Why Telltale making their games shorter?

edited March 2014 in The Walking Dead

I played all of Sam & max episodes when it first came out and episodes took around 3-4 hours to beat. Walking dead s1 came out and episodes took 1.5-3 hours to beat. Now with season 2 looks like all episodes are going to take no more than a hour and a half and this has me worried. Don't get me wrong i love the story, setting , characters but length has becoming an issue in my opinion

the episodes are perfect in length don't know what your talking about and if your saying sam and max are longer well sam and max cost more.

  • I think it's just they're way to tell the story. I feel like some of the Walking Dead episodes had to end where they ended, otherwise it would drag it out for too long or end it in a anticlamatic or not-cliffhanger way.

  • You crack me up little buddy

  • why must people thumbs down opinions that aren't theres O_o?

  • It's the way of the internet.
You don't agree with my opinion THUMBS DOWN!!

why must people thumbs down opinions that aren't theres O_o?

  • Because they disagree? It is a form of expressing disagreement, too, not necessarily a "fuck you" message. You do have, of course, simple downvote trolls.

  • How about we ask. "Why telltale making their games better"

Granted, shorter doesn't mean better, but non the less, telltale's episodes are better, so there you have it.

  • Because they're working on 4 games at once.

  • I believe they said they were not starting TftB and GoT until after both their current projects were finished.

Because they're working on 4 games at once.

  • They're not working on GOT but they are working on Tales from the Borderlands.

I believe they said they were not starting TftB and GoT until after both their current projects were finished.

  • I didn't read the OP.

All I'm going to say is "hub areas." Bye now.

  • It's something like 90% of TTG are working on TWAU and TWD while 10% are on the rest. I've been following a lot of TTG people on twitter and some of the people working on TWD have been moved to working on Borderlands.

  • all I'm saying are some of the episodes shorter? Maybe but shorter doesn't mean worse the story is still excellent. but I respect your opinion

  • I'll never understand why people put so much emphasis on Lenght when the Episodes are livin' up to the Expectations, If you told me the Episodes suck or are getting worse Then you have a point.

All That Remains? Smoke and Mirrors? They were not horrible, but don't tell me they are of the best Telltale's produced. A House Divided was a welcome improvement and certainly in areas stronger than moments from the first season, but overall? I would be lying to myself and to this series I love if I said I find S2 overall better.

Besides, some extra length wouldn't hurt, and there are methods of increasing the episode's length in ways that also better the episode itself.

  • Interesting, hope the drain of people isn't too much.

  • I think this is due to them also working with Tales from Borderland, wolf among us, and game of thrones. More projects and less resources???

Hopefully this does not obliterate their full effort, I do not want TWD to be an interactive visual novel.

  • What ? No. Im sayin' that if the Episodes were actually getting worse complaining about the lenght of the Episodes would be more understandable.

  • I'm more worried about TWAU I feel that will get the short end of the stick.

  • Who cares about lenght..

  • I have to agree with that I loved ep.1 of TWAU and I loved ep.2 also but it seemed shorter and didn't have as much polish

  • Length could make the story better and more interesting, depending on Telltale. Not to mention the longer the episode, the more you enjoy playing, because it just entertains you to play for longer, no?

There should be longer episodes in the future.

    Yes, please.

  • Well, look at other episodic things on the market, for example Assassins Creed III tyranny of king washington. One episode costed 20$, and was only an hour and a half long. Then there was The Last of Us: Left behind (better, longer, and cheaper, but still expensive at 15$) Telltale releases for 5$ per episode, so I am perfectly fine with it.

  • The episodes are perfect in length but I do feel like they should be longer only because I love them so much and want to play more before we have to wait all over again for the next episode.

  • They aren't getting shorter necessarily. The only reason it feels shorter is because they took out most of the hubs and lengthy unnecessary puzzle, take those out, and they are about the same length.

So no, it was never an issue, it just feels like an issue.

  • Why did they take them out ? Any ideas ?

  • Probably to make room for something else and more important. I assume that it's for more story branches, but I really can't confirm that.

  • Sam & Max was longer because you had to resolve puzzles, look around for items and return to already explored locations to finish stuff and thangs. It was a much more traditional adventure compared to TWD or TWAU. There wasn't really more story or dialogues, just more gameplay.

  • 4&5 of season 1 looked endless, I loved that feeling!

Because season 1 episodes were pretty long

  • I wish they keep that "traditional adventure" feel instead of making it more like an interactive novel

  • It's not like they are killing anyone, is it? If you care so much about them, then why don't you sue some users for offending your feelings?
