Anyone watching "True Detective"

Anyone watching season two of True Detective? What are your expressions/thoughts on it?

  • Ray is the only character I care about. I don't what to say that all of the characters are dark, but something is taken away the show when everyone on there have similar somber type moods. I actually don't mind Antigone but she wish she had more range. The interconnecting pieces involved with the murder of Casper is great. The only thing I don't know is watching tv regularly instead of binging tv is messing with my expectations.

  • They have done a good job with the endings of the episodes so far. I've had a couple wtf just happened moments already this season. I agree about the characters I think. I find myself disliking all the main characters at certain points. It is nice to see Vince Vaughn in a serious role again too.

  • At certain times I don't know if it bad acting or if how someone reacts given his/her characteristics. Frank has been mostly miss & this last episode Paul overdid his interaction with his mom and that actress.

I've been watching. This season has not been as good as the first one, but it's okay. And like you said Ray is the best character, I feel like they should've done this with only 3 main characters maybe even 2. Anyway the last episode was probably the best so far, made me feel like the last episodes could be good. So far 7/10 (whereas first season was 9/10).

  • Well, as my avatar would suggest, I'm currently enthralled with the first season. I've heard mixed things about the second season although I would like to watch it...

Speaking of first season, Rust is such an amazing character. Marty is an asshole though.

  • I've noticed that most scenes with Frank and his lady end with them just quietly staring at each other.

  • l still haven't watched the show yet. People keep telling me to though. I'll likely give it a viewing before the end of the month.

  • I just wish they weren't all so damaged :D at least in season 1 marty was a bit normal :D

  • Yeah, that's one issue I have with it. The show does try to bring some humor in. Ray's humor is kind hyperbolic so it works for me. Frank though his lines and dark humor does not resonate.

  • That last episode got all kinds of weird.

  • I would have preferred Vera being dead, but I guess she's needed for information. It must be Tasha's blood in that shed.

  • I agree with you, the dark tone of the series is just not realistic. People don't talk like that, and the good thing about the first season is that only Cole seemed to undestand the bigger game. Now we have 4 characters that are damaged and mummble a lot. And the case is hard to follow at best.

  • I don't understand how people can be totally clueless about what's going on. Hopefully those still watching have infinitely more context than before from tonight's episode. The season has been hit or miss in several scenes but I dislike it less than before.

  • I agree. I actually don't dislike any of the main characters now that I know why they're a bunch of weirdos.
