And here goes my review
So, i would give this first episode and introduction to the new MI Saga 8 out of 10 demonic skulls from hell. And if you consider I would give 6 to EMI, this is a darn big progress. I enjoyed the whole episode, there were minor flaws, due to the episodic format, but i guess it will wash away, as the story continues and gains more depht.
First...i liked that freaky island a lot. Atmosphere and design was great. All the wierd buildings, built out of ship-parts and other stuff. The Wind-Sounds, stuff flying around...all that added perfectly for this unique little island. Although I got a little bored from the jungle, looked all the same to me...but I quess, that's why it's a jungle.;-)
But i guess there will be no island per episode? Cause I immidiatly thought we will return to Flotsam Island in "The Trial and Execution of Guybrush Threepwood". Why? Now...there's a courthouse. So I guess, it will serve a purpose. So, Morglan Le FLay will caputre Guybrush somewhere and bring him back to Flotsam. Or maybe I'm totally wrong? Nontheless, I'm afraid of reusing old parts of the game. Could be a little bit boring, Sam&Max suffered a little bit from this.
Characters were funny, I loved D'Oro and Marquise. Oh his house-interior was great. The Glassblower annoyed me with his chanting about unicorns. Also, he looked like a pirate Leonard Steakcharmer.
Nevermind, there's my opinion. Controls were good, i almost didn't miss Point n' Click, the combination of mouse and WASD was great and made no problems at all.
Oh, and i love human Le Chuck. Great Design.
So Telltale...thank you so much. Keep up the good work and surprise me with an even more awesome sequel!
And to the few nay-sayers out there: Get over it. This is no Nostalgia-Show about bringing back fond memories from your childhood.
THIS! IS! MONKEY! ISLAND!
BABY!

Didn't recognized the sign...but i guess, i'm afraid your right.
If we end up with episodes in which we can freely to and from several islands !
But hey, i guess i'm asking for too much here
First of all, wow, that was great, having just finished the first episode, I can happily say Monkey Island is back and in style.
I honestly really enjoyed the episode and found it close to perfect, the difficulty in particular, whilst may be a little easy for hardcore Monkey Island/Adventure game fans, personally I found it to have the right level of head scratching, without getting to that frustrating raw scalp level.
The humor, direction and art style I thought were all spot on, so well done Telltale, this is a game that does so many things right, however no is flawless not even one containing our mighty pirate friend.
Thankfully my issues were only minor and barely detracted from what was a great and one of my best gaming experiences in recent years.
One of the few issues, concerns the audio quality.
Whilst I found it fine on the main characters such as Guybrush and LeChuck etc. The sound quality of the dialog of minor characters was notabley worse, and at times fairly poor.
In addition though the mouse controls were far preferable to the keyboard control, and such an improvement over EMI, I still feel they could use some tweaking, though this may be related to, at times awkward camera angles which was another small grievance of mine.
Finally though in general the graphics and art style were good, I still feel there could be improvement in this department, especially in relation to texture quality, and also character detail, especially the minor characters. There was one scene however (the closing one), involving a certain island that really demonstrated what were some extremely poor graphics and lack of detail.
Though it may sound like I've been picky here, I really haven't intended to be, and I can't really praise this game enough, which is beyond impressive considering the legacy and precedent of quality, it's had follow and adhere to
Otherwise I thought I was great, except with default setting in the intro its hard to hear some of the voices over the music, but a quick trip to the setting page fixed that :P.
You know, that's what I thought to... the courthouse trial.
TMI: 10 out of 10.
you also have to bear in mind that each episode has its "version" of the previously used locations... So they are always quite a bit different each time around (See the W&G house and the S&M office/street) In those, there is usually enough new stuff in the locations to make you overlook the re-use.
Also, since everyone has to buy all the episodes, they could be clever and pool the files... Each episode add a new island to the map. (Also add some more to the previous islands.) Which would decrease the download size, but make the world continue to grow, and be a massive 5 island network by episode 5.
(which, for the Epic-ness that this game demands... I hope that's that telltale does)
Just finished the first episode. I loved it. And I enjoyed it absolutely. The story (the winds and all) - great. The humour - awsome! I really had to pause the game and laugh loud for a minute.. I don't recall having to do this in MI4.. The puzzles were great, too.. I didn't want any hints, so I shut them off. And I really liked how firstly, I thought a 'certain character' (spoiler free! :P) was a positive protagonist (not evil at all, just sainly challenged :P), but in the next moment everything started to fit...
So, I'm very satisfied! And yes, i forgot - I actually liked the controls very much.. I got used to them in a minute or so.
Once again, Telltale, you deserve a really HUGE THANK YOU for the hard work,
can't wait for the next episode.
I'm giving you 9.5 / 10!
