Really? He "killed" Nick! Nick was such a good guy. He didn't helped him. That's why i slaped that asshole (sorry ..) I'm really happy he's dead... I hope his body will be eaten by walkers...

Same here. I mean, his group was relatively ok,they were in a nice place, everything was just fine, then a stranger kills Matthew for no reason and drew bad people to the ski lodge, getting Walter killed. This is the kind of day that everyone wants to avoid in a ZA
I don't know why, but my heart actually felt broke when Walter died. He was good. I just, for some reason I felt really bad for him. He was … moreliving all good and fine until this group come and then some random people come in and kill him. I felt really bad for him.
Well obviously not. If you tell Walter that Nick is a good guy then he saves Nick. If you tell Walter that Nick is a bad guy, well you know what happens next.
I'm thinking that it might not be a matter of saying one line to convince him, rather than talking him down. I saw that shit going down a MILE away and tried to ease Walter into the mindset that Mathew may be dead ahead of time, and also let Nick do the talking on his own behalf after knowing all of the information.
I don't know why, but my heart actually felt broke when Walter died. He was good. I just, for some reason I felt really bad for him. He was … moreliving all good and fine until this group come and then some random people come in and kill him. I felt really bad for him.
Nick owns up to his mistakes regardless of what that means for his own well-being. For that reason I say Nick is deserving of respect, whereas I thought quite the opposite of Ben.
Yeah pretty much. i saved Pete and hoped that Nick would die, then Pete's all "Look after him" and I'm like "Ugh, ok fine." and when it cam… moree to their confrontation I knew Nick was a good guy, just a fuck-up so I vouched for him to be a good guy. The thing is, Ben was also a good guy and a fuck up so yeah, Nick's totally Ben 2 in that regard. I mean shit, I even forgave Lilly.
The problem is this happens to gay characters all the time. If a gay character shows up, they're often killed to show off how tragic they are. It's called the "celluloid closet." Good writers should be well aware of the trope and that it's tired.
Kudos to Telltale for including gay characters in the game. And I respect Telltale enough to wholly believe they killed the characters for story purposes and not because they are gay. But perception means a lot, and the writers had to know they'd get a collective eye roll from the gay community for immediately killing off their only openly gay characters.
If they came right out and said "Hey did you shoot my gay lover Matt?" then that would be silly. Implying something about a Character is much better than just coming right out and saying it. Telltale wouldn't put as much emphasis on their relationship if it was not a lover. If they said it that would make that all Walter's character is. A homosexual, to the fans he wouldn't be remembered for being the kind leader of the lodge, no he would just be "The gay guy". So at Walt's execution his best friend would be the most important thing on his mind?
I don't mind the idea, but until they say it I'm not going to jump the gun, would be unique writing telltale.
PLLEEEAAASSSEEE MAKE IT HAPPEN!
Until then however, I consider them brothers.
Oh, to go on a bit of a rambling tangent, can we talk about Mathew for a sec? Just how Telltale handled the build up of his death from a writing and design perspective because I think it's worth mentioning.
Ok so by the time you run into Mathew tension is already pretty high and you've just come off of a zombie action scene and are on the run from Carver. Cool, so as a player you're paranoid and there's a guy who's got a gun to you but makes a joke, and you're probably looking for a dramatic scene with talking and stuff to act as a low point to take over after the action scene finished. So you see this unshaven guy in a hoodie, using crude language like "are you guys assholes", who says he lives in a station house and has food. He kind've looks like a delinquent but seems nice enough and then Nick out and shoots him. (I personally rewound that sequence to see if there was a way for me to stop it from happening, there isn't, moving on.) Nick's an asshole and I chewed him out for it.
Anyways then you go into this guy's cabin and see a bedroll, a trunk, a knife and some food. Guy seems to be living alone and has a knife with WM/(MW?), maybe it's a brand name, maybe it's his initials. So you're thinking "Ok, guy's hopefully a bit of a hermit." then you open up his trunk and see more food, and books. For me, seeing books humanizes a guy because he's clearly got an educated enough mind to enjoy reading, so this guy is smart, and probably could have helped us. Also probably likes Dungeons and Dragons, seems like my kind of guy. So now I feel bad, but he's a D&D nerd so he's also probably living alone and he's probably just a nobody that Mark will eat himself over shooting. Like seriously, from initial appearance alone, you could not believe that this guy was with a group unless you knew ahead of time that the ski lodge was inhabited. Me, I thought it was going to be full of zombies and that one guy alone would have a hard time keeping that place safe so that's why he chose to stay in the cabin.
Then I realize that there are people living at the ski lodge, and that obviously means that the cabin was acting as an guard outpost and then Walter starts talking about how they have to "go down and get Mathew" and can't stop talking about how great of a guy he is, and suddenly this guy takes on a life of his own after death after only saying like...what? Four lines? Then not only do I respect this character more, I also get more and more uncomfortable and paranoid in the very warm and nice cabin which, by itself is very welcoming, except for the brooding fear of "It's only a matter of time before he finds out...shit." Oh, and then it turns out that Walter and him are lovers, so now love is on the line and we look like even bigger assholes. Also these were clearly Kenny's friends, so now we're just horrible freaking human beings.
