I read about the game on the broken sword forum. People praised it as an outstanding adventure game. So I tried the first episode for free on my ipad despite me hating zombies. I have never seen a zombie film before. But I had played many telltale games before. I liked it, bought it on steam and now I am addicted. Later I read the comics, but I won't watch the TV show (maybe sometime later).
I was introduced to The Walking Dead/Telltale Games on Youtube one day back in early 2013 while randomly looking for new zombie games. I haven't watched the show or read the comics. The Walking Dead game however, caught my interest immediately because I personally love games where you can make choices and affect what happens. Not to mention it's well written story and the cool, comic book-like graphics.
To the franchise as a whole? The TV show. I don't really like the TV show very much, but I was first introduced to the Walking Dead by watching it.
The video game? Kept hearing people say it was a game with a great story. I like great stories in games, even though I'm a bit burnt out on the zombie apocalypse genre. So I took a risk, given how cheap it was. I'm glad I did.
Saw the first episode of season 1 on the PSN store but didn't really care for tying the demo, much less buying it. I was mainly skeptical and hesitant at first because I didn't care for The Walking Dead franchise, but later in 2012 when I saw it winning Game of the Year awards left and right, I was thinking to myself, well it must be a good game if it's receiving such high praise and ratings. I was still a little bit skeptical since I usually don't let GotY awards and ratings sway me in buying games so when the entire game was released at a discount price I said, "why not?" and purchased the whole game... fell in love with it after completing the fist episode, and now I can't get enough.
YouTube.if it wasn't for the annoying orange,I wouldn't have heard of walking dead, smash, etc, anyway,I watched the sow,and because I never read the comics,I never knew the show was bad or anything. I learned about the game from either machinama(I can't spell it)I learned about the game or ign. I wasn't interested until I saw a playthrough on someone's channel.it was either cinnamontoastken, zackscottgames,or someone else I can't remember.
My cousin showed me the last part of episode five the day it came out. Didn't even know the full story and I still cried like a bitch. After that, I played the rest of the episodes in half horror and half intrigue before realising that this game is the most beautiful masterpiece ever created.
hmmm, the show first because i heard the 1st episode was filmed in my home town so i was interested in seeing it when it came on. then since i follow tell tale anyway, i'd pre-ordered the game as soon as i saw it on the site lol
I saw that there was a game called The Walking Dead on iOS, when I went into the app store one day (I'm always on there checking to see if there are any decent games). The first episode of season 1 was free, so, I bought it and ever since then I haven't looked back. Not long after I started watching the TV series (which I love). Haven't really read the comics, just the first issue. I may consider buying them at some stage.
Started with the show, and I had no intentions of ever trying this game out until my parents bought it for me thinking I would like it because I loved the show. Turns out I love the game more than the show now, then I moved on to the comics.
To be honest, and you might get this a lot, not really. Because they're bulky and slow and i'm small and fast. So i guess that if i'm pretty fast, i shouldn't have THAT many problems.
I remember when my older siblings started watching it and I started peeking around corners to see what it's like since I wasn't old enough back then and they over protective, but by Season 2 of the show I started watching it a lot more, and when I learned about Telltale's, I tried the demo, loved, got the disc version, and got hooked ever since.
I can't actually remember. I think, being a long time fan of zombie games i got fed up of the lack of choice on the 360 for serious, good story telling zombie games so i did a quick google search. TWD came up but at the time i just viewed screen shots and seeing as it was a point and click game i thought it would suck so i never bothered with it. About a month later i noticed it was free (ep 1) on XBL so i downloaded it, i loved it immediately and downloaded the whole season (at this point season one had been out for a while, but season 2 wasn't confirmed yet). Iv'e enjoyed it ever since and im now the proud owner of the season pass for both TWD season 2 and TWAU. The game has now gotten me into the comics and iv'e ordered the compendium volume 1. Im going to get the tv show DVD'S soon aswell to see what it's like. (Iv'e seen a few snippets here and there of the tv show and didn't really like it, but then again i thought that about the screenshots of TWD by telltale, so im gonna order a boxset and give it a proper chance)
Heard that there was a game version of The Walking Dead, a series I had only vaguely heard of but was apparently something I'd enjoy, according to my friends who had played it.
long-time Telltale fan, I've played their games for quite a long time and when I found out they were hitting it big with The Walking Dead I decided to give it a shot. Big fan ever since. And I've not even watched one episode of the show.
I started reading the comics when I was about seventeen (twenty-one, now) and have loved it since. I was a bit 'meh' about the show at first, but then I got into it. One day while I was perusing Steam, I happened across the Walking Dead page and impulse bought the season pass before the first season came out.
Began with the TV show & liked it. Then saw the TT game listed on the App Store. Was reluctant to buy a game that was ...gasp!... $4.99 USD (this was before first episode was offered for free) however my daughter convinced me that it was a great game because she played it on XBox. I was hooked within 30 seconds after starting game!
But seriously it was Pewdiepie's let's play. Here in Egypt our television channels don't host the walking dead tv show. Nor did we have walking dead comics sold here. So I found out about the walking dead universe through telltale's game, but I didn't find out about that until I watched Pewdiepie play it.
Yogscast2 aka Yogscast Hannah... I saw the first episode uploaded by her, I hesitated to click it because I wasn't a fan of zombies much at the time, but I'm so glad I ended up watching it. Bought the game soon after I watched a few chapters of episode one. This game is so amazing.
Being an avid horror fan, I saw the first season of TWD and rented it. Fell in love with it. My fascination of the series grew as season two went on, getting me to read the comics.
Then the game came out, which was obviously my favorite medium. As the season progressed, I grew less and less fond with the TV show as well as the comics. I started to notice glaring flaws to the other mediums when compared to the game, especially the writing of the comics.
To this day, I love the game, but not a fan of the TV show anymore, and I absolutely hate the comics. The game is pretty much the only thing holding me onto this franchise now.
I feel the same way. I watched a few episodes of the show before the game ever came out, I really liked them. Then I played the game and thought that the show was nothing compared to the game, making me separate myself from the show.
Bored one night when I went to a Redbox.

