Discuss the upcoming video game called VAMPYR on this thread!
Vampyr is set in early 20th century Britain as the country is gripped by the lethal Spanish flu and the streets of London are crippled by disease, violence and fear. In a disorganized and ghostly city, those foolish, desperate, or unlucky enough to walk the streets lay prey to Britain’s most elusive predators: the vampires. Emerging from the chaos, a tormented figure awakens. You are Jonathan E. Reid, a high-ranking military surgeon, shortly after World War I, upon his return home from the frontline, he is bitten by a patient that has the Spanish Flu. That bite turns the M.D. into a supernatural blood-sucking villain. There will be a choice system in the game that juxtaposes the doctor's desire to heal and help against the vampire's tendency kill and quench his thirst for blood.
Explore the darkly atmospheric streets of early 20th century London, and interact with a multitude of characters with their own identities and importance. Accept and fulfill the missions they give you, but don’t forget: sooner or later, you will have to feed, and make a difficult choice… who will be your prey? Absolutely all characters in the game are potential victims of your vampiric lust. Carefully study the habits of your next victim, his or her relationships with other characters, and set up your strategy to feed, unnoticed: seduce them, change their daily habits, or make sure they end up alone in a dark street.
As you cling to what remains of your humanity, your decisions will ultimately shape the fate of your hero while searching for answers in the coughing, foggy aftermath of the Spanish Flu.
There will be times when exploration and seduction will only get you so far, and you'll need to resort to engaging in Vampyr's dynamic real-time combat. It blends hard-hitting melee combat with ranged shooting mechanics and the supernatural vampire powers. You'll face many types of enemies: different species of vampires and creatures, as well as vampire hunters who want to hunt you down with their weapons, tools and traps. In Vampyr, your health and the "energy" that drives your supernatural powers are one and same! Using powers will drain your own blood, giving you an edge in battle but also leaving you weaker. You will have to find a way to feed during combat to replenish your strength.
Vampyr also offers a deep crafting system. Find and loot materials and components from the fresh corpses of your victims or during exploration, in order to craft and improve tools, melee and ranged weapons, as well as special ammunitions and coating to exploit the weaknesses of your enemies.
Vampyr will release in 2017 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Dontnod Entertainment, developers of Remember Me and most recently Life is Strange and publisher Focus Home Interactive are pleased to officially announced their partnership for the development of Vampyr, a new role-playing game powered by Unreal Engine 4 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC
Apparently the Y in the name relates to the choices in the game where the doctor faces moral quandaries as his doctor side tries to heal, while his vampire nature wants to kill and feed. The tag line for Vampyr is ‘Take blood. Save a life’. Choices won’t be clear cut within the game either, but there are very few details on that. Vampyr also sees DONTNOD trying to start up a second development team within the studio so more projects can be worked on.
Comments
Isn't vampyr the name of the leader of the vamp kids from South Park?
Oooh, nice. Vampires are a guilty pleasure of mine (as long as they're handled well). I'm excited for this.
Fucking dumbest name ever.
The doctor in that video sounds like Lady Forrester's VA.
I'm quite interesting in trying this out, considering the morality system and the balance of you as a Doctor vs you as a Vampire. And I heard it explained how every life you take or not take has an impact on the story, since once a NPC is dead they're dead for good. The man in the video above for example can be considered bad because he's a gang member and bullying people like the merchant he encounters, but he's also doing such things for his sick son. So by killing him you will be able to help the merchant and others recover, but you'll also be leaving his son with no one to protect him. And you could decide instead to target the merchant, the son, the local vicar or any other NPC in the game.
And as the conclusion showed, ever area of London you can visit has a health meter of sorts, and every time you help people as a Doctor it goes up and if you kill as a Vampire it goes down. Killing more people makes you grow stronger and tune your abilities to your desire, whether you want to focus on power, stealth, agility or more. But as the health of a area like Whitechapel goes down it opens the risk of it becoming infected and abandoned to freakish half-spawn and more.
I am curious to see if this game is episodic or not, but I do love the era it is set within.
I'm actually really interested in this. Loving the morallity and how at some point you NEED to feed. One thing I'm not clear on, do characters you feed on have to die?
Yeah that doesn't really make much sense in vampire terminology. They don't have to kill to feed.
I'm guessing the idea is that once you start feeding you can't stop yourself.
Yeah, most vampires that I've seen in recent times struggle to stop once they've started.
IIRC it isn't episodic. Idk tho.
I've just seen the demo gameplay and it looks pretty cool (read: dark and edgy). I'll definitely be watching gameplays of this.
Hoping they fine tune the combat for the final game. Looked kinda clunky and slow in the pre-alpha demo, to me at least. Also hoping they improve the lip sync as well. I can understand it not being too great since it's still a pre-alpha.
Don't like vampires, prefer werewolves, but the concept looks interesting. From the same guys who made life is strange, so will definitely give it a go. I hope it's a good one, I'm rooting for Dontnod. I really want them to replace Bioware spot in my heart.
it looks interesting, but the facial animations still look as Bad as in LiS. They should get more budget.
We'll see if there's any improvement in the retail game, and they still have like a year until it releases. Facial animations were better in Remember Me, and the game shows it had a bigger budget than LiS. Don't know about Vampyr yet, but in spite of its bigger budget, RM bombed pretty badly.
Have you seen interview with a vampire and queen of the damned they're pretty good.
Thats the way vampire was spelt during the time the game is set in.

No chance, nothing can beat the mass effect games.
I don't support racist, and Bioware employ them. They are dead to me.
Yes both in fact, interview with a vampire is the better of the two. But yes, they're both good movies.
What?
Still doesn't make it any less dumb.
You haven't heard of manveer heir wanting to kill white people and hate white people. The man spouts how he wants white people dead on his twitter and Bioware does nothing. I'm not white, and I think it's disgusting. Here's a youtube video that rageaholic did on the subject. There's more proof out there, I just like his take on it.
Could be Dhampyr, Draug/Draugyr, or even Rakshasa. It doesn't matter much though as the idea of vampirism exists since pre-Roman, Mesopotamian age and as such neither of the modern terminologies correctly fit. In the end Vamypre is still more accurate than the current pop-culture dumb vampire term.
who cares lol

Meh...
I care. It's disgusting that they let this man openly hate people on his twitter account that is affiliated with Bioware. If this were a white man that said he wanted black people dead, they'd jump all over him. This is unprofessional.
You're going to hate a whole team because of one asshole?
it's like hating this whole website just because I go here
which wouldn't be that unreasonable
Cry me a river. BioWare is the best.
I don't hate the entire team. I dislike what this individual is saying. I will not support his rhetoric by not supporting him. He works for BW, using an account affiliated with the company. The company has not openly spoken against the things he's said, therefore I can only assume they are okay with this behavior.
Opinions are like bellybuttons
...Some have an innie, some have an outie?
Everybody has one
Who the hell is this douchenozzle?
Edit: For the record, I'm referring to 'Fedora Durdern' in the video there.
There are ways to deal with racism effectively. Shouting rhetoric into your own asshole isn't one of them.
Pretty sure it I'd still earlyish in development.
Day 1 buy. Haven't had a good vampire game in years and I trust dontnod at this point.
