An Unrelated Marvel Game Idea
While scowering the Internet for some Avengers fix, I learned that back in 2012, there were plans to make a first person action adventure Avengers game to tie in with the movie, but it was scrapped I guess due to budget and technical problems. This led me thinking: What would a really awesome and really successful Avengers game be like? So I decided to mentally make one up in my mind, which I call: "Avengers: Initiative"
This would be a first-person RPG hybrid, based mainly on the Marvel Comics, with some influence from the MCU. The story premise would probably be that some evil organization (led by Doom or some other top Marvel villain) is planning to trick Galactus or Thanos into attacking Earth, and the player would be a new recruit for the Avengers helping to fight off an incoming threat. Apparently the player will work in teams of Marvel Heroes with a choice of over a hundred, including Captain America, Spider-man, Cloak and Dagger, and some Big Hero 6 members (not based on the Disney version).
So far, I have devised four different "classes" each with their own backstories and origins a la Dragon Age Origins.
"Agent" is a standard class, with a good balance of combat and tech/special skills. With this class, the player would start out as a recruit for SHIELD. They are highly adaptable and are able to equip most gadgets and weapons to use in combat, while also able take out basic security measures and simple hacking.
"Tech Genius" is a tech-based class on par with Tony Stark/Iron Man. While not particularly great in combat, they are able to design, repair, and upgrade every gadget and armor to help them out. Plus, they are expert hackers, capable to use their advance intellect to control the battlefield and turn the tide.
"Asgardian" is a warrior-based class. As a warrior of Asgard, you are able to take a huge amount of damage, while also equally dishing out on their enemies. While mighty in strength, they still lack the skill for Earth technology and computers. But who needs brain when you got brawn?
"Mutant" is a power-based class, which in this game would by default just be capable of telekinesis and levitation. At the expense of true combat training or any real knowledge of advanced electronics, you would still be able to use your powers to control the crowds, throwing enemies against walls or even bending their minds to do your work.
Also, in regards to weapons and gadgets, I have in mind that every Hero could equip any armor or special equipment, but some heroes may have limits (for example, Spidey cannot wear any armor above light and also not carry any weapons other than his web-shooters, and Thor cannot give Mjiloner away).
What do you guys think of this potential idea? Any details that you might want to add or ask questions about?
