Some problems I've seen lately

Very Small Hubs

Just looking at objects: We don't get a back story on it or anything. This makes HUBS very boring and fruitless

Dialogue options resulting in the same thing: This was extremely evident in GOT with the encounter with Ram Ram and the game forcing you to protect Finn. Silence is also no longer a valid option

Lack of choice/character diversity: The great thing about Bigby and Lee is that we could influence the type of person they were I'm starting to see less of that

Not being able to fail QTE's Granted the fight with Finn but it should start to play out different like the fight with Lee and Kenny

  • I agree about the hubs for GOT, looking at objects doesn't really seem to be worth doing at all really - but in TFTB the echo-eye function improves on this and is actually something I really like. I've begun to notice the dialogue thing as well, it kind of annoys me when if you replay it and pick different dialogue options you get exactly the same response as you did before. But I have to disagree with the character duality thing - I don't think there was really a way of being a total asshole with Lee (but I think that was kind of the point, you wanted him to be a nice guy and it worked for that setting), either way the ending to season 1 was still harrowing whether you'd made Lee nice to Clem or not.
I liked the fact that in TWAU a big part of the story was dependent on the way you played Bigby, whether you wanted him to be as good a Sheriff as he could be or play up to the Big Bad Wolf role that everyone expects of him. I also liked the fact that characters were constantly goading you and telling you what you were, and the option to either reply to them calmly, punch them in the face or remain menacingly silent was your way of either conforming to or defying their opinion of you. But ultimately, it didn't matter what you did in the end because the characters that mattered (like Snow) still reacted in the same way after it was all over.
I love the fact that in TFTB, it really feels as though you have a lot more freedom to be a jerk - partly because nobody really expects any better of you since that's kind of the way things work in Borderlands, and partly because it often has quite funny consequences. Even though Rhys and Fiona aren't going around beating people up, you can still make them real assholes if you want to, and because it's such a light-hearted game compared to the previous two, it's a lot more fun.

Sounds like you'd enjoy Dreamfall Chapters.

  • The thing is at the end of the day you couldn't influnce what kind of person Bigby is. He's bound to a canon set version of him so no matter how merciful you played him he will always end up the same. I think that Telltale is trying to build it different for the PC's in Tales and Thrones to match more of Lee's personality change.

  • Yes he is canon but I felt Telltale worked good with it. I think we had more control over Big Bad Bigby than cute little Clementine

  • God god you don't want to fail those QTEs, the Telltale engine can't handle it. My game and several others I have seen, has the game freak the hell out and lag/stutter when trying to re-load up those fighting sequences (in all games). It gets so bad that you'll get stuck in a loop of dying and loading the QTE event.

I hate to say this, but maybe Telltale needs more time in developing these episodes to get some real good hubs/consequences from choices.

Then they do that and people complain it's taking too long.

  • That game is so good, at least so far. Can't wait for the second episode on March 10th. :)
