Does Anyone Else Feel...
Like gaming isn't as fun as it used to be? I got an Xbox One for Christmas, and while I'm enjoying some games, I just don't have that feeling of excitement when I play games. I've been playing the Halo 2 campaign and multiplayer on Halo MCC and it's the most fun I've ever had in gaming. What happened to that enjoyment? It feels like gaming isn't about fun anymore. There are countless Youtube videos of little kids and idiot teenagers raging and trolling on Xbox Live, mocking other people so that they look good. These days it seems like people are fighting each other, trying to prove that they're superior. What the fuck happened?
And my next issue is with game developers, particularly Ubisoft. Assassin's Creed Unity feels like the devs made some 100% dumb choices that just make things a chore for both players and game developers. There's so much stuff littering the map that I have to use a filter to see what I'm doing. The customization is good, I'll give them that, but there are so many different forms of in-game currency that it's hard to keep track of them. Why is all this necessary? AC 2 and Brotherhood only had one form of currency in-game, and it worked really well. Now, it seems like you don't get the good stuff unless you put hours into it. I feel like I'm a toddler being punished by a parent.
And a companion app? Really Ubisoft? A COMPANION APP. Why? It adds nothing to the game, and it's a free app, so who is benefiting from this app? These damn Nomad chests are everywhere, and they're IN THE GAME already! Why should anyone have to get a companion app for content that is already in the game? I barely tolerate paid DLC.
Okay, I know I ranted a lot about Unity, but it's a very good example of what I think is wrong with gaming these days. Oh, and microtransactions. I PAID for the fucking game. Give me everything you put in the game! It's like paying five bucks for a pepsi and having the clerk pour half of it out and saying, "You can get a full can of you pay another dollar!" I already paid for the bloody thing, so give me the full item!
Anyway, I just think that gaming has become more about money and showing off than having a good time. Let me know what you guys think about this industry these days.

Haha...No.
Maybe you're just growing up? Nah, that can't be it!
Companies are trying to make money, and a few of them have discovered that nickel-and-diming the players seems to make more than just selling the thing outright. If you don't like that, research the games in advance, and avoid the ones that do that.
Blame the team that made AC:U, not ubisoft itself.
Far Cry 4 is one of the most egalitarian games I've ever player.
Publishers have some power over what goes into the game they have the publishing rights to. If they didn't, then EA wouldn't be able to screw over loyal customers.
...but the publisher and the developer are in the exact same company in the case.
And Far Cry 4 wasn't nearly as shit, technically and morally, as AC5 so it can;t have been all to do with ubisoft.
You are so right ,GAMING TODAY SUCKS BECAUSE THERE IS NO TWAU SEASON 2!!!!!! IT SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
jk about that but it might be because gaming today is like how it was a few years ago, The Tech is getting newer but game wise you might be thinking you're old of the same type of game and want something you haven't seen before.
Far Cry 4 was amazing, and they WERE different teams. I refuse to believe that the same people who made Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, made AC: Unity.
I'm not talking about Far Cry 4. I'm talking about AC. It was one of the biggest games this year and they blew it. And while Ubisoft might not be at complete fault, you can't deny they had a part in Unity falling short.
Actually Unity is a pretty damn good game, in my opinion. Yes, they fucked up somewhat with glitches and stuff at launch, but, they have since fixed them with a big update. I have had hardly any issues with it and the plot of the game is very interesting, being set during the French Revolution (one of the most fascinating eras in history).
Nope, I don't feel that at all. I think gaming is the one of the most fun things you can do (and you can also learn things from it too, like history in Assassin's Creed, for example.)
Isn't that one of the reason that best-selling games got the critical acclaim that they did? The first Halo broke sales records upon release. It wasn't like anything people had seen in the past. There's GTA as well. True, it took a few years to get off the ground, but it made some big changes when it came to game design. So yeah, that's part of it.
It's called** maturing**. The best way to waste your life is by playing videogames 90% of the time.
Find something else to do.
I don't play video games 90% of the time. I work hard in school, I get my homework done, I give thought to my future. But gamiñ means something to me. It's something that's made my life a lot better and I don't want it to disintegrate into just another way to make money.I'm sure if you saw something like this happen to your hobby, you wouldn't be happy about it.
But obviously you don't play a game like Assassin's Creed to study history. I'll admit that I got interested in history thanks in part to Assassin's Creed, but the version of history aren't truth. They're edited versions of history that use some events and motives that aren't 100% known.
Well its just for that, for me, history is fun as well as informative. But I'm sure you understand what I was trying to say. Anyway, we got differing opinions, and that's all good.
The problem is that so many companies are doing it. It's hard to find really good games.
Yeah, I can see what you meant. I love history too, and it's how Assassin's Creed keeps me excited for the next game. That's why I was so upset over Unity. They had a real chance to make this work great, and the idea of co-op missions was brilliant. Kudos to the guy who thought of it. It's just that games these days seem to waste so much potential, and even when people speak out against it, nothing changes.
Gaming has been going down the toilet because companies are all about maximizing profits nowadays. Everything now is either DLC DLC DLC or some retarded useless gimmick that adds nothing to the overall enjoyment of a game. I grew up in the golden days of halo1/2 multiplayer and Vanilla World of Warcraft and kept telling myself "I can't wait to see how amazing games will be 10 years from now". Who would have thought activision and call of duty were going to destroy gaming like this.
Thank God someone sees what I mean.
If it's called "Maturing" then how come an original and innovative game like "This War of Mine" made me feel the same excitement I felt when I was young and had all these great games at my disposal?
This War Of Mine looks really good. I might buy it. By the way Clem, whats your Steam user name? I'm not sure if I have added you or not.
I agree about Activision and Call of Duty. But overall, I think games today are just as good as they have ever been.
The online stuff was fixed before I got the game, so I'm not complaining too much. It's the stuff þat's permanent that bothers me. I'm the type of person who wants to do everything that's in a game, and Ubisoft made it near'y impossible to do so.
Nope
Why can't I?
Kudos to the guy who thought of co-op missions? Haha, they're hardly an original idea!
[removed]
They published the game and owned the studio that made the game! What pn earth was stopping them?
Still a good idea though.
Both games had the same publishers, both games had different teams.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out the teams are most responsible, especially on bug issues.
Well I still think some blame should go Ubisoft Montreal (the studio that made Unity) for not being able to handle two projects at once.
Ah now blaming ubisoft montreal is an entirely different thing to blaming ubisoft.
Regardless, there are two different teams at ubisoft montreal as Far cry 4 was also made by that same studio. Just blame the team that made the game itself primarily. They're definitely to blame for the moral issues and bugs.
No, the best way to waste your life is doing drugs.
My point is that at some point broken games became far too common. Is nobody else at all tired of this?
Oh good it's the guy ...who got me banned .Just stay away . Alright...
Well for one . I wouldn't call it an hobby. Just a source of entertainment.
"Maturing" is not complaining about other [innocent] people's lifestyles. "Maturing" is minding your own buisness.
I didn't 'get you banned': you broke the forum guidelines and mods read through the thread in which you broke them.
It's called growing up. Sucks, don't it?
To each their own.
