Ace Attorney games

I just finished the Phoenix Wright trilogy and wow, one of the greatest games series I've played so far. What are your thoughts on it? If you have played, which game do you recommend me to play next (Apollo Justice, Investigations, etc.)? Anyway, just tell me your opinion on the series :)

Oh yeah I love these games they're great, I can't wait for the next one, which takes place a few hundred years before the main series.

  • Oh, yes, I've heard about that one, can't wait to see how they will handle it tho. And have you played all games from the main series? I've finished the trilogy today so I'm not sure which one I should play next, Perhaps I'm gonna try to play AA Investigations starring Edgeworth. :P

Just so you know, there are two of of those AA investigations, the first one is localized, but the second one hasn't been yet, however there is a fan translation on the Internet.

I've played the original trilogy as well as the fifth (haven't played Apollo Justice since I don't own a DS and it hasn't been brought to the IPad yet).

  • I've heard a lot of bad comments about AJ, so I'll probably play it after AAI and DD. AAI 2 was released 4 years ago and still not released outside of Japan? They will take an eternity to localize this next game. And there's also the crossover between Professor Layton and Phoenix W, but since it's not that important to the main series, I think I'll pass. Btw thanks for the tip :P

  • Just play the games in order of their release dates (AA > JFA > T&T > AJ > (AAI > AAI2 >) DD), so that you get all of the story references. Also Phoenix Wright vs Professor Layton is actually really good

  • I haven't played any of them yet but I recently got the legacy collection for the DS, you know the one that has the GBA games and I'm going to give that a try, however if you want something good by the same team I strongly recommend a game called Ghost Trick Phantom Detective, it's a fantastic puzzle game, it's seriously really good.

As for when I'll start that, I don't know I'm currently hooked on Castlevania Portrait of Ruin and Castlevania is like crack to me.

  • This game looks interesting, could you tell me where one could buy it?

  • Oh thanks for your advice! Is AJ as bad as people say? Cause since I've finished the trilogy, the next one in the chronological order would be AJ.

  • You can play them on Nintendo DS or you could use a DS emulator on the internet and then download the ROM. Trust me, they're really good, you won't regret :D

The English versions of the first three games were originally released for Nintendo DS. If you have an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad, you can also buy the first three games in an HD collection from iTunes. The first three games are also now available on NIntendo 3DS as well.

The first three games were also released for Gameboy Advance and Windows, but, sadly, only in Japan, and they never received an English translation.

The fourth game, Apollo Justice, is only available for Nintendo DS. The fifth game in the main series, Dual Destinies, is available for Nintendo 3DS and iOS.

The spin-off game, Miles Edgeworth, is only available on Nintendo DS. Its sequel was also released for Nintendo DS, but only in Japan, and it never received an official English translation.

There is also the crossover game, Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, which is available for NIntendo 3DS.

  • Nah, AJ isn't as bad as it sounds, I think people mainly don't like it because they brought in a new cast of characters.

It's a shame that it's not more popular, but I can understand the people who go "seems boring" when they see a game about being a lawyer and doing lawyery stuff. Truly, they don't know they are missing on one of the best and funniest game serie, in my opinion. They will never get to hate prosecutors with passion before they grow on them. They will never go "Godammit, it's you again" when a reccuring character appears. They will never get that feeling of satisfaction when a witness finally breakdowns in the most extravagant and crazy way. And they will never have the envy to point their fingers at people while yelling "OBJECTION".

Anyways, what was your favorite case and prosecutor in the trilogy? For me, the last cases of Justice for All and Trials and Tribulations were absolutely amazing. Concerning the prosecutors, it has to be Edgy-boy for me, but Godot is just right behind him.

For your next game, I'd recommend Apollo Justice. Even if it is not as good as the Phoenix Wright ones, it's still a lot of fun. Plus, Apollo Justice does the tie with the next Ace Attorney sequel: Dual Destinies which is, for me, a pretty cool Ace Attorney. You could just jump directly to Dual Destinies but a lot of characters introduced in Apollo Justice (like Apollo himself) wouldn't be familiar then, taking a bit of enjoyment from the game. As for the Investigations ones, I can't really say because I haven't played them.

  • I know right? You seem to have enjoyed this series as much as I did! Too bad they're not that popular, since the game has lots of dialogues, I guess people get bored easily or something like that :(

I get that ''Godammit, it's you again'' feeling every time I see Lotta or Larry, whenever something bad happens, they're always there to screw up everything. I absolutely love the last cases of JFA and T&T, they're certainly my favorites too, I've heard something about DeKiller coming back in another game of the series (I can't remember which game though) so I can barely wait to see him again. Edgeworth is one of my favorite characters of the series and as much as I love him, Godot is still the most challenging prosecutor in my opinion, the final courtroom scene is absolutely amazing, which makes me admire him even more.

Yeah, since I've heard that AJ is not as good as PW, I was afraid of getting it. But I guess I'll give it a try. I'm just sad because I heard there's no Maya on AJ or D&D. :( And thanks for the tip! It's good to see that other people have enjoyed the series so much. Capcom certainly knows how to make unforgettable characters.
