[Steam] TWD Season 1 Episodes 1-2 bug

Hey Telltale!

I bought The Walking Dead on Steam to treat myself to an awesome adventure a few times per week.

It was purchased earlier this week on Monday, the 25th of May. I played Episode 1 that same evening and since I've the day off I decided I'd load the game and enjoy some zombie action. I selected my save, which was displayed as 'Episode 1', and it then started Episode 2. I immediately noticed that the summary it showed me was incorrect - it showed Carley being eaten while Doug looked on in horror, despite me being sure that it was Carley whom I had chosen to save. Now I know what you're thinking; nobodys' memory is perfect, right?

Here's the thing - I'm taking a screenshot of my choices at the end of every episode during my original playthrough.

At first I assumed the bug was that the episode 1 recap just showed Carley being killed no matter who you chose to save. But when I started episode 2 the very first conversation I had, the character called Mark referred to my friend Doug naming different kinds of pie in his sleep. That remark shouldn't have happened if Doug died over three months ago, before Lee ever met Mark.

I decided to play on to see who'd be waiting back at camp, and Doug was there.

So to provide a tl;dr;

  • I purchased TWD Season 1 & played Episode 1 on Monday.
  • Near the end of the playthrough I chose to save Carley.
  • I log in to continue with the story today, Wednesday.
  • The game bugs and thinks it's Doug who had survived.
  • I have only played Episode 1 a single time.

    I apologize for the inconvenience. If you are playing the game on Steam with Steam Cloud Saving enabled for the game, a secondary file may be causing this error. Please read this Sticky on how to run our Support Tool, and follow the steps to run the tool, and reply here with the download link copied and pasted into a reply. You can find the Sticky here:

    After looking over your Support Tool information, I have found the root cause of your issue. Please rename the prefs.prop file in

    D:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\The Walking Dead\Pack\default

    to prefs.prop.bak to disable it, then restart the game and your save files will be restored with the proper choices.