I watched the show first and then read the comics. I dont remember exactly but I read or heard somewhere that they were making a game of The Walking Dead and I was excited to see what they would do with it. What we got was nothing I expected. I was thinking something more like Resident Evil, but I am glad at the way it turned out. Its a unique experience.
I started watching the tv show first & fell in love with it. Then when I heard there was a game that was a prequel to the comic I was sort of skeptical since I've never been a fan of point & click games. But, I figured I'd give the demo of the first episode a shot. After playing it I had to know what happened next since from just the demo I was already invested in Lee as a character. So, I bought the first episode & got hooked in line & sinker. During the long wait for season 2 I started to read the comic after my friend had been telling me for ages that it was better than the tv show. And, I actually agree with her after reading all the current issues. xD I love the game the most, the comic second, and the show comes in last place for me personally. :P
For me the TV show was the first thing I watched (I love post-apocalypse genres) and then I randomly stumbled upon TheRadBrad and saw a Walking Dead Game playthrough and watched it. I was hooked and bought the game (Episode 3 was released at that time). I have never read the comics because I really am not a comic guy but the Telltale game is by far superior to the TV show. Season 1 of the TV show was pretty good but it went down hill since then and I am nowhere near as emotionally invested in the TV show compared to the game.
Actually, me too. I just saw he made couple of videos about it and I was really corious about the game. It was amazing, so I played it myself later on. Then I just got addicted to the game.
I was just minding my own business, on vacation - camping and doing some light hunting for fun with my uncle. Heard a rustling sound in the woods. When I went to investigate, I saw a woman hunched over some guy on the ground. Then I saw she was eating his insides, turned, saw me and came at me!
She had the big hole right in her stomach you could see straight through. I shot twice and it didn't slow her down at all! A third shot and got her in the head and she went down. I ran back to the campsite and never said anything. Not like anyone would believe me right? They might blame me! Oh god what have I done! WHAT HAVE I DONE!
And that's how I was introduced to the Walking Dea- oh wait you mean the fictional series?
Um.... started with watching the TV show. Then moved to the game, and read a few of the comic books as well.

Because we're a bunch of over-patriotic cocky country proud people, and as such we instead mostly host in our television poorly done Arabic shows and movies that look like school projects.(because that's what the people here like more and gets more revenue to channels here I guess)
We're sorta like America, except we have nothing worth bragging about(except maybe ancient history)

I didnt like it at first when I saw pewdiepie play it. I came back to it after a while and loved how the story went.
It's just that people think he is too childish and yells a lot. I've watched his videos for some time, but I couldn't stand it.
I saw FrankieonPC playing TWAU and then my friend told me: "Look, this is a game made by the same company who made The Wolf Among Us"

Indeed. He is annoying as hell.

I was recommended by a friend. At first I thought this game would be crap as hell but how wrong was I. Glad I played it.

A friend introduced me to the show during the pilot season. Decided to try the game out after watching the Zero Punctuation review for it.
My friend told meh I would like it and I was like "naaaah" but then it won GOTY and I decided 2 try it, now its my favorite game ever.

Best impulse buy I have ever made.

Netflix after Season 2 of the show came out. What else?
