You do know that depression isn't just having a few problems in life? It's not like that at all. Search up some of sprocket's comments. I think he describes I very well. It's hard, and I mean VERY hard. So is it really selfish to end your life when you're in that much pain?
Honestly, I think it's incredibly selfish to purposely check out of life early, or to knowingly shorten your life by abusing drugs and alcoh… moreol. To think about how many people there are who never made it out of their adolescent years due to freak accidents, how many people there are who sacrificed their life for the greater good even though they had plans for later on in life, those who died due to terminal illnesses that were beyond their control but fought until the very end, the people that were maliciously and unjustly murdered by the disgusting scum of the world, all those people who never even made it out of the womb..suicide is just such an ungrateful cop out, regardless of how many problems you're having in life currently. Not to mention there are people that love you who will be forced to live on with the thought that a person they held dear to their heart couldn't take it anymore and opted out for suicide. I'm very sorry for your loss, but I do want to point out that enjoyment and addiction are different. If you had the things you enjoy in life most, the things or people that make you happy, then I'd imagine it would take it's toll on you.
For the drugs part, I don't think society should allow people to use them just because it makes them happy (apart from more harmless drugs l… moreike marijuana). I had a cousin (Note: had) who was addicted to heroin, and he would steal from friends, family, and even rob houses to support his habit. He'd get violently angry when he was off his high. I went to an outpatient center where I met a lot of teens who were suffering from drug abuse, and the stories were similar. It seriously does affect other people. How many people have been killed from drug deals gone wrong, overdosing, rival sellers, ect?
I'm not saying depression isn't hard. Trust me, I have witnessed what it can do to a person. Depression is like perpetual darkness, with not even an inkling of light to be seen. Like you're sinking into a void, and the more you struggle the harder it is to get out. It's not even being able to give a damn about what happens to you or your body, believing that nobody would care if you just disappeared, that you don't even constitute as a person. But the truth that all people who suffer from depression need to know is that it's all in your head. More often than not the problems you're facing aren't as menacing and unbeatable as you're making them out to be. There's a reason for the saying "We're our own worst enemies". Life is going to get hard. That's just reality. But that is no excuse to check out, no matter how much pain you're in. As I said in the beginning of my post, it is really selfish for you to treat your life as though it's meaningless. To willingly throw your life away like it's trash is beyond selfish, especially when there are so many people who left this world against their will, who would gladly take your place if they were able to. You don't just give up and take the coward's way out. No, you keep moving forward, you drag yourself if you have to. Don't let depression take your life, for one day you'll wake up and realize you have beaten it, and you will be thankful that you didn't give in.

I've lost family and good friends to both, and I hate seeing people slowly deteriorate to the state of taking their own life. Its just that I've had first hand accounts of suicide and drugs, as just recently my cousin tried to take her own life. I don't condone it, but in the same sends I don't condemn it. I've know some people who've been involved in drugs and alcohol that are just flat out great people. But me personally, I'll never do drugs for more than one reason.
I also hold some hate towards smokers, but only certain ones. The smokers that blow smoke in your face are the worst, I appreciate when people don't smoke near me as inhaling smoke is pretty bad for me. I don't really have a problem with people who drink, as long as they keep it reasonable.

The article dose bring up some good points. I can agree that it the responsibility of the user to look after and care for themselves. And if people are responsible enough, the rate for harm dose decrease. In most instances responsibly is key. And like I stated earlier, I've known drug users who were great people. To me it not 'if you do drugs or not' to me its more 'can you control the drug and not let the drug control you'
That's okay. What I meant by my original point was that if the person makes the choice to use drugs after plenty of thought and knowing the risks, then I think that's acceptable.

Thank you for sharing that article.
Well just based on the title of your topic, my response is: "A healthy body equals a healthy mind."
When you do physical exercise, which can come in the form of physical labor, not only does your body become stronger, but it also supplies more oxygen to your bloodstream, which your brain in turn feeds on, and the more amounts of oxygen your brain has, the better it'll be able to function.
Plus, physical exercise releases endorphins, which is a feel good chemical, that improves your brains mood, and will in turn improve a person's outlook.
I personally do not approve of suicide, nor of drug use.
Suicide is a waste.
And it's also completely selfish, as you leave behind the people that love and care about you.
My cousin did that to my Grand Uncle and Aunt, who had raised him, and they were devastated.
In fact, my Grand aunt was never the same afterward, and she died two years later.
My Uncle filled her about 4 years later.
And all that could've been prevented if my Cousin had thought about someone other than himself.
If you don't like something about your life, change it.
If you don't like the direction your life is taking, change it.
You alone are responsible for what you do with your life, no-one else is.
No-one can sit down and make your decisions for you, those are things you have to do yourself.
That, in fact, is what being an adult is about, doing things on your own, taking care of yourself.
Using drugs, whether be either illegal narcotics, or alcohol abuse, is quite frankly for cowards.
I know that to be true, as I've been there and done it, and I can honestly tell you that the basic reason people do those things, is because they are to afraid to face whatever problems they have.
Instead of facing them and doing something about it, they'd rather hide.
Now granted, it's hard to break free of addiction, and if you've never been there, you just don't how difficult it is.
Before a person can quit their habit, they have to first identify what makes them turn to it in the first place, what triggers them to engage in such destructive behavior.
And after they have done so, then they can begin to break their habit.
But in order to successfully do so, they first have to be 100% committed to the process of both identifying their triggers, and then actually quitting their habit.
Anything less, and they'll never break free.
It's that simple!
And for any kids on here, who may perhaps be experimenting with drugs and/or alcohol, or who may be thinking about it, I'm telling you honestly that it's not worth it.
Sure it might appear to be fun, but remember that every decision, whether it's a good decision or a bad one, has consequences to it, and there's no way to get around that.
And you will face the consequences of your actions, whether they are good or bad.
That's the way it is!
That's true, gaming addiction does indeed exist.
In fact, I read a report that in Europe, they actually have clinics specifically designed to help people break free of gaming addiction.
Gaming addiction is a very real, and very serious problem, whether people want to believe it or not.
It is just as destructive as either alcohol or drug addiction, as it can lead to people wasting their lives.
Gaming addiction exists as well. The correlation with my example is that in both cases, the person is doing the same to others that they are… more doing to themselves. The thoughts "I don't care about my own body" and "I don't care about other people's bodies" are from the same type of thinking. They just apply to different people.
Well really it would depend for me it would depend on how the drugs or alcohol were affecting the person. For example, a small consumption of alcohol is not gonna make you attack people. Why would a small consumption of a drug? I would make my decision based on how mentally stable and how rationally thinking the person is. I think there can be a healthy balance.
EDIT: Also, I apologize for my wording of that statement. I only used that to illustrate my confusion at how you came to that idea. I didn't mean any offence by it.
Like I said, there can be a healthy balance and I think that if the person is indeed happy with their life (because with an addiction, you're never happy, just temporarily satisfied) and nobody's getting hurt by it, then I see no reason to interfere.

Suicide isn't right. It's selfish, regardless of how terrible what you're going through is. I've had suicidal thoughts before, it isn't fun. But i sought help, and now I'm happier than ever. I have also had family members attempt suicide, but we helped her out of this. If you're going to commit suicide, there are people out there who care about you. My favourite phrase is "you can leave depression, but you can't leave death". If you feel sad and depressed, just remember that life changes and so do emotions. To get rid of sadness, you need happiness. Be happy, be helpful because, you know: karma.
So, about drugs... I don't hate them, but I dislike them. People get addicted because they take drugs. Addiction sucks. Addiction will take you to a location that you will regret.
