Why do they focus on female main?

  • Because I had a question about a male protagonist???? You people are the one who go fucking nuclear over such a question. That's the problem with people these days. Can't ask a fucking question without you people going fucking ape shit. You guys want the fight, not me. fayescarlet was the only one who gave a civil response to my question. The rest of you were looking for a fight.

Part of me thinks you're just here to cause arguments. THINKS? This forum, i damn swear.

  • Your question was why are they pandering to the minority by having a female as the lead in the game because the main readership of the Zombie genre is men. Your argument was weak. People took exception to your question which came across as sexist, and your response was to play the race card like it was the golden ticket, as though it could make your point more solid when all it did was make it weaker.

No.... You people want to argue. I asked a simple, and honest question. It was the people who took great offense to the thought of a guy who would like a TellTale TWD series with a male protagonist.

  • If I was a gay man asking for a gay protagonist I'd bet you'd shut your mouth. Because I'd be railing on your for being homophobic so damn fast.

You seem like you cannot handle criticism. Don't make a damn thread then expect only good feedback.

  • Are you being serious... Really serious? I could say that there is an equal split between men, and women with romance novels... But I think we'd both know that isn't accurate.

Not exactly labelling you, it's not a label. I'm not extreme or judgmental, I'm just sick of this. Who says more men like the zombie genre, it could be an equal split.

  • Don't worry I got it. Your whole post has been about how women don't read enough zombie books to warrant being portrayed as a protagonist. And men, who read more zombie books than women, should be the protagonist in the games. We got it. You were clear

YOU said sex was of no importance. I was disagreeing with you. Try reading a little better.

Stop using other examples of stuff that doesn't relate to fuel your pointless argument.

I actually understand where you are coming from, you just would like to see someone who represents you in ttg twd series. There's nothing wrong with that.

Yet you are insulting people over the dumbest of shit, which is just so childish imo.

This entire thread...this whole dilemma... I could put my head so deep into the ground that it would appear my body and head were on two opposite ends of the world.

  • That's because people like you are so short sighted you can't see the end of your nose.

    Try reading a little better.

I bet you would be the first to complain if all the people were white. And then throw in some things about racism.

  • I miss the down vote button, now I have to comment to express my dislike.

  • One of the reasons is probably for some variety. So many games with only a male lead and no option to play as a female. Its boring. Always happy for more games with female protags. Can't wait for Michonne.

  • edited July 2015

Because the zombie genre is over-saturated with males as it is? Why NOT have more females in the zombie genre? We like zombies, too, you know. We like to imagine ourselves as a badass zombie slayer like Michonne, too. If you don't like it, then go play one of the other thousands of zombie games with a 30-40-something year old white male protagonist.

Lee, Wyatt, Vince, Russell = 4 males

Clementine, Shel, Bonnie, Michonne = 4 females

Telltale's doing just fine with the sex ratio in their zombie games. ;)

Doesn't matter to me either way. I will say however that with Male protagonists being the "norm" in video games, female protagonists inherently have a lot more to live up to. I think a lot of game developers are intimidated by that., which is why they stick to the "norm", which is also what gamers are used to.

  • No, not at all. But considering the way women are portrayed in video games if they are portrayed at all do you really want to argue for the exclusion of well written female characters?

    Kennyftw posted: »

"over the top reasons".... Yes I'm over the top because I'm a man, and prefer to play a character as a man.... I suppose that makes a gay man who would like to play a gay character a bad person who hates straight people.

  • Considering Telltale is one of the few companies that write good female characters, that are well rounded and not there for titillation. Considering the way women are portrayed in video games if they are even portrayed at all, do you really want to be on the side that's going "women as lead characters. I want less of that. Why are they even having them as protagonists? Men read more zombie books than women. They should be the lead."

Why would I be against a gay protagonist? Don't you get that you're the one arguing about excluding minorities here? I'm all for gay/lesbians/women being portrayed in the games.

  • And considering you don't want to play as a female protagonist is because you're a male. I can see you arguing against having to play as a gay man in TWD cause you're not gay.

    Well, this forum escalated quickly...

  • Completely ignoring Season 1 which focused on Lee, I don't see the harm in focusing on female characters considering there aren't a lot of other grounded portrayals.

Anyways, this thread has made a total 180 from having any attempt at civil discussion, so nighty night.
