I face a dilema... :(

Basically... I have a laptop that overheats at even installing broken sword 2.. it seems, nevermind running ToMI.. I have a computer with a broken motherboard, and I only have internet access through a USB dongle.

I've tried setting up an access point on my mobile phone and connecting the wii to it. Doesn't work. Apparently my phone can't connect ad hoc connections. Or something, I don't really get it.

I've tried buying and using the Wii LAN adapter (the same sort of idea DOES work on my xbox 360). Doesn't work. It says it doesn't work with Internet Connection Sharing.

I've tried sitting the laptop on top of a bad of ice wrapped in a tea towel. Doesn't work, it still overheats and switches off doing anything "power intensive" - like watching something on youtube, or installing Broken Sword 2..

I'm stumped. I used to take my wii round to my mum's house and download anything I needed from her router, that's how I've got SBCG4AP. But I'm skint, I can't afford the trip AND the cost of ToMI on wiiware.

At least I've preordered the PC download, I'll eventually have a working PC and I'll be able to play it on that. Or I could wait a few weeks til pay day and go round to my parent's house.

I've spent the last 4 hours trying to get into this old broken Dell I was given, and put a new graphics card in and it still doesn't show a picture, it must be the motherboard.

I think I'm going to cry.

I need to play Monkey Island somehow!! :(

How is your home network set up?

internet dongle in laptop in bedroom, 15 foot LAN cable going down to the living room into the back of the xbox 360. That's my network.

In Hull we're stuck to one broadband provider and they are far too expensive. So I got a dongle.

Thing is, when Strong Bad came out I could wait a week to get it. When Sam & Max came out, I bought it on retail, then bought the Wii version. I never pictured myself being so desperate to get this silly rig working!

Have you tried using a nintendo wifi adaptor? That may work, but I am not entirely sure.

That's my next purchase when I can afford it...

Until then I've bought a new laptop on credit, I'll pay it in full in October :p

Oh the lengths I'll go to for my Monkey fix.. lol

Dude, I feel for you. My lappy crashed like ten times on Abe Lincoln must die before I finally found out if I took it out of full screen mode it could handle the graphics. Ultimately, though, I ended up just caving and buying a tower because I got sick of slow controls, frequent crashes, and only having 3% free space on my hard drive. Lappies just don't have the full power of the tower.

Of course, you could do what my brother did and find a cheap used one on craigslist, but you'd have to check it onsite before paying. Best of luck, man.

If you're good with computers/don't care about the warranty... (well, if you DO still have a warranty, yell at them about your problems! It may be that they will fix/replace the laptop.)

Try opening up your laptop enough to look at the fans and try clearing out some dust. If it's obvious one of your fans has quit working, the laptop may not be worth the trouble to fix. But if it's clogged full of dustbunnies - you would be surprised how many get up in there! - clearing those out may help you moderate your laptop's heat a lot better.

the warranty ended ages ago, so I'll open it up and have a look once the new one gets here (so I'm not completely stuck!!)

When my tower broke down (custom made), I stripped it of the parts and sold them/gave them away.. the GPU went to my dad and the processor, x64 3800+, and the RAM went to the second hand shoppie. I should have kept it all dammit!!

Still, in around 6 months or so I'll have the money to build myself a new one!! Might get back into PC gaming :-)
