Oh another point, I really don't like numbers for reviews, Particularly with most game reviews considering 7 out of 10 an average (I'm not sure but as a Mathematics University student I consider the average is 5). With numerical values I see no particular advantage, If I am going to see a movie I want to know if it interests me not how good it is for what it is and how the camera work is, if I am buying a guitar I want to know what kind of sound it makes, how much it weighs and how durable it is, if I am buying a Camera I want to see test pictures, weight distribution and how durable it is; and I want the same with a game review (how it feels to play, whether it is completely linear or not, how it compares to its predessessor if applicable). Games journalism need to grow up a little in my opinion, which I reckon could happen soon, with the games industry becoming bigger in recent years, in Britain there are (on average) 40% of people have a console (this is with the consoles sold, so doesn't account for those with multiple consoles, PC gamers or imports). People may argue that gaming hasn't grown up that much in the past 5 years, this I disagree with, particularly those who bring up the addition of casual games to the market (including fitness games), I disagree with people because if you look at most forms of entertainment there will be many genres which different people will enjoy: People don't always consider casual gamers real gamers, but if you don't like all sorts of film that doesn't mean you cannot be a film fan does it? and if you only like art house films, you aren't a film fan? My point here is that if you play games, regularly or semi regularly you are a gamer.

I know numbers will never be out of all reviews in my lifetime with them being a pillar of that style of journalism. With this increased divergence in genres, such as films did as they matured, will hopefully encourage more diverse criticism, reviews now usually only say how it plays not how the gameplay makes the player feel about it. Language is a beautiful and constantly evolving thing, so why not use it in a more eloquent way?

Ok now that tangent is over (sorry) I will give a better answer, I will give AC1 a pi out of ten (ten being worst 0 being best). The content is excellent in the game, particularly the climbing mechanics, the only downside is the way they are implemented, the main downside to the game was the side missions being entirely compulsory, and most of them boring after the first couple of times you do them; if you are writing a book you wouldn't have the same sequence with a different person involved, would you? Note. I am using content to refer to gameplay alone.

I enjoyed this game. Sure it got a little easy, after a while, but if you go for the kill without unlocking all the hints (pick pocketing maps or routes, eavesdropping conversations, etc, following informants down alleys for information – and killing them after they give you it) you’re… I forget what the term is, but the thing that represents your health meter won’t be as high and the assassinations become more of a challenge.

It's pretty subjective. I loved every moment of the game, despite the repetition. YMMV.

If ratings were a measure of the quality based on all games in existence, and there were only two games in existence, and one of those games was rated 0 and the other was rated 10, then mathematically, you'd of course be right.*

Realistically, if we even assume that games should be compared to every other game, I don't think the game quality falls on a scale such that 5 is the average. Hopefully, the *average* game has a higher quality level than that.

But I don't even think that's how the everyday quality scale works. A "7" as an average rating works the same as a C on a report card: the game does a lot of things right, but it still is a bit mediocre. A 6 says that a game just barely passes muster. Everything below a 6 is not worth your money at all.

Personally, I don't have a bottomless wallet, and 5 just isn't high enough of a score to consider a buy, or even a rental.

*(Of course, there are infinitely many ways to get an average of 5, but this one was the most amusing to me.)

    Well...

(To the tune of the late Michael Jackson's hit "Bad")

    Yes, blood does fly
    Gonna tell you right
    Altair can't show his face
    In broad daylight
    I'm telling you
    Some blood will spill
    Gonna hurt those knights
    He stabs to kill

    Stab on

    Stab on

    Use the Animus
    All right...

    Just hide with scholars
    And count to three
    Stab the guy you're following
    Or let him be...
    I'm telling you
    Just watch for Templars
    They know your game
    And their swords leave scars

    [Bridge:]
Well they say the sky's the limit
And to me that's really true
Cause you can climb the tallest buildings
Just wait 'till you see the view

    [Chorus:]
Because it's bad, it's bad - stab on
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
You know it's bad, it's bad - you know it
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
You know it's bad, it's bad - stab on, you know
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
And the ESRB gave it an "M"
    for violence and such
That should tell you once again,
    It's bad...

    The guards are out
    You're doin' it wrong
    Gonna chop you up
    Before too long,
    You'd better hide
    Gonna tell you right
    So listen up
    Don't make a fight,
    Your sword is cheap
    It'll lead you astray
    Just run and duck
    Inside some hay

    [Bridge:]
Well there's a bit of bad language
    But nothing all that foul
Just remember that Altair's an assassin
And that may make some people scowl

    [Chorus:]
Because it's bad, it's bad - stab on
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
You know it's bad, it's bad - you know it
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
You know it's bad, it's bad - stab on, you know
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
And the main character stabs people
in the face with his blade
That should tell you once again,
    It's bad...

    It has historical value
But not much, I must admit
If you don't like what I'm saying'
Then you probably shouldn't buy it

    [Chorus:]
Because it's bad, it's bad - stab on
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
You know it's bad, it's bad - you know it
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
You know it's bad, it's bad - stab on, you know
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
And Jack Thompson wants it banned
    in all fifty states
That should tell you once again

    Woo! Woo! Woo!
(And if it were a movie it would be a soft "R"
Just to tell you once again...)

Because it's bad, it's bad - stab on
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
You know it's bad, it's bad - you know it
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
You know it's bad, it's bad - stab on, you know
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
    And Fox News calls it
    a murder simulator
That should tell you once again

You know it's crude, it's bad - stab on
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
You know it's bad, it's bad - you know it
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
You know it's bad, it's bad - stab on, you know
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
    And it's probably
    Banned in Germany
That should tell you once again

Because it's bad, it's bad - stab on
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
You know it's bad, it's bad - you know it
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
You know it's bad, it's bad - stab on, you know
(Bad bad - really, really bad)
And nobody can jump into a pile
of hay that small and live
That should tell you once again,
    It's bad.

    ...

Okay, it's really not that graphic. Just rent it and judge for yourself. If you like it, buy it.

Heh, aye. Writing parody songs is my favorite pastime. :D (Had a little trouble with this one, though... sing it in your head and you'll notice that not all of the lines fit unless you separate the words oddly.)

Haha, I did notice that a little bit, but still, very awesome!
