What would happen in a miscarriage?

edited July 2015 in The Walking Dead

Sorry for being morbid. I'm wondering what happens. And I don't mean a situation where you deliver the baby and it dies after, I mean what would happen if it died inside of you?

  • I would think the baby would just die if it's not developed.

  • I think the result depends on how far along the pregnancy was when the baby died. The baby may need to be taken out of the uterus anyway (becoming stillborn), or the woman will have to wait for the tissue to be washed out (medication is provided if tissue remains after a couple weeks).

  • A baby would die. Tbh I'm not sure why this is on TWD forum

  • I think they mean if it happened during the zombie apocalypse. Like, would it zombifie while in the mother.

That would depend on how exactly the virus/infection that causes reanimation works, and if a baby is susceptible to it or not.

Since there's no doubt the mother is infected with it (as is everyone), that means the risk of it being passed on is pretty high. I'm not very enlightened on how a baby absorbs the nutrients and everything from the mother, but I'm assuming that if anything going into the baby has the walker virus in it, the baby will most likely be infected, which would indeed cause a zombie baby to happen. Although, given the physiology of zombies, I doubt a zombie baby would be able to do all that much inside there. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure those uh... lady parts are pretty strong, right? The worst case scenario would be the baby rupturing the uterus or something, I'd imagine. But I doubt it'd be able to cause a full-on chestburster situation where it rips straight through the stomach.

If it was still a fetus, or otherwise much earlier in development, well, that'd be even more interesting. Speaking of which, it'd also be pretty fucking horrifying to see: Go look up a picture of a human embryo. Now picture that as a zombie. It'd probably depend how many bodily functions have adequately developed, but at that stage, the zombie would practically be a vegetable, unable to do much, if anything, at all. Oh, and it'd also probably complete destroy it's own body once it reanimates, leaving it a mangled mess upon someone finally taking it ou-OH GOD WHY AM I TYPING THIS

I was considering responding with a proper answer to this OP, and then I realized my comment would end up something like your comment. So I didn't. xp

All out hilarity ensues. Stay tuned for the comedy that has all the critics laughing. TBS presents... Baby Fetus Reanimated.

  • Go and watch Dawn of the Dead - the remake with Sarah Polly, not the original. Situation similar to what you are asking about.

    Warning: Sad shit be here.

You want to know something really truly scary and tragic? To be perfectly bluntly honest, in this situation the mother might not even be aware that the fetus has died. It's a very scary and tragic thought honestly. The fetus can start kicking between 16-25 weeks, and a miscarriage is defined to be when the fetus dies some time before the 20th week. For example if you have a mother with a kicking fetus at 16 weeks and then before 20 weeks it dies and turns into a zombie some time after, the mother will continue to feel the fetus move (except it's a zombie now), and she may have no idea anything is wrong. (This actually can happen in real life too, minus the zombie part of course; after a fetus is confirmed a miscarriage, the mother can continue to feel "phantom kicks" in her abdomen though there's nothing alive there. I've never heard of something more heartbreaking in my life.) The mother will still probably have spotting/bleeding and pain at the very least, however, so she may suspect a miscarriage in that way. Don't forget also that after the miscarriage the mother may have feelings of depression or guilt. :(

There are other details that I could go into, but this is gruesome and tragic enough as it is, and I think that's enough of that.

  • Life is sad,

    Thank god for icecream.

  • It wouldn't have teeth to bite so it's all good.

  • That's a really scary thought to think about T.T kicking when it's dead.

Wait if the fetus died, wouldn't it infect the mother? o.o
