa remote control, banana, 3D glasses, sonic screwdriver and more.
If they do bring back the Cybermen, I don't want the Cybus ones. I want the Mondas ones but of course with a new look.

But we now know with greater certainty that a planet so far away would be too cold to sustain life so similar to earth. The origin from the David Tennant story line was a way of creating a new 'batch' of Cybermen without making an overly problematic retcon.
In Torchwood Cpt. Jack explained that Cybermen often begin 'upgrading' planets infiltrating them in a similar way to how Ianto Jones's girlfriend (who was partially converted into a [very sexy] cyberman used him to lure unsuspecting victims for "upgrade". The people Ianto sent to her were specialists in robotics and cybernetics who may have been able to help restore her humanity).
While nothing has been said to confirm or deny if this is the case it seems possible that this is how John Lumic, owner of 'Cybus Industries' in the parallel world was the [willing] victim of these tactics, as was Miss Hartigan in the 2008 christmas special, "The Next Doctor".
I am not obsessed with Doctor Who, I just have a memory for obscure details and a tendancy to look up those which I don't remember as well.
I'm from Canada and I remember watching some old black and white Doctor Who episodes when I was a kid. The new series is shown here too. But yeah, it never had the impact here that it did in the UK. Let's just say that it's not as big as Star Trek by a long shot (Hey, there's an idea, Telltale... ).
Having said that, I think it would be a great property for Telltale to tackle, as long as the Daleks make an appearance. EX-TER-MIN-ATE!!

I think that, by the time it was cancelled, Star Trek may have become more popular. I think that, now it's back, Star Trek is just remembered as something to pass the time until it came back :P

They've been in every series since the show returned. Being defeated so regularly has made them lose a lot of the fear that used to make children all over the country hide behind the sofa.

Let's not have TTG contribute to the overdose.
Yeah, but like I said Doctor Who is not popular over here and the Daleks are not known by very many people in NA.
