Well if I'm gonna rank the first chapters in each MI game, it will be as follows:
1: MI2:LR Chapter one: The Largo Embargo
2: ToMI Chapter one: The Launch of the Screaming Narwhal
3: SoMI Chapter one: The Three Trials
4: CoMI Chapter one: The Demise of the Zombie Pirate LeChuck
5: EfMI Chapter one: Things to do on Mêlée Island when you're dead
As you can see its up there, but comparing Narwhal to other whole MI games? Thats just silly! ;P
Now I'm looking forward for the third and fourth chapter as theyve always been the meat of a MI story!
I am impressed with how much the game feels like an MI game, dodgy controls (and excuses therefor) and sales model aside. And the guybrush and elaine characters is only outranked in style by MI3 imo.
Elaine's character is infinitely more likable in ToMI than she were in EfMI, in witch she had a more "bitchy" quality over her.
Hard to judge, since she was either a silent gold statue or gagged through most of the game. What? She had, maybe, 12 lines? I thought the Elaine of the 4th game thoroughly depicted the consummate girlfriend/wife. If you find her "bitchy," I must assume you've never lived with the average, western woman.
P.S. (Just to be my usual "prick") Do you prefer a woman who barely speaks? Is that the best woman for you?--Barefoot, in the kitchen, and silent? Nice.
I just got past the marquis puzzle and I am enjoying this game very much!!
I'm taking it kinda slow because of this, waiting another month could kill me otherwise haha.
The marquis puzzle really sold me on the game and really had that old skool kind of "genius".
Agreed that the sidecharacters could use some work because they all look kinda bland and the same but apart from that the game looks pretty good and it captures the Monkey vibe I love so much.
The only thing I sorely miss is the original voice actor for Lechuck,
I just can't seem to get used to this new "lamer" voice.
The music is, off course, a nice return and helps sets the tone in a great way.
I got used to the new mouse only controlscheme pretty fast and although I would prefer point and click I understand their reasons and it works like a charm when you get used to it.
The only thing I regret is that it makes the game less enjoyable when you are....you know tired
That's what I loved about the originals, even when you were about to fall asleep, pointing and clicking was never a chore.
Anyways, keep it up Telltale!!
I can't wait to see what you do with the rest of them.
PS: I'm one of those guys who grew up with Curse, so obviously it remain smy favourite of the bunch.
That game has influenced me in more ways then I can imagine. Especially artwise!!
PS-2: I'm also kinda new to these forums, Hi everybody!!
I wouldn't go so far as to say TOMI is the best. Not by a long way. But I'm currently liking it more than EMI.
One and two are in a league of their own - CMI is as well; they're quite different so it's hard to compare. But I definitely like TOMI a lot.
It's too early to say that this is the best MI game ever, but one thing is for sure:
This is a great game. The Monkey Island series is clearly back on track. I thought the scenery was beautiful, the music was perfect, and the story fantastic. I officially can't wait to see what's next.
I have no interest (yet) in ranking this game against its predecessors, but I feel pretty comfortable that I'm going to be more than satisfied with the final product.
Visually and musically speaking ToMI so far hasn't matched the epicness of CoMI, the gameplay and plot however are definitely on course to match or maybe even better CoMI.

Yeah, I always did prefer CMI Elaine To EMI Elaine. Glad to have her back.

A 10 out of 10
A 67 out 42, YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT!
I'm rubber, you're glue
Monkey Island 2 is still my favorite though
