can i pause the game when the timer is running ? to give me time to decide on my response ? thanks

Yes, if you need to make a difficult choice you can just press space to pause. I've done it too.
You can do this on PC by pressing Space.
But it cannot be done on Xbox/Playstation (to my knowledge...)
