Your question was why are they pandering to the minority by having a female as the lead in the game because the main readership of the Zombie genre is men. Your argument was weak. This entire thread...this whole dilemma... I could put my head so deep into the ground that it would appear my body and head were on two opposite ends of the world.
One of the reasons is probably for some variety. So many games with only a male lead and no option to play as a female. Its boring. Always happy for more games with female protags. Can't wait for Michonne.

We like to imagine ourselves as a badass zombie slayer like Michonne, too. Telltale's doing just fine with the sex ratio in their zombie games.

Completely ignoring Season 1 which focused on Lee, I don't see the harm in focusing on female characters considering there aren't a lot of other grounded portrayals.
