GOG.com games - Tex Murphy Series

edited July 2009 in General Chat
In case some of you are fans of the Tex Murphy series - Under a Killing Moon + The Pandora Directive + Overseer, then you can now get them at gog.com :D

Well, for now it's UAKM + the first two Mean Streets and Martians Memorandum.

I liked UaKM back when it came out, but I suspect that game has not aged very well... Never played Pandora Directive and Overseer, though. Were they any good?

Actually UAKM and Pandora are the best of the 3. In fact my favorite is UAKM. :)
Overseer is actually - or sort of - a remake of the first two Mean Streets and Martians Memorandum - it shows how it all began.

And yes - they are all very good. They are still on many adventure players Top Ten lists :D

Hooray! UAKM is a huge influence with my work in game design.

I never got a chance to grab a copy of Overseer, but have everything else. I'll have to check back to the site often for when they'll post it.

Just one thing Seg - it's probably not the DVD version of it with the better graphics.

I don't see how it wouldn't be the "DVD" version considering it's a 2.4GB game.

My version came on four CDs, which corresponds pretty well with 2.4GB.

Edit: I'm talking about UaKM, while you are talking about Overseer, so never mind...

I've been a fan ever since "Mean Streets" (Although I somehow missed Martian Memorandum). Overseer was good, but Pandora Directive was really the pinnacle of the series for me.

The DVD has high quality videos, which - in my mind - exceeds the 2.4GB noted on that page.
Also if you look at the screenshots, you can see interlace lines, which indicates it's from the CD version. :)

To my knowledge Overseer was sort of an interlude which was supposed to be bundled with something from Intel (hence the retelling of the first two games). Sort of a contractual work.
Intel broke out of the contract so it was marketed as standalone game.
I bought a special DVD graphics hardware just to play it and never was able to really play it decently anyway. The DVD version was plagued by the fact that it was two years too early to be played by the average computer, unfortunately.

Oh well if we are with old adventures I would love to see a remake of Rise of the Dragon, an excellent but mostly overlooked game!

I noticed this. Immediately grabbed them. Terrific games!

    A little heads up :)

They now have the Pandora Directive for grabs.

    And... grabbed! :-)

i still have all these games original and boxed and played (and loved) to death. to be honest, probably my favourite adventure games next to monkey island 2 and day of the tentacle (but i have a soft spot for detective stories)

especially pandora directive, maybe because i played through it all with a friend, always fun :) and it had those fantastic cut scenes. UAKM had great puzzles though..

to be honest, never managed to get my hands on overseer... apparently its a remake of mean streets done in flashback form. really would love it but hopefully ill find the dvd version somewhere.. i remember it came out when dvds were still brand new (about as new as bluray is now)

Pandora is excellent. Overseer is not as good and UAKM or PD, but worth playing if you like the series.

And on the contrary, UAKM has aged remarkably well. Much better than most adventures of the time. Quite surprising, but it helps that they're 3D, high res, fully voiced, and have integrated hints, so they were really ahead of their time.

I might have to look into these. I remember ages ago trying to get a demo of UAKM running but never could manage it.

I already own boxed copies of all the games (even the first two... have them both on original floppies and on these compilation CDs)... but I still bought them on GoG.
It's convenient to download it from there when I want to play it, and besides... I want to support great games in my favourite genre.

They're really good, especially the last three... the first two are ok but nothing awesome.

Be warned, though.... they're pretty cheesy! Recorded a tiny clip to show just how cheesy they can be at times :D -
