What if Telltale made a game based on Al Lowe's cancelled game "Sam Suede".
No gameplay in the trailer. Actually, no info on the game too. But it is an accurate portrayal to today's videogame industry.
Actually the franchise is dorment and has been since LSL 7, no fan of the old games really considers the latest abdominations being part of the franchise, they were too bad and did not have anything in common with the old games, they were not even adventure games, nor did they have anything to do with Larry Laffer or Al Lowe!

What I mean is that Sam and Max went dead for a few years (or, more accurately, buried in England) and the interests were rebuilt.
If SaM Freelance Police did came out like it was intended, SaM Seasons 1 and 2 would've never happened, or at least, would never become as popular as it is now, since one of the reasons why it's popular is because we've missed the characters, and the gaming industry would have forgotten about our psychotic duo today.
I agree with everything you just said. Yeah, MCL and BOB were kinda like American Pie and Epic Movie, which I hate with the boiling intensity of a thousand suns.
Although they were not really Larry games the public perception is that Leisure Suit Larry is associated with those games. I think...just like Sam and Max, give it three or four years and you'll get interest in a real LSL game.
There has been interest in another "real LSL game" for many years, but the developers have failed to provide us with one. Magna Cum Laude and Box Office Bust are cheap knockoffs that should have never been made.
Personally, I don't have high hopes for another classic LSL title. I guess it would depend a lot on whether they could get Al Lowe.
From what was said at the beginning of this thread, it seems Al Lowe would be very interested in taking temporary residence in Teltales Inc.'s offices.
What will be the main problem is Sierra/Vivendi/Activision licensing it to TTI. Even though the franchise has hit rock bottom (Amazon is now selling BOB at £6!), they might well be unwilling to let go.
The main reason LucasArts let TTI have the MI licence is they're planning to make their own new MI in the next few years (maybe next year?). So they're re-releasing MI1 and letting TTI make a new one at no cost to them, just to see what the public interest is like for pirate adventure games at the moment. If the SOMI SE and TOMI sell well, they'll go ahead and make a LucasArts MI5 (otherwise it'll get shelved for another 10 years). In the current financial climate, I don't blame them for being cautious.

I agree, that's the problem in a nutshell. It doesn't matter how many hardcore long-term adventure fans protest about how the latest games "weren't really Leisure Suit Larry" - they still had his name on it, and Box Office Bust got so many bad reviews it's pretty much turned the franchise into a laughing stock, so far as the mass market goes.
I can't believe it was made by Team 17, of all people. All my fond Amiga memories - ruined!
No, no, no. I'm afraid all credibility of LSL died with the release of "those god awful" games. Nothing will ever bring it back. At least not in this generation...
As someone else has mentioned, people now will associate Leisure Suit Larry, with "Those" games.
So I think if you wait like 10 years, then it might be a good idea.
Funny thing is that one of my friends from high school and myself were talking about something like this. I could basically see LSL working out with tell-tale, as long as they can get the original larry and not his out of the blue nephew.
But I admit that I like MCL just a little bit but however when I played it for the first time when I saw all that nudity made me shocked . My friend Andre and myself were talking ideas for a larry game but we later decided to drop the idea.
I had just emailed Al Lowe myself, before I saw this thread.
He didn't exactly say he wouldn't be interested but he did seem a bit sceptical... (I hope he doesn't mind me quoting him!)
While I wish the best to those new games you mention (especially S&M, one of my all-time faves!), I'll wait until the sales figures are out. Here's hoping they make big money, because that is the ONLY way games get made today!
I told VU while they were making both games that I would love to work on either project in any capacity. You can see how interested they were. <sigh> Ah, well. Retirement is highly UNDER-rated.
He was refering to Telltale's games in the first paragraph and the LSL games made without him in the second.

Oh. The. Horror...
Remember what Peepers looked like in episode 205?
*shudder*
