What we know about the story so far
So with the release of the new demo at PAX, people who have played it have been coming out with some details surrounding the story, so we might as well discuss the plot that we know about so far.
So the demo starts off with Jesse and his friends searching for Reuben, his/her pig, in the forest outside Endercon. Jesse and the group split up to look for Reuben, At this point you can look around and stare at things with Jesse saying witty things about stuff (standard Telltale exploration segment) with Jesse searching for clues to Reuben's whereabouts. Apparently there are multiple paths to look down. Reuben was apparently wearing an Ender Dragon cosplay. After finding Reuben you're then surrounded by multiple Minecraft monsters, you are presented with your first big choice, telling Reuben to run away while you distract the monsters, or tell him to stay with you so you can protect him. According to an article on this demo there is a possibility that you can get Reuben hurt during this. Petra, the red headed female character voiced by Ashley Johnson then comes in to save your hide.
Petra then brings you into a cave and has you craft a stone sword (what we saw in the trailer). Here you learn that Petra is planning to sell a Wither Skeleton Skull to a collector (we can assume the shady guy giving her the diamond in the trailer is the buyer).
Image shows the inventory screen and a bit of the game. There's a "Call Reuben" button
The demo then cuts to the future, a Lovecraftian-like creature, with three heads, tentacles and the ability to float is terrorizing Endercon (we'll assume Jesse and the group are responsible), people are being sucked into the monster by a purple light and chicken's are everywhere. Another QTE segment occurs, this time it's more for running away than fighting. Your group then reaches a temple, you talk with Petra and Gabriel, who tasks you with finding the other guild members. There's apparently another big choice before you're knocked into the now-active Nether portal. The demo ends there, and from the trailer they end up on that floating island.

Sounds like a lot happens for a apparently 15 minute demo.
Well they do cut forward in time, apparently the demo's basically two different parts.