I mean, that was just cool Telltale. Well done. Other games would have had you learn about a character the most while they were alive. I can't think of many that aren't in the fantasy genre that build up a character's importance post-mortem, and even few that do it in such a way that's before everyone else knows they're dead, except maybe certain murder mysteries. Way to use dramatic irony to the fullest thar.
I don't mind the idea, but until they say it I'm not going to jump the gun, would be unique writing telltale.
PLLEEEAAASSSEEE MAKE IT HAPPEN!
Until then however, I consider them brothers.
Exactly, that's really the point. You already fell bad for Matthew because he looked handsome, then the whole cabin section makes you feel worser and worser, because it's so nice and warm and those people look so gentle, welcoming some strangers in their base and telling them to feel like they're at home. Basically, you feel like a piece of shit. Well done TTG.
He was a great character. A shame he had to die, I was hoping for some tension between him and Nick. Everything about was incredibly well-written too.
I also didn't put 2 and 2 together about Matthew until Walter mentioned that he liked to go for walks, then I was like "oh shit...". A bit disappointed you were never able to chew Nick out for murdering someone like a dumbass but what are ya gonna do.
He was a great character. A shame he had to die, I was hoping for some tension between him and Nick. Everything about was incredibly well-… morewritten too.
I also didn't put 2 and 2 together about Matthew until Walter mentioned that he liked to go for walks, then I was like "oh shit...". A bit disappointed you were never able to chew Nick out for murdering someone like a dumbass but what are ya gonna do.
I liked how in the (Next time on) trailer, Kenny was like, walter may not have had to die if you had tried or something of that like, yet he said nothing about Rebeccas husband... but thats just from my choices.
Still. If someone killed my best friend... well I would forgive him. Even if he was an asshole. But I thought Walter would forgive him no ma… moretter what because he seemed like a nice guy. Hell Kenny killed Larry(one of my favorite characters) and then he doesn't help me when Danny St John attacks me or when the door falls on me in the drugstore and I was mad but if he was in trouble I would still save him.
Edit: I forgive him but damn... And if someone killed my lover, friend, or brother I would still forgive him. We are but human. We all make mistakes and Walter only made one in the time that Clementine saw him. Kenny on the other hand...
I liked Walter a lot, even though his appearance was fairly short. I was sad to see him go. He was a smart person, and actually cared. I liked his optimism. And when he saved Nick in my game, well, he just seemed to be one of the nicest people in the entire series. I know he CAN let Nick die, but in my game he was one of the best people around. RIP Walt.
I don't think that it was because he was gay. It was probably due to "All right we've killed off his lover, dealt with the situation either good or badly. Now what? Try to make a branching story of his descent into madness as he tries to function without Matthew?"
"That sounds like extra work. No just shoot him."
Killing off Walter bugged me because it felt like this--
Me: Oh wow, a gay character, maybe he'll stick around for an episode.
Telltale:… more Nah, that'd be too interesting. shot
I mean, it might've just as well turned into a gay Lilly situation but still, that would have been something. Oh well. I like how he was written in the episode and like how he just crumbles so easily as a human being who seems convinced he's got a good head on his shoulders but I always get frustrated when minorities get killed off easily in horror movies. Ah well, at least Lee didn't die until the END of season 1. Maybe I'm just making generalizations but that's how it felt to me anyways.
I like Walter and I thought that there could have been a of potential to his character if Telltale kept him alive. Game wise it would have made it interesting having that tension between him and Nick. Also Walter seems like a trustworthy guy and he knows ho to cook.
I liked Walter, even though the world's gone to shit, you can't lose your humanity. If you do, what makes you so different then those things outside eating people.
I'd just like to point out here that nearly everyone got it. That was some good and subtle writing there on Telltale's part, it seemed overwhelmingly obvious to me that they were lovers, and I was extremely glad that Walter's and Matthews relationship was represented just as any other intimate relationship would be if put in the same writing circumstance.
Good job on not writing it to be ham-fistedly overt about it, that would probably be a misrepresentation what being gay actually should be to society. (By that I mean, that they are simply people who love each other romantically/intimately, like any other couple)

I like him very much. He and Matt were like the only real good guys left in the world. They helped others not asking for any returns.
In my playthrough, he saved Nick. But it's understandable even if he didn't. Because he asked Clem whether Nick was an asshole. If he was a selfish asshole who didn't care about other people. He deserved to die because you just don't know when he would get other good guys killed again!
Telltale has a way of killing the most likable characters right of the bat and make the assholes stick around. I was sympathetic to Doug and he was killed. I think Walter and Matthew were too good for the world they were living in.
In mine I surrenderd and Kenny said "atleast someone tried to help him" wasnt sure if he was refering to Clem or not
I'd hate to have you as a friend/lover/family member

It really was well written.
So you weren't touched by his optimistic speech near the end?
I was sorry that happened. I told Kenny not to shoot so I blame him. I guess he didnt know Carver was such a maniac but still, it was too dangerous.
It was a welcome sentiment, and I always respect a good literary reference, but I still like a bit more time to get to know characters.
And as genuinely kind as the guy was, I was already a bit cynical about him lasting long.
