Can straight men and women be just friends, in the real world?
I use think so.
But lately I've been questioning that.
What do you think?
UPDATE: I think it's possible. But the only way to do so, is to view that them as like a member of the family.

I'm a female and my best friend is male. Neither of us have developed feelings for each other and we both have significant others (neither of which are jealous of our friendship). We love each other, but it's purely platonic.
Of course, I have some both irl and here, being friends with the opposite sex is just the same.
Of course, just like AWESOMEO above, I have a few in real life and a bit here, there are many people around my community of the opposite sex that are just friends.

Men and women can be purely friends if there is something specific that would prevent a romantic relationship from taking hold.
Being involved with someone else is an obvious reason, but in another example, I used to be such good friends with a woman that everyone else thought we were together (we were both single), but I knew it would never be more, because she was super duper extra religious and wanted a man who would be the religious leader of her household, and I knew I would never be that man. Didn't keep us from having platonic fun together, though.
(Later I realized I likely missed out at the time from other women who saw me with her and assumed I was taken. Oh well.)

Yes. I have a couple friends that are girls that I've known for years and nothing has or will happen between us. They're confusing as hell though. One of them asked me to start calling her bitch because I was being too nice, then she got offended when I did.

Yes in most cases but if the girl is extremely attractive it makes it very very difficult so in them cases unlikely but not impossible

Yeah they can, though on the internet from what I've seen guys will be nicer to the person if they know it's a female. From what i've seen.
I don't recommend or dis-recommend the movie. It's just that the "Can men and women just be friends?" question is its central theme.
The only other reason to see it would be the famous "I'll have whatever she's having" fake orgasm scene. I'm sure you can get that other places without having to see the whole movie, though.
